Non-Gen V Pokemon to be absent from Isshu

Pokemon Gen V appears to be taking notes from Gen III. The official site apparently makes note that Pokemon of Kanto and Johto, etc, are for the most part, absent from Isshu (Gen V).

Hiun City is down at the bottom. It's a business-oriented city.

The official site makes particular note of the area in the middle, which it describes as "an area with a strange external appearance."

It also notes that the Pokemon you found in Kanto, Jouto and the other areas of past Pokemon games are, for the most part, absent from Isshu.

I guess this suggests we're going to see a higher number of new Pokemon. Though it also seems that we'll be able to trade our favourite Pokemon from Gen IV titles from the start, unlike Gen III. Based on the screenshots and information released regarding Zorua and Zoroark, and the methods of obtaining them.

Yes, this is something we're aware off and have probably discussed in all the other threads.

Though, it does bring to question their earlier comments about this feeling more like RBY when they've obviously pulled another Hoenn in the process. But the fans don't seem to mind this time around.

I couldn't find a discussion thread regarding this, and it's surprising to hear that everyone is ok with Gamefreak taking this road, given the uproar towards Gen III. I suppose that has more to do with seemingly being able to trade from the start, from our Gen IV games.

To be honest, I think most people aren't taking as much issue with it this time for two reasons:

1. I know a lot of people REALLY didn't like the designs of the Gen 3 pokemon (I'm not a huge fan of them myself), and didn't like being forced to go through the games with pokemon they disliked. However, there seems to be a pretty positive response towards the designs of the Gen V pokemon we've seen so far.

2. Hoenn had absolutely NO backwards compatibility with Kanto and Johto, due to being on an incompatible console. However, Black and White will be released on the DS, the same as DPPt and HGSS. Therefore, players have the option to bring over pokemon from previous generations, instead of basically being told "Did you want to have a Fearow on your team? Sorry, pal, you're SOL, better make due with Swellow!"

People pretty much ignored this from what I saw because they immediatley remembered that we have backwards compatibility and went on laughing at Gen III. Personally, I'm saddened because this pretty much confirms I can't get through the game with my usuals, though I'm sure that after this gen I'll have found someone to replace Nidoking. But oh well. If I really hate the choices I'm given that much, there's always trading. But so far, I like the new pokemon and I cannot wait to test them on my team.

So this means that Pokemon like Zubat, Geodude and Tentacool will be absent, and that there will be Isshu counterparts to them?

They didn't say it was a complete fresh start.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: There needs to be a second region in these games so that a substantial part of the old Pokémon can be available without relying on Generation IV. I don't know about you, but I'm worried that the Transmitting Machine may only work over wireless communication, in which case most of us here will need to get a second system to take advantage of it (although it is always possible to leech on a Wi-Fi friend who already has two systems).

Regardless of how the Transmitting Machine is going to turn out, it would be a pity if Black and White had a smaller pool of catchable Pokémon than the Generation IV games. Of course, those games employed the Swarm system and its many cumbersome variations, but I don't think that Isshu should be like Sinnoh and Johto even if the changes only take effect after the main quest is over. If it is meant to be a faraway country, Game Freak should live up to those words and not resort to making the change in scenery a cosmetic one.

Hence the need in a second region based in Japan, beyond the fact that Isshu is just too small to contain a sufficiently long story.

They'll probably pull an Emerald and add new areas with more old Pokémon in the third version.

I agree that there should be another region for this. From what I gather, the transmitting machine only does one Pokemon at a time which would make it quite cumbersome, and there's a limit on what you can expect us to find through Pokeradar and swarms alone.

Besides, Isshu itself is making out to be quite a small region, and if I recall, they emphasized Hiun as a port town.

And what should we be doing for the next two years, if not three? There are 493 "old" Pokémon; how many of them should we have to transfer from Generation IV? Diamond and Pearl only required 90 from the GBA games.

and there's a limit on what you can expect us to find through Pokeradar and swarms alone.
Not to mention that those things would render the statement about old Pokémon being absent quite null. The correct word would be "rare".

Precisely.

I don't think there will be a 2nd region, if it is then it will be something like the Sevii islands, and I don't think we have seen all of Isshu yet. Plus I bet they will be absent until we get the Nat dex, at which point, "Oh there is a bunch of wild XXX I wonder what they are doing here in Isshu?"

It could also, like with Gen III, be the proof of RS remakes...

It's kind of funny but, barring Platinum, I actually believe DP has less old Pokemon in the Regional Dex than RSE. :P

Anyway, I support this. I loved what Gen III did, the only problem was there was no way to get the old ones without FR/LG/Colosseum etc. But now, with backwards compatibility and online trading, it's really not an issue it seems like. I hope we can catch a lot of the old Pokemon through post-game like others have said without using cumbersome methods.

I hope there's enough old Pokemon returning to give us a decent sized Regional Dex though (at least 250...please?). If we've got the rumored 150 new ones, 100 old ones brought in from all the different regions is a small selection of are old pals. I hope they ditch some of the recurring Pokemon and instead bring back some Pokemon with limited Regional Dex appearances, mainly the 2nd and 3rd Gen Pokemon who so far only have appeared naturally in their own region.

Somehow this news completely missed my notice. Oh well. To be honest, back in RSE the lack of old Pokemon was more of a minor annoyance than a huge flaw to me anyways. Plus as you've all mentioned the problem is lessened thanks to backwards compatibility. So as long as the rest of Gen V isn't complete crap, which to be fair there aren't any Gen 5 pokemon that outright bother me so far, and they at least have Machop and Geodude (I don't care if they're in every game, I'd miss them regardless) then I'm good.

A WORLD WITHOUT MAGIKARP!!!!!!!!!!! NOOO!!!!!!!!

Same goes for Zubat and Geodude. But Especially Magikarp. Tentacool I despise forever but still....

I mean it would be nice to stop being bothered but their annoyance is simply nostalgic and them being replaced will really frustrate me.

Even though they did say Isshu was far from the other regions, aren't certain species of animals in the real world found on every distant continent but Antarctica?

I've heard talk about trading with Gen 4, how would that work if the games didn't have Gen 5 pokemon in that? Would it be like Pal Park or something?
