Obama's first approval ratings

So that's... the third highest approval rating out of eight presidents? I'd say he's tied with Eisenhower but Obama's got a disapproval rating of 12% compared to Eisenhower's 7%.

Good result. Not terribly surprising.

It is a little early, but on the other hand he got a lot done in a few days.

It's definitely better than what Bush left with, that's for sure. But I'm really liking the things he's been doing. Especially when he froze the wages of people that work in the government (I'm not sure which ones exactly off hand) so if they were making over $100,000, they couldn't get anymore raises. It's about time!

these people who disproved him must be Klu Klux Klan or Neo-Nazi or other racist people.

Uhh, not necessarily. I disagree with Mr. Obama, but I don't associate myself with those groups.

Anyway, it's kind of early to start rating him as a president, which seems to be showing up in the high "who gives a sh**" rating. Also, I think the 68% is based on peoples' still-high expectations for him. After he's actually been president for a while, the numbers should start really reflecting his job as president.

Maybe, maybe not. As Michael Barone points out, Kennedy's honeymoon lasted pretty much until the day he was shot, which means close to a good 3 years. Even the Bay of Pigs couldn't knock down Kennedy's approval. Further, Kennedy didn't have the advantage of an unpopular predecessor (in fact, Eisenhower also had a "permanent honeymoon", although he derived it from political skill rather than charisma). All things considered, Obama's honeymoon should last at least two years.

There are a few things Obama could do that could hurt him significantly (unfortunately for liberals, trials for former Bush administration officials is one of them), but Obama seems to have enough sense to recognize most of these pitfalls and at least TRY to avoid them. Whether the liberal Democrats in Congress try to drive him off the cliff is another matter.

Eh, they might be the non-believers and GOP faithfuls who aren't giving in. But not that this is a concern. You don't expect someone to have full approval ratings.

He's going to be real careful about these things.

I highly doubt that white supremacist types make up 7% of the population. I think you've got to throw in free republic users and talk radio listeners as well.

EDIT: Or 12%, for that matter. *misread earlier posts*

If they did, I would've been scared to get out of the house, and I'm not even American. It's very comforting to think that most of those 12% are just avid Republicans.

i dont approve of him
and im pretty sure im not kkk
or neo-nazi

just a far right repub
his is fearful about closing gitmo
because they may move terrorist
really really close to me

...We already have terrorists in jails on American soil. Odds are, unless they open a jail in, literally, your BACKYARD, they won't be any closer than they already are. Of course...most the people in Gitmo are enemy combatants, not necessarily terrorists...

they say they were going to release most of the suspected terrorist back to there native country
but there are less than twenty that they need to keep in custody and in maximum security prisions because of what they did in the past

and they are going to move them to either camp pendelton or two other military bases

pendelton is like 20 miles away from me
that scares me

But the millions of murderers, rapists, and thieves housed in various jails DON'T scare you? How about the ones NOT housed in jails because they're running free, murdering people left and right? How about the domestic terrorists likely living all around us (ELF, at the very least, is still active)? Why do Arabic terrorists scare you more than ALL of these? Do you think America's naval forces are incompentent and unable to properly watch terrorists? Do you feel our armed forces are lacking in some regard? Do you not TRUST the navy? Do you not TRUST America's navy?

Actually, terrorists are SUPERVILLAINS with SUPERPOWERS that we are unable to control unless we do very unethical things to them. Those unethical things rob them of their SUPERPOWERS and make the terrorists weak.

Little known fact: Muslims have laser beam vision powered with the blood of Christian babies.

I trust our navy and military. But what happens if there is a mistake. Loose terrorists running around teh country. And to be honest I am alot more afraid of someone who is capable and willing to hijack an airplane and fly it into a building killing over 5,000 people or someone who is going to plant a car bomb just to kill someone in the name of their god, rather than a kleptomaniac who accidently kills someone. That person actually has a chance of reform.
And whose to say Al-Qieda isnt going to attmept to bust these terrorist out. They would be saving there own men while attacking a military outpost on AMerican soil.

Terrorists can't do much without the means to do it.

in a facitity known as Camp Pendelton, where Marines and the Navy are trained im sure their arent alot of weapons
