If you don't know what I'm talking about, look at the attachments below, or at my avatar. It seems like there's one for every movie, starting from at least the second movie. The picture is always an air-brushed "portrait" of the main feature Pokémon of that movie, and nothing else but the logo of the movie at the bottom of the picture. Curiously, I have never seen one for the first, third, and seventh movies (that's the Mewtwo, Entei, and Deoxys movies respectively) - has anybody seen it yet? Also just what is it for? They could be awesome for movie posters, but one photograph I have seen of it for the eighth movie seems to be like a book of some kind.

Also, as a request, does anyone have higher-quality scans of those pictures? Thanks in advance.

Posters of the first eight Pokémon movies

That is from a book that commemorates eight years of Pokémon movies. ISBN 4091062326. The original sheet is A3 size, so this is about as large as I can make it with a sensible filesize.

But that's not what you're looking for. These look remarkably like the covers of the movie "pamphlets". I have the one for movie 8 and movie 9, others may have more.

Yeah those attached images of yours are from the pamphlets, which are books sold for 600 Yen at the movie theatres. I have the one for movies 1, 8 and 9 and I also got some of the other ones which I will have soon. They're not really airbrush. o.o

The movie screenshots that Altomare_Latias - or whatever his/her name is - posted for SPP soon after the movie's start in theatres are simply scans from those books.

The Lugia one posted earlier came with the Ancient Mew card at Japanese theaters. A collectibles store that used to be near my house had it for sale for a while (for way more than the equivalent of 600 yen, of course); the reason I remember it so well was that I ended up arguing with a kid who insisted the portrait was of Mewtwo (this was before GS came out in the United States).

I've seen the Entei movie program a lot--it pops up on eBay from time to time. Although I just checked now and I couldn't find one. I only own the Revelation - Lugia movie program + Ancient Mew card, and I only recall seeing the Deoxys movie program maybe once or twice on eBay so I couldn't tell you what it looks like. For some reason I've never saved the pictures of these to my machine, but I will next time I see them if you're still looking for airbrush pics!

Ah, so these are pamphlets after all - I have thought for a long time that these were simply posters. And it's interesting to note that the first movie used standard clipart - this indicates (or at least hints out) they toyed with the idea of airbrush art from the second movie onwards.

I would like to ask another question - what exactly is inside the pamphlets (other than the ancient Mew card as Argy mentioned for the Lugia one, and as nYoo mentioned, screenshots of the movie)? I think I have heard about the pamphlets' contents elsewhere before (didn't know these were the ones at that time though). Also, who drew these artworks? I had never seen this airbrush-like style applied anywhere else, although some of the anime's promotional material seems to be drawn in the same style.

OK, thanks in advance!

Catalogue of merchandise, basic, but incomplete, rundown of the plot... interviews with voice actors, complete staff credits, uh... song lyrics...

That's what was in the 8th and 9th pamphlets.

I think the movie 5 pamphlet would be the rarest, seeing as how few people went to the cinema to actually watch that one - this, to my knowledge, can only be obtained at cinemas.

Do they say anything interesting in those interviews?

Yeah that's about what is in every pamphlet. Some have an extra like the ancient mew card in the second pamphlet. The one for movie 1 has foldable papercraft thing of togepi, the one for the 3rd movie has window sticker with Entei and the one for movie 7 has a 3D poster and a little 3D booklet with 3D glasses. The ones for movie 8 and 9 also have papercraft thingies. o.op
Also, since pamphlet 4 every pamphlet has a place where you can put a stamp of the movie theatre. The stamp usually has a main character of the movie on it and apparently the name of the theatre.

By the way, I now have all of the pamphlets besides the one for movie 6. I'll scan the covers tonight.

Ah. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, and thank you :ksmile: .

So, the movie pamphlets also serve as a little souvenir and extras for the movie?

Also, I have heard of some plant-seed thingy that was related to the fourth movie - was it also part of the pamphlet for that movie, or was it separate? And what did the 3D poster for the seventh movie looked like?
