Sorry if this has already been addressed in another thread, I don't really keep up with games.

Anyways, now that Meowth/Chris is no longer interested in Pokemon, who's going to get all the sprites, trainer data, dex entries, etc. that he used to provide with each new game? Any good websites?

pika (also known as loadingNOW) probably would be able to do the sprites and maybe he could also get other data out of the games as he is good at making cheat codes.

Arty2 on Legendary Pokémon has been working on writing documentation for certain basic data structures; I have started looking into it as well.

Hopefully they won't come up with all-new designs to frustrate those of us who don't read ARM assembler code.

I've always wondered this, and now seems like a good time to ask- How does one go about finding the code to these games? It's not like one can hack into them by just playing them on a Game Boy/DS...

I think they use.....the dreaded "R" word to hack and etxrac sprites.

Whatever is the case, acquiring the data's going to be a lot of fun for whoever takes up the task, namely because software to analyse the data is... how you say... not as mature as the stuff for the GBA era games, and I don't see them improving quickly enough for the next four months.

It's no problem to buy the game and dump the ROM yourself.

Ripping the sprites this time around will indeed be total hell - I'll be honest....

The current DS eumlators suck. They freeze when you press A, they hang like crazy.

We could use a REALLY GOOD digital camera....

Yes. There'll be plenty of ROM images around, and except for a few people who've invested a lot of money on certain specific pieces of hardware, no one will be playing them. But we'll certainly have access to the data from the DS game card, and from that, we should be able to figure out a *lot* of things, even without playing the game.

Of course, I'm planning on importing the game as soon as it's released, so I don't have any worries there. ^^;

I'm also importing, but I hope it doesn't take too long to rip the sprites.

Though the fact that it will seem we will have 5 sprites alone for (almost) each Pokemon between the two games could prove interesting.

Screenshots/maps could prove to be the biggest annoyance though. For the GBA or Gameboy games, anyone could get all the screenshots or maps they needed for a page to demonstrate features etc.

Unless Diamond and Pearl will run fully on emulators early on (not at all likely), that's not going to be an option.

Well, if we want to find out attacks and stuff, their's always importing and translating japanese player guides.

Is it plausible that us in america will have pics of all the Pokemon normally in the game on release day?

I would imagine that text information such as attacks would be one of the easier things to extract from the games. I don't see the way they're stored being too different to anything previous.

The animated sprites in Emerald were sufficiently complex to have required partial GBA emulation to extract, so I'm told.

I'm sure if someone found a "hidden" Pokémon, whether he's from Japan, America, or whatever, it would spread the Internet quickly. Like Deoxys, for instance.

Is there a remote chance Fritz would return to Pokémon, you think? Why did he drop his site anyway? :|

I think he just lost interest, like a lot of other people. He said that he got out of a relationship that was "troubling for him." A lot of people think he was referring to his relationship with Pokemon but a lot of others think he might have literally meant what he said. I guess we'll never know, as he really doesn't like to talk about Pokemon anymore.

I doubt it's going to be an option. Reading up on the emulator scene... they are really intent on not repeating the legacy of GBA emulation. (I.E. attempting to discourage the using of the emulators to play ROMs by not 'fully' perfecting DS emulation until the system is dead, which... I doubt will be in a long long long while)
