Re: Rep?

IMO rep systems are horrible.

They promote favouritism between members, it makes new members intimidated, and on some forums people give positive rep (+) on stupid, cheap one liners made by established members but don't do the same to long thought-out posts by the more newer members.

And don't get me started on the whole bullying and targeting aspect of it; though seeing as vBulletin rep systems have a system which prevents this, I thought I'd like to mention it.

Re: Rep?

I agree i know of forums where there is a rep system and there are problems just as you decribed
i think bulbagarden doesnt need one

Re: Rep?

The reason there isn't a rep system is because nobody here wants one. End of story.

Re: Rep?

I'm new here, but I know that in places that do allow rep, it can pretty quickly turn into an ego trip.

Re: Rep?

I've experimented with rep points (called karma) on on some of my other forums. trust me, it's a bad idea.

Re: Rep?

yeah; that doesn't seem like a productive way to establish value among members.

Re: Rep?

On another site i frequented, i had -9000 rep points.
it's a poor decision. it contributes nothing and promotes favoritism.

Re: Rep?

Oh I love the rep system on vB. It's fun to mess with people that way.

Re: Rep?

Why do you post on topics when it obviously isn't happening.. >___>
