First of all, literally, the introduction text has been changed. The first paragraph is still the same, however, the second paragraph now reads:

今、サトシとヒカリとポケモンたちの出会いと冒険と戦いの物語がはじまる!

Hikari has been added to the text... note that the AG version of the text did not include Haruka.

Next change - Jinnai Hiroyuki has been replaced by Itō Kenjirō under planning (企画). Both he and the other planner, Kubo Masakazu, were the executive producers of M9.

An interesting addition: there is now a series organisation credit (シリーズ構成) for Tomioka Atsuhiro (who wrote the first four episodes of DP).
Also: the executive animation director, Yamada Toshiya, has now picked up the character design credit (formerly Ichiishi Sayuri).

Another addition is the assistant animation director credit (作画監督佐) - it's probably going to change every episode, unlike the executive director credit (総作監補佐) which was added a few weeks ago.

Two changes expected that have not come to pass: DP001 through DP004 have been animated by Team Iguchi - the prediction was for Team Ota, however, it looks like the change is permanent for DP - the OLM website lists DP under Team Iguchi. The other is that the new music composer, Satō Hitomi, has not been added to the partial original score credit (一部原曲・作曲), while Aoki Morikazu is still listed despite having been dropped from the game credits.

Begin speculation of Team Ota working on a May Spinoff for Pokemon Sunday............. Now!

It keeps grabbing my attention how important they're making Hikari to this saga... perhaps rather than Hikari being a supposed rehash of May, May was a prelude to Hikari?

That would truly destroy Scott. He's being doing everything to make Hikari look like a May clone (check his sig at SPPf).

So, the cherished Team Ota isn't working on this (at least not yet). I wonder if they'll do important episodes like gym battles and contests.

The only thing that really seems to have changed is the production manager. Each team is named for the production manager - Shōji Ōta (Team Ota), Noriaki Iguchi (Team Iguchi), Tsukasa Koitabashi (Team Koitabashi) and Nobuyuki Wasaki (Team Wasaki). (Perhaps something happened to Mr. Ōta.) As far as I can tell, the animation directors, screenwriters etc. have not changed.

Iguchi was becoming better... but yes, if Ota is still around, they could do spinoff series xD

BTW, never heard of Team Wasaki... can you tell what episodes/movies/OAVs they did?

No wonder. :p

That was interestin', Zhen Lin! ^^

Wow, I didn't think the introduction text would actually mention Hikari in it. o.o That's awesome. xD

If you're saying that each new female character is apparently playing a bigger role than the last, then that is what looks like to be happening. Hikari is being promoted a hell of a lot more than May ever was. Hikari also got far more spotlight in D/P #1-4 than May got in AG 1-4. Not to mention Hikari gets an ending theme right off the bat and May didn't get one till the end of AG. They're pretty much glorifying Hikari non-stop, even with the very first D/P promotional image that only showed her and lacked even Ash.

In any case, I have no problems with it. Ash/May spotlight was divided more like 60/40, but Ash/Hikari spotlight is divided more even like 50/50. All the way through D/P #8 has Ash and Hikari switching off between spotlight, and Brock isn't getting anything so far.

It's more along the fact that the writers know how to handle a co-star now. They started off May coming from a sidekick that lacked a quest, (Misty), but the transition from AG to D/P has them already knowing what to do from the getgo.

I wouldn't be surpised if Hikari is the result of the writers learning from their past experiences with writing Misty and May, and developing this girl to be the most important and focused on than all of them.

Wow, that worries me, Scott......

With Hikari getting so much screen time, wouldn't that take away too much screen time from Ash?

I mean, sure, there can be a co-star female character like there was in AG. I'm fine with that.

However, if they're planning to give Hikari that much screen time, it would almost be like Ash isn't the main character anymore (cause really, when would they get to focus on him in the show? They wouldn't have time to, if they followed THAT kind of agenda)......

But anyway, Ash is supposed to be the main character, so I really don't want Hikari taking that role away from him, if you know what I mean.

And I really do hope that, overall, Ash stays the main character throughout the D/P series (no matter how much screen time Hikari gets).

Well let's look at the D/P episodes so far in terms of spotlight:

D/P 1: Hikari episode
D/P 2: Hikari episode
D/P 3: Ash/Hikari episode
D/P 4: Ash/Hikari episode
D/P 5: Ash episode
D/P 6: Ash episode
D/P 7: Hikari episode
D/P 8: Ash episode

So far the spotlight break down is:

Hikari: Three episodes
Ash: Three episodes
Hikari AND Ash: Two episodes
Brock: Zero episodes

Judging by the first 8 D/P episodes alone, Ash and Hikari are pretty even in terms of spotlight. Brock so far is being ignored like he was in AG. And as I said, not even May was promoted this much early on.

I noticed Ash seems to narrarate previews for his episodes, and his theme song plays.

While Hikari does that for her episodes.

8 is an Ash episode????!!!

But I don't get it though......

Why would the writers neglect Ash like that?

He's the main character, and it's always been that way!!

I mean, they must know that Ash is, or should be, of greater importance than Hikari since he's been in every single Pokemon episode (unless, they have like, a ton of new writers who know absolutely nothing about the history of the series).

And surely in later D/P episodes they won't continue giving Hikari just as much, or even worse, more spotlight than Ash, would they?

Oh god, I sure hope not. X_X

They may want to make Hikari as important as Ash, Lisa.

They seem to be rotating, the Naetle episode is Ash-heavy.
Yeah, that's true, Habunake.

And I really hope they keep it that way.

Or it would be even better if, when more D/P episodes come up, the writers make them more Ash centered and have many of the episodes focus on him in almost every scene. :)

That would keep Ash fans like myself from worrying about the writers turning on Ash, and making him a supporting character to Hikari, who then becomes the new main character.

I think that's probably an Ash fangirl's worst nightmare, lol. ^^o

EDIT: Oh. As important?

Wow, I didn't think of that......

You could be right, Damian.

That might be what they're doing.

And I guess I wouldn't mind that. It's still a pretty good amount of screen time, and it's way better than Ash being nothing but a supporting character (thank god that's not happening).

Anyway though, even if that is what they're planning to do, and have Hikari as important as Ash, I'd much prefer it to stay the "Ash always gets more screen time than everyone else, and he's the most important character" way, if you know what I mean. ^_^

As I said before, Satoshi is eventually going to be phased out (think about it...adding Hikari to the opening intro text, two Hikari themed songs, and the whole notion that everything revolves around Hikari). Will that happen now? Probably not. Will it happen within 200 episodes? I think so.

I don't think making Ash share the spotlight with a new character instead of having everything in the series revolve around him constantly is a sign that he's doomed.
