Not being able to change names of traded

Is there any reason for this? I thought most pokemon that get traded were caught to be traded. I've notplayed past gold/silver yet, but I thought that it was usually like, you would catch someone a vulpix in silver and trade it for their Growlyth in gold. As well as the starters, if you know of someone who just got it or is going to reset. Or have 2 consols and both versions, and do it yourself (nobody else I know plays it).

Just send the females, that way you can make eggs that you can name yourself.

Change the name before trading.

I was thinking more if you decide to change after trading and starting a new game in the one you traded from.
