NPD Feb sales, Nintendo dominates...PS3 bombs

This has been posted all over the gaming forums I go to, surprised nobody has talked about it here. The NPD console sales for February are in for the U.S.

Nintendo DS 485,149
Wii 335,324
PlayStation 2 295,102
Xbox 360 228,225
PlayStation Portable 175,651
Game Boy Advance 135,887
PlayStation 3 127,321

The Wii continues to sell very well, only beaten by the DS, (Nintendo owns the charts especially with GBA and GCN included) while the PS3 has done horribly in comparison.

On another note, I'm surprised people are still buying Gamecubes. Or PS2 for that matter, you'd think everyone owns one by now.
 
Jeez, even the GBA's kicking its ass. When you're losing to last generation's handheld system, you're not going to win the console race.



Just shows that Nintendo's following Reggie, kicking ass, and taking names in a big damn truck.

I'm more concerned with the fact that people are buying Game Boy Advances.

PS3 sales and Wii sales aren't really indicative of anything because of mass shortages.
 
Heh, there are no shortages of PS3's. The stores are filled with them, they always have been.

The Wii on the other hand is selling out as soon as they get to the store, (I stood out in the bitter cold of NYC to get a Wii for 3 hours from 6:30am to 9:30am to get one), and I have yet to see any Wii's sitting on shelves...and this is 4 months after launch. When the Wii shortages stop, it will be amazing to see how much they call afterward.

Its amazing how so much can change in a single generation. No company managed to be the market leader for three gens in a row. Sony is experiencing now what Nintendo did with the N64.
 
Now that's just sad. No wonder I've seen PS3 become rare to non-existat an PS2 games get a lot of ads.

Wii definately looks like a hit and it's not surprising. A revolution in gameplay from the cheapest of the three plus you get Nintendo's warranty to boot.

And Microsoft holds its position as the middle child in all this.

And to think we've yet to get the new Pokemon games which will probably be the nail in the coffin for PSP.
 
I don't think Wii will ever be able to overtake the 360 in sales overall, (especially with Halo 3 coming later this year), but Nintendo can easily remain in #2 for the U.S.
 
When Sony gets some decent games out and when/if they drop the price on the Ps3 they will be looking better.

I see Wii's and Ps3's in mostly every store I go in. I never saw a shortage of either system except through the very first week of release.

The Wii will probably allways do better than the Ps3, Its just more appealing to most people. Most people are to reluctant to spend the big money on a Ps3. The fact is there just aren't as many hardcore gamers out there, and thats what the Ps3 appeals to, because there the only ones willing to pay the price.

Well like I said, I hope they drop the price on the Ps3, and its only a matter of time before some great games come out. I hope then people will have better things to say about the system. I shouldn't get my hopes up though, since this is a Pokemon forum...
 
The problem is with these sales figures game companies will be more likely to market with the Wii or 360. Companies aren't going to spend money making games unles they think they can make it back and then some. Nintendo had the advantage of established franchises like Mario, Star Fox, Pokemon, ect to base games on. Sony doesn't really have that luxury since just about all of the few mascots they had became general franchises not tied to any one company.
 
Eh, as much as I'm a hardcore Nintendo fan, the Ps3 isn't going to stay this bad forever. It's got the most laughable launch I've ever seen, but I've also seen some really awesome upcoming stuff for it. All they need is a price drop and some good games and they'll be back in the running.
 
Also Sony lost their trump card with GTA. Last gen GTA ALWAYS came out for the PS2 first.

This gen the next Grand Theft Auto is coming out for the PS3/360 at the same time. For people who are loyal to that franchise, what are they going to do? Buy a $600 console for GTA or buy a $400-$500 console for it?
 
I'm glad that Crackdown won the software NPD battle for February. I bet a large percentage of the sales were due to Microsoft and Bungie's promises of Halo 3 beta keys, but still, Crackdown is a pretty damn good game.
