i have this nintendo wifi USB connector it installs all the way to the end then it says please insert the connector in the usb slot its clearly in there but still nothing happens

The connector for the DS, I'm guessing? Try updating the software if it isn't the latest version. You also need to be running Windows XP or Vista. If you have 7, Compatibility Mode should help.

dude i had the exact same trouble & i found a guide but unfortunately i didn't save it...

iirc i think you install it then when the installation is complete just run the install again or something - it's a bit glitchy but once it's installs it works well - try the double install dude (sounds weird i know but it was something like that i had to do)

EDIT

found this...

i had the same problem so i emailed nintendo and this is what they sent me

Hello and thank you for contacting Nintendo,

Please note that the problem you describe usually occurs when Internet
Connection Sharing is already on when trying to install the Nintendo
USB Wi-Fi Connector software. You may want to disable the Internet
Connection Sharing, then reload the Nintendo USB Wi-Fi Connection software
while leaving the Nintendo USB Wi-Fi Connector plugged into the USB port
on your computer.

To disable Internet Connection Sharing, Click Start (at the lower left
corner of your screen), click Control Panel, then click Network and
Internet Connections. One of the network icons should say something like
Internet Connection Sharing enabled (I don't remember the exact words).
RIght click on that icon and select Properties. Highlight Internet
Protocol (TCP/IP) and click on the Advanced tab. Uncheck the Share
Internet Connection box, and Apply that change. Reinstall the Nintendo USB
Wi-Fi Connector software. It should install without any problems and it
will automatically re-enable Internet Connection Sharing as part of the
software setup process. This time, leave it on.

After successfully installing the software, turn on your Nintendo DS.
Go to the Nintendo WFC Settings page, tap Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection
Setup, then tap Connect to your Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector. It will
test the connection and your Nintendo DS will be recognized by your
computer. On the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection utility, highlight your Nintendo
DS and click allow.

If the above doesn't correct the problem, you may need to completely
uninstall the Nintendo USB Wi-Fi Connector software and then reinstall
it. The following steps will result in a "clean" install:

Note: If your network is set up where one computer with a modem is
being used by other computers to access the internet, the USB connector
should be installed on the computer with the modem.

First of all, check to see if there might be an IP Address conflict
between the router and the USB connector.

1. Verify your Default Gateway IP by clicking on Start, then Run, and
then typing CMD and clicking OK. If the Default Gateway is either
192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1, you will need to find the IP Address in your
router settings and change it to 192.168.2.1.

Important! If any other devices utilize the router, the may need to
update the IP Address on each of these devices to match the one you've
entered on the router.

2. If the IP Address is changed, power down your computer and
disconnect the USB connector. Being sure to leave the connector disconnected,
then power on the computer and go through the Nintendo USB Wi-Fi
Connector software installation process.

If the IP Address does not need to be changed, or if the installation
fails;

• Check Local Area Connections to determine what the Internet
Connection Sharing (ICS) options are set to. Which option is correct will depend
on how your computer is set up.

To access the Local Area Connections screen, open the Control Panel and
click on the Network Connections option. Unless indicated otherwise,
make sure the USB connector is connected to the computer throughout these
steps.

1. Adjust the ICS options as needed:

One Local Area Network is listed other than the USB Connector
Right click on that connection, select Properties, and then the
Advanced tab.

If the ICS options are enabled, uncheck all boxes under the ICS area to
disable them.

If the ICS options are disabled, check all boxes under the ICS area to
enable them.

Two or more Local Area Networks are listed other than the USB Connector
One of these should be a Network Card. Right click on this connection,
select Properties, and then the Advanced tab.

If you are getting an Internet Connection Sharing error, the ICS
settings will most likely be enabled. Uncheck all boxes under the ICS area to
disable them.

2. Uninstall the USB connector through the Device Manager.

- Make sure you have the USB Connector plugged into your computer.
- Go to 'Start', and select Control Panel.
- Open 'System', and under the 'Hardware' tab choose 'Device Manager'
- Next to 'Network Adapters', click the '+' to expand the list.
- If the Nintendo USB Connector is in the list, right-click it and
choose 'Uninstall.'
- At this point, remove the USB connector.

3. Perform the DEVREMOV process.

- Make sure you have the USB Connector plugged into your computer.
- Enter 'My Computer' and right click on the CD drive containing the
Nintendo Wi-Fi connection Installation CD, and choose 'Explore.'
- Open 'NintendoWFCReg'/'SoftAP.' and double-click the DEVREMOV.exe
application.

During the course of running the DEVREMOV program, you will see three
windows pop up successively.

The first will have a bunch of question marks. Click 'Yes.'
The second will have a picture of wires and lights moving on it while
the DEVREMOV utility uninstalls the internet connection sharing for the
USB Adapter. This will disappear on its own.
The third will also have a bunch of question marks on it. Just click
'ok.'

4. Check the Programs list and, if the 'Uninstall' option for the
connector is there, run this process.

- Go to 'Start', and select Programs.
- If the Nintendo USB Wi-Fi Connector is listed, run the uninstall
program to remove it.

5. Check Add/Remove Software on computer and, if listed, remove the USB
connector.

- Go to 'Start', and select Control Panel.
- Open 'Add/Remove Programs.'
- If listed, select the Nintendo Wi-Fi connector from the list, and
click 'Remove.'
- Follow the prompts to uninstall the program.

6. Power down your computer, disconnect the USB connector ,and remove
the installation CD. Being sure to leave the connector disconnected,
then power on the computer.

Once the computer is on, plug the connector into the USB port.

- If Windows XP does not detect the connector as a new device and
prompts you to install it, all of the components have not been removed from
the computer. Complete steps 2 through 5 again.

- If Windows XP does detect the connector as a new device, remove the
connector from the USB port and go through the installation process
again as outlined in the Nintendo USB Wi-Fi Connector Instruction manual.

setup, To better assist you with this matter, please call us at

I'm having the same problem and I'm trying to follow the instructions you posted, siburke939, but I can't disable Internet Connection Sharing. I can't even find where to go. I'm running Vista and I've gotten about this far:

Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network and Sharing Center

I don't really know where to go from here, but if I click Internet Options an Internet Properties window opens and there is an Advanced tab, but nothing under it says anything about Internet Connection Sharing.

i need to connect but my internet's wpa, so i was thinking about getting a usb connecter. i use a mac however, so is there anyway at all these usb's can connect to a mac? thanks.
