I don't know about anyone else, but one of my favorite things about this time of year, possibly more than anything else, are Christmas carols and other holiday songs. Some are corny, yes, but others are very pretty or amusing.

So, what are some of your favorites?

I've got a soft spot for Sleigh Ride (yes, even after hearing/playing it at every school Christmas concert ever), Silver Bells, Carol of the Bells, and pretty much anything played by the Trans-Siberian orchestra for their Christmas concert.

"God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" is one of my favorites. I'm not quite sure how to explain why. It sounds kind of sad (I tend to like sad-sounding songs), but it also sounds brown/orange-lighting-y, like a room lit by a few candles (or something). It gives an odd sense of time slowing down slightly and a gloom-with-a-spark-of-hope-type feeling. I love that whole combination of things.

I remember that "Silent Night" used to be my favorite when I was younger. Don't remember why, though.

There is also the Hanukkah song that we sang in Choir class in middle school. Some of the lyrics I remember are "Light the candles, celebrate the Feast of Lights," something about "ancient holiday" (I think), and "it's Hanukkah tonight." It goes from fairly upbeat to this slow part about the origin of the significance of the menorah (none of the lyrics of which I remember, though I think it said something about the oil), then back to upbeat to finish the song. I like that song. It's pretty.

There's this French song that goes "Vent frais, vent du matin, vent qui souffle au sommet des grands pins. Joie du vent qui passe, allons dans le grand [repeat from beginning]." That one's cool, too.

O holy night--best when a capella
We three Kings of Orient
O come, O come Immanuel

We need more songs like those!

"It's the most wonderful time of the year!"

Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
Feliz Navidad
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
Silent Night
Jingle Bell Rock
Anything from "The Year Without a Santa Claus" (one of my favorite Christmas movies)

Oh, hey, doesn't that "The Snowman" thing have to do with Christmas? Or is it just a winter thing? Anyway, I love "Walking in the Air." I have four different versions, too! (Original, Nightwish's, plain piano, and Celtic Woman's.) Can't believe I forgot this one....

*toasts with friends over here *

Well, there are two facts:

A. If I am in town this X-Mas, hopely I will serve myself with some warm with some happy pokemon songs based on this cold season:
1. Pokemon Holliday Rap
2. Winter is the Coolest time of Year
3. Winter Vacations
4. Under the Mistletoe,etc
or something based more on rock or joyful pop(Santa is comin', On X-Mas be good, Above the Mountains,etc)..well these are Romanian X-Mas songs(and yes I come from this part of the world!!) but there are still joyful and cool.

B. If I am out of town on X-Mas and go to my house in the mounts, I think I will take with me some symphonies-dunno why but i feel very well when i listen to these songs, especially if it will snow- and that includes: all symphonies of Beethoven, maybe I will take the Movie 8 OST symphonies too.

But the only song that'll be in my head will be a very loud "Happy Birthday To You!" song for my name day on X-Mas...

....and ofcourse, cheers

1. Oh Holy Night- it has that epic feeling to it.
2. Nobody don't like Christmas- The only good dub music was on the Pokemon Christmas Bash CD, at least in my opinion, and Meowth+Christmas=Neku's happy place.
3. Santa Baby- Pretty risqué by Christmas standards, but it's FUN.
4. Carol of the Bells- The Trans Siberian Orchestra version. It rocks.
5. Anything Mannheim Steamroller- okay, so I'm a dork.
6. Last Christmas- I forget the band that did it, it's from the 80s. Depressing, but good.
7. Wonderful Christmas Time-Come on, it's Paul McCartney.
8.So This is Christmas (War is Over)- Is this supposed to be happy or depressing? I don't care, it's good.
