Now that we're less than two months out, I think I its appropriate to ask which versions you are getting and why! It might help others who are undecided to make his or her mind!
I am getting both! This is the first generation in which I have done it but I think it will be worth the investment!
Often by selecting one version I would be satified enough since the other version is essentially the same with different pokemon, however, with this upcoming generation they are really playing up the differences. GF started to do that with ORAS but essentially wherever Team Magma was, team Aqua would be there in Sapphire. Besides Groudon. Groudon. Not much else needs to be said. XD
While I like Solgaleo's design better, I believe that Lunalaa has a more interesting type combination (despite the 4x weakness to both ghost and dark type moves, but I'm not going there...)
So post away!
Here is what the official website has to say about the principal differences:
The creatures* available in Pokemon Sun
Solgaleo
Psychic/Steel @ Full Metal Body
New move --> Sunsteel Strike
The legendary of Sun. His new ability prevents stat reduction. It isn't known about his new form but they might stay the same.
My comments: while the typing is philosophically interesting, and his design is majestic and powerful he is definitely the safer option of the two legendaries in battle. Even if his ability really isn't new or probably justa souped-up legendary white metagross, he is still vulnerable to Dark, Ghost, Ground, and Fire types, all of which will be very common. His signature move looks cool, but we'll see.
Passimian
Fighting type @ Reciever
No new moves revealed
Reciever copies a fainted ally's ability in battle.
My thoughts: It is pretty abusive if can get the right moveset coupled with the right ability. Will shake up the VGC Doubles, but would probably be less useful in single battles as he has no allies to copy abilities.Perhaps send out a ninjask with him, let the ninjask faint at Passimian, but then who would be the greater threat then, and more likely to take advantage of its speed boost? Passimian would be a walking target. He doesn't appear to have great bulk, either, however looks can be deceiving. Passimian is definitely the risker option.
Lyncanroc Midday Form
Rock type @ Keen Eye/Sand Rush
New Move-->Accelerock
Comments: This appears to be the sweeper and active aggressive evolution of Rockruff. I don't expect this form to carry the same defense stat as Aggron, but I do believe it won't need that much bulk if it has high enough attack and speed stat. His new ability is basically a rock type quick attack, so that is useful for taking out something like Talonflame quickly. This guy in a sandstorm with Sand Rush should be fearsome.
UB-02: Absorbtion
The hulking Ultra beast with a super sharp mosquito proboscis-sword-thing (or what appears to be) in Pokemon Sun.
The creatures* exclusive to Pokemon Moon
Lunalaa @ Shadow Shield
Psychic/Ghost
New move ---> Moongeist Beam
Lunalaa - the bat-like skeletal emissary of the moon is the mascot for the aptly named Pokemon moon. It has the ability shadow shield which is very useful because it lowers damage from moves when its at full HP. Its new move is just like Solgaleo's sunsteel strike. It inflicts damage, ignoring the taget's ability.
The type of moongeist beam is unknown but as shown in Lunalaa's show video, it was shown to be supereffective against a Gengar: which places it as either a psychic, ghost, or dark type move. Considering that Lunalaa is a psychic/ghost that we can logically say that it isn't a dark type move. By the name "geist" is almost equivalent to "ghiest" or "ghast" so ghost.
Comments: Don't get me wrong; Lunalaa will be an offensive as well as defensive beast. It has its ability and if it gets the move moonlight, can continue to activate more frequently than anyone other than the attacker would want. However, despite all of those things going for it, its typing is horrible: Psychic/Ghost, while cool, has two glaring and common 4x weaknesses to dark and ghost type moves. It does have two immunities: normal and fighting, but neither would be particularly useful anyway granted its ability. If you want Lunalaa to glisten in the moon light do take care to rid your opponent's ghost and dark type pokemon and ghost- and dark- type move carriers first.
Oranguru
Normal/Psychic @ Telepathy
Special move --> Instruct
Instruct allows an ally in a double battle to use a move again. For instance if you use in on a Gyarados who just used waterfall, he will be able to use it again.
Comments: Since Oranguru seems to be a bit bulker than Passimian but with a tricky type combination. It seems like it can be a bit more abusive esepecially if you have a rampaging Garchomp who uses earthquake and deals, say, 60% damage to an opponent, and then the opponent say OHKOs it with an ice beam, well with Oranguru, Garchomp will have that problem no more. Unless Oranguru can be properly dealt with (after all he does seem to be bulkier than Passimian). Oranguru seems to be the safer option.
Lycanroc Midnight Form
Rock @ Keen Eye/Vital Spirit
No new moves revealed
Comments: This variant of Lycanroc takes a passive-aggressive approach to battling. His primary weapon is the Counter move and reacting rather than actively battling. Not recommended for someone who is impatient and wants to sweep everything away. We'll see how his defenses are because he bases his moveset around Counter. If he is defensive, however, he would have to trade the speed and perhaps his att stat of his midday form for HP and Def.
UB-02 - Beautty
The buglike beauty queen of Pokemon Moon. Not much is known about it.
In conclusion I think the pokemon in sun are more actively agressive and in moon they are more passive/defensive. If your play style reflects a bunch of sweepers, go right in glaring radiantly like a sun with your copy of Pokemon Sun. However, if you don't like the spotlight too much and want to take a more defensive/stalling strategy, go right ahead in the mysterious world of Pokemon Moon.
*I use creatures because it isn't proven that the UB monsters are pokemon. In fact, I think the site states they are not. However, different UB monsters do appear so I included them anyway.

Here is what the official website has to say about the principal differences:
A thorough analysis of the secrets of the two different worlds of Pokémon Sun andPokémon Moon!
Some of the Pokémon that appear in Pokémon Sunand Pokémon Moon are different. What's more, there’s a difference in the way time is set in the two games.
Except for a few scenes, time in Pokémon Sun andPokémon Moon is tied to the actual time. Pokémon Sun operates on the same time as your Nintendo 3DS system, but time in the world of Pokémon Moonis shifted by 12 hours.
Some of the Pokémon that appear in Pokémon Sunand Pokémon Moon are different—including Solgaleo and Lunala, which hold the key to the story. It seems that some of the Pokémon that appear as Totem Pokémon in the trials are also different.
My thoughts: Interesting. It has been confirmed that as a matter of balancing they have revealed Alolan Raticate (dark/normal) will be the totem for Pokemon Moon and Gumshoos (normal) be the the totem for sun, so both are about equal in strength but have slightly differing strategies. Otherwise, they seem to be the same difficulty. It would be interesting to see the time transition, however as it will provide different aesthetics. If you like the mysteries of the night, go for Moon. If you are more interested in the bright sunny world and all of its colors go for the day, well, go for that instead.
