Not sure of my title, but here's a story. (Fiction, non-video-game.)

Here's the prologue to something I've started to write (Updates will come as I write the story.) I haven't titled it yet, but then and again, I rarely title my work with anything more than something to identify it to myself alone. It's my first foray into an extended fiction story in almost 2 years, but I think it's also the most promising of my works. Enjoy.

Prologue

“As we are plunged into this terrible darkness…I don’t know what the future holds for us as humans. Cites are falling, and at the same time new ones are rising, but I fear it will not be nearly fast enough. The destruction we have unleashed is now beyond our control or the control of anything we know of. No weapon stops this one, no shield can block it. It releases a poison which goes through the Earth and through life as well, causing life itself to break down and become defective.

This journal probably won’t live on if this city is destroyed like the others…I doubt that the thoughts recorded inside will be there for the next generation to view. This war has wrecked anyone and everyone on the planet, involved or not. If only it could end…But it probably won’t. Everything’s falling apart now. It’s only a matter of time until the End.
I expect a siren any moment now, the signal to get to a shelter for protection. But there is no protection…No city, after an attack, has survived. And few humans in the city survive afterwards. That’s just an illusion to calm a simple mind, but it’s worked for now. The weapons utilized are unstoppable…The only way to destroy them is to seal them away under countless tons of rock. Perhaps that will be Man’s last gift to all life on this planet, if we ever come to our senses.

But it’s doubtful we will. The governments are ineffective and the anarchists’ philosophies are beginning to take hold in daily society. If they gain control, I fear that all public systems will be swiftly shut down and our last hope for survival destroyed. I can’t stop them, all I can do is wait and watch, think and record. There are shots being fired almost constantly outside; my home is the safest place to be, and even one’s home isn’t very safe.

A news bulletin should come on shortly. I’ll have to flip to another page to and write a record of what’s reported today. This will probably be the only insightful essay in the book, but that’s fine. The writer doesn’t matter, the reader does. I’m glad I could have my chance to speak.

This is great. Your technique is superb, and I think I can sense the emergance of a great plot within this. I can't wait to read more of this. The multiple opening's you've provided have stumped me, and will probably all other readers, for predicting what will happen next, but the clues make sure we know it will be climatic. Excellent work.
