Ash keeps making new friends, and in the same episodes they say their final goodbyes. Don't have internet or mobile phones in their world or what? They have highly advanced PokéBalls, PokéDex, teleporation technology...and they don't have facebook? Or maybe, PokéBook :p

It's stupid that he keeps no contact of his new friends. :/

Apart from a few bad eggs, the pokemon world seems to be a mostly utopian society.

So of course there is no facebook/twitter/pokemon anime forum.

It's obvious that Ash has a Battle Recorder that we never see, and then posts his battles to Youtube through the nearest internet cafe, so yes, the Internet does exist in the Pokemon world, we just don't see anyone use it because Ash is almost always outdoors.
 
I think he keeps contact with many past friends.

We just don't see so that you people won't think those characters are still ~*relevant*~.
 
He doesn't keep in contact with past friends. I don't know why people think Ash is secretly having these phone calls with Misty or anyone else off-screen.
 
We've seen that Ash is fairly incompetent with technology, so I think it's safe to assume that he doesn't update his facebook status regularly nor does he know how to activate his gmail account. I don't want to believe that he's completely out of touch with his old friends though, since he's a very socially oriented person. But I understand that the more engaged you are with your activities, the harder it is to keep in contact with old friends since they seem less and less relevant to your current life...

Uh...where was I going with this?

He probably calls them every once in a while if he remembers (I'm sure that their pokedexes have SOME sort of contact storing feature)...which might not be often XP

I follow Ash on Twitter...OMFG, he's hilarious....you guys should follow him too...When he's not training, he tweets...sometimes...LOL
 
Well, do be fair and defend Ash, not a lot of time has obviously passed between the time he last saw Misty, May, Max, Dawn, Brock, etc. seeing as he is still 10! I'm pretty sure they have internet in that world, but since Ash travels all the time, we never see it. Although I do find it strange that they have all of these futuristic technologies like Pokeballs and stuff and they don't have cell phones.. Although they do have the Pokegear that has a phone. That seems like the closest thing to a cell phone they have. so really, its strange parents don't get their kids these before they set out to travel.

That really made me lol! Imagine seeing that being posted on Facebook! and you're right about Trip, he definitely doesn't seem like the scrapbooking kind of guy, so it would seem more probably he would post the pictures somewhere!

Guys, who the hell needs the internet when you have Pidgey Mail?

Honestly though, I assume he does keep in touch with people off-screen. For example, we see him talk to Delia and Oak sometimes. Wouldn't surprise if say, one time Ash phones Oak, Tracey answers while Oak is in the toilet and the two have a chat reminiscing about the Orange Islands, while Tracey fondly recalls the days when he got significant screen time. It's just, we don't care about that stuff so it isn't shown.
 
Facebook is a corporation, a product, and a Web site, NOT a technology, or something interchangeable with the word 'Internet'.

When the anime first started, you hardly ever saw a realistic depiction of the WWW in fictional media. But the internet IS depicted in Pokemon in a way. e.g, in the prologue of the third movie with Spencer Hale's computer.
