After over 50 years of severed ties, President Obama and President Castro have announced plans to improve relations between the US and Cuba. Changes that will be made include:
-Reviewing the designation of Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism
-Easing a travel ban for US citizens
-Easing financial restrictions
-Increasing telecommunications links
-Efforts to lift the 54-year-old trade embargo

The embargo is a US law that can only be lifted by congress.

It's about time the US lifted that embargo, since there are Cuban-Americans who have families down there and are probably missing them, as well as wanting to see their homeland for themselves. This will also bring a lot of money to both countries as businesses in both countries can finally expand.

To be fair, they should have lifted the embargo years ago.

It's about time. I just hope Congress thinks in the long term and lifts the embargo but that's wishful thinking.

America is in bed with way worse characters on the world stage. Good job Obama. You finally did something right.

Not quite, some Republicans seem intent on keeping the embargo, and while I am sided with neither party, I only care that the US normalizes relations with Cuba rather than just doing nothing about it ever since the Soviet Union collapsed. If anything, the world needed it.

Well, for once you and I agree on something XD. But yes, the whole continued situation was just ridiculous.

I mean the embargo was largely unsuccessful anyways so, what's the point? Also just reading that linked article, why even bother trying to block this? Like is this still Republicans being the party of "fuck Democrats and anything and everything they want to do?" It literally makes no sense for them to block it. It makes little sense for anyone to block repealing the embargo.
