The forums are set to be upgraded to vB4 in the coming months. We have a team already working on getting the bugs out to smooth out the transition.

That said, it has come from higher up that the Clubs Forum (this one) will be closed in favor of the Social Group system. It is important that users begin to familiarize themselves with the current system and from this point on, no new Club threads will be made.

Now, if you have any complaints about the Social Groups, feel free to list them here in detail so we can better make Groups more user friendly. Excluding the fact that they are not currently shown on the main page (that is fixed in the upgrade). Please, only real complaints. Simply not liking Social Groups is not a good enough reason. This process will move forward.

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to ask. I (or the Administration Staff) will try to answer your questions to the best of our abilities.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Re: IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! (Please read.)

Will the forums have to be closed for an amount of time to be upgraded?

Re: IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! (Please read.)

Possibly, but this thread is about Clubs/Social Groups, not the upgrade itself.

Re: IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! (Please read.)

Oh, ok. Sorry about that.

Re: IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! (Please read.)

I was wondering whether these Social Groups could have the options of getting threads closed. Rather than deleted.

Re: IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! (Please read.)

Yeah, even though all these threads will be closed, will the entire forum be deleted as well?

Re: IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! (Please read.)

Possibly make them more accessible? I know they're up at the top, but maybe put a redirect forum to the main social groups page in place of the club forum?

And maybe have "recent topics" on the main Social groups page. Speaking of topics, moving the threads in here to their respective social groups may be a good idea.

This suggestion goes out more to the people posting in the club threads: make a group and post a link to it and if possible edit it into the top. Make people know what group to go to, and also make sure people know there already is a replacement social group. :3

Re: IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! (Please read.)

i dont ssupport the idea 1 reason is due tot he fact that the sigs dont show in social groups and usually certain social groups are harder to find

I honestly don't know why you will want to show your sig in Social Groups anyway?
and for searching you can simply go and type it in the search bar.

The forum and its contents will be fully archived. You'll still be able to access the forum to view old material.

Social Groups will be significantly more accessible in vB4. A few examples of how we're doing that are...
  • You can see an example of the tab bar that's being added in vB4 here in this example screenshot from the vBulletin website. It's the line with the links to "Site", "Forum", "Community", "Blogs", "Settings". We'll be having a tab there linking directly to the social groups, giving them the same level of prominence as the links to Bulbapedia, Bulbanews, etc, that we'll also be having up there.
  • We used to have here an addon which allowed us to put your social groups on the forum home page. While we had to remove that ages back due to server issues, now that those have been all solved, we'll be bringing that functionality back with vB4. We're currently debating if they should go at the top of the forum list, or at the bottom. It'll display the 5 most recently updated groups that you're a member of, and have a link to take you directly to you full list of groups that you're a member of.
  • The notifications menu in vB4 (which you can see in the screenshot above in the top right) will display notifications for everything related to the social groups that you're a member of, including new posts, and new member requests for those who are group leaders.

And maybe have "recent topics" on the main Social groups page.
Glad to say that's a functionality already included in the base vB4 package, so you most certainly willhave that.

Speaking of topics, moving the threads in here to their respective social groups may be a good idea.
We are currently investigating an addon which should allow us to do exactly that.

If we can find a way to give people the ability to post sigs in there, we'll most certainly add it. Currently it's not possible in software to my knowledge.

We will be having some members of staff specifically looking over the social groups to make sure everything is properly categorised. In general though, to find any social group (that you're not already a member of), you'd just be able to enter keywords into a search box, same as you'd do now if you were searching groups or searching for a club thread on the forums.

Re: IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! (Please read.)

Personally I prefer no Signatures in Social Groups.

Also, this is completely unnecessary, and maybe I'm the only one that cares, but coming up with a name for these Clubs/Social Groups other than Social Groups... would be neat. Social Groups is a bit simple. This may confuse people, but personally, I think it'd be neat to call them ''Gyms''.

And, I would suggest a thread encouraging Members to form and police communities and develop these communities into something other than a personal spam folder. Something a long of the lines of ''Suggestions on how to start an SG''. I feel that this should include notes advising Members to look for a SG before of XTopic starting XTopic, and just general information, how to's and the like.

Do we have Mods for these SG's, or will the Club Forum Mods be in charge of SG's? If not, I think there should be some/a governing body.

Edit: Thank you!

A thread about how to form and police these social group communities is a good idea. We'll certainly do something like that up.

The current club forum moderators will be taking charge of the social groups, and we'll likely add one or two people to their ranks.

Re: IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! (Please read.)

I had a question, will it be possible in VB4 to Lock threads instead of deleting them in Social Groups?

Is that the VB displayed here http://www.janime.eu/forum.php? Because if it is, this site will look really good.

Re: IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! (Please read.)

Any possible timeframe this change is happening? I know you guys said, "in the coming months," but any idea how soon specifically?

Similar to that, yes.

Unfortunately I don't have a timeframe just yet. We're still working on some minor issues that need fixed before the change.

Re: IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! (Please read.)

Oh man my question keeps getting missed!
I have another one as well:
1) Will it be possible in VB4 to Lock threads instead of deleting them in Social Groups?
2) Archaic mentioned that the Forums will be Archived and we'll still be able to access it. So does this mean that all the threads will be deleted off the face of the forum, the post counts will be lost and similar threads will come up in the new one? OR
The stuff will be Archived so your post count stays and so does the material and everything stays?

Re: IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! (Please read.)

I don't know about locking threads yet.

The clubs getting archived will just prevent people from posting in them. Post count don't count here anyway so it won't be affected.

I misunderstood the archiving part. I thought the whole of BMGF was going to be archived. Thanks anyways.
Though if you've not added the locking can it be possible to add it?

Re: IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! (Please read.)

I will look into the locking thing.

When we change over, the Clubs forum will be archived, not the entire site.
