Obtain Secret Key at Toys 'R' Us in Canada this month: Rotom item to be available April 19-26

Toys "R" Us stores in Canada will distribute the Secret Key item needed to change Rotom's form in Pokémon Platinum from April 19-26.

Uh, it came out the same day as in America. Like just about every other product in existance.

Actually, this is the first time I can remember Canada getting an event. It's about bloody time.

Is this how it's going to be done in America? Because if so, that's ridiculous. We have Wi-fi mystery gift for a reason.

This is a first, I mean, someone other Japan got an event before we did! Don't get wrong I'm not complaining but its a rare thing isn't it?

I was gonna blog about this, but my blog got eaten up by the forums :/

So this was one of my concerns, that there won't be a wifi mystery gift event, or if there was, that Canada would be excluded. However, if I recall, they can only exclude different language cartridges, and Canada's Platinum is the same as America's.

So, trying to be a bit more optimistic about this, I see this as away of distributing the Secret Key event to those who may not have a good wifi connection (though its rather pointless since, if I recall, the secret Key's wonder card is transferable between games).

This also may be a way for them to test if its even worth having events in Canada (my assumption is that they thought otherwise, or else there would be), though they could have given us something that we couldn't get on wifi like the Regigigas and hype up the fact that it unlocks secret locations in Platinum.

Though, I wonder if it will be in all the Toys "R" Us, since I checked, and there's only one location in my city (the one near my house -_-) and only two in the neighbouring city.

I'm still hoping for a wifi event, but I actually want to play through Platinum with Rotom's forms soon.

Pfft what am I talking about Regigigas. It would have been better as the Shaymin event. I mean, they can still hype up the form change, better promote movie 11(and I was surprised to actually see a commercial for it) and possibly sell out more copies of Platinum to those who only have D/P. I mean the Secret Key is going on the basis that one already has Platinum, and has played far enough to get wifi working. Shaymin would have been better in getting little children to buy their merchandise (unless they have little Rotom figurines :P)

I hope they release it over Wi-Fi. I only went to TRU for a Pokemon event once. It was a "Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen Trade & Play Day" and no special Pokemon were given away. I went to GameStop for Deoxys because it's next to the grocery store and my family happened to go there that day.

My only hope of getting the Secret Key when it's released in America is if it's over Wi-Fi Mystery Gift. (I never understood why they never used it during DP. They could've saved themselves buttloads of money by not paying GameStop or TRU to distribute Pokemon and items.)

Though I don't know for sure, I'm pretty sure its the other way around. These events get people into their stores where they can use this event to promote other things.

I still think it was a waste to have a feature that went unused. Sure, holding the event in a store would allow for promotion of other products, but doing it over Wi-Fi would be convenient. Some people don't want to drive to a store (or they can't because it's too far away.)

Maybe they should it do it both ways? Hold the event over Wi-Fi and in-store? I'm sure that'll never happen, because nobody would go to TRU when they can stay home. Maybe if you go to the TRU you get a version of the event Poke that holds an item? The Wi-Fi Pokemon doesn't hold anything, but it still functions the same (as in, it would trigger special in-game events as any other event Poke would like the capture of Regis or the G Flower.)

they better still do it over WiFi. TRU events are pointless these days; the games have the option to receive Mystery Gifts from Wifi for a damn reason.

Anyway, this is rather sudden, since I have a Toys R Us near my workplace...

Unfortunately, the only thing preventing me from going is the lack of having Platinum.

WTF? Why are they doing it at Toys R Us? I was expecting it to be like the Japanese games and release it online? Toys "R" Us must be sponsoring some of this...

Well, I think that Toys "R" Us must have some kind of exclusive deal with Nintendo or something because since the 2006 Mew Event every big Pokémon event happens at Toys "R" Us. It doesn't bother me. I like it better than the way they use to handle the big Pokémon events *(now remembering the horror of the infamous Mew Mall across America tour from a decade ago)*

First time I can recall that Canada's getting an event before us. I'm happy for Canada, of course, but still, any hint of the U.S. getting such an event anytime soon?

I have a feeling we'll be getting it over Wi-Fi here in the U.S. Quoting directly from the Rotom pamphlet received with Platinum:

In order to change Rotom's form, you must receive the "Secret Key" over Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection and use it to gain access to a secret area.

Unless the pamplet is lying? It even gives instructions to get Mystery Gift. As for why they are using TRU instead of a Wi-Fi event in Canada, perhaps they thought not as many Canadians have access to Wi-Fi as we do.

could be a Canada thing. Just like how they changed the E-mail system in the Us Platinum from E-mail to Wii notification. me. i dont know if i want to cross the Detroit River to go to a Windsor Toys R Us.
