In the Sega 3D Classics (both versions), Ken Sugimori (also known as the main artist of Pokemon) drew the box arts. This is particularly fascinating because this is Ken Sugimori drawing Sega characters beyond those made by GameFreak (that means no Pulseman). Among the characters he drew include Sonic the Hedgehog, Arle Nadja (of Puyo Puyo), Opa Opa and Ecco the Dolphin. Here they are:

Sega 3D Classics aren't the only one who do this. In Smash for Wii U and 3DS, various artists get to draw newcomer Smash characters in different artstyles, such as the aforementioned Ken Sugimori drawing Greninja's art along with others like Peach in the mix, and Tetsuya Nomura's Cloud art with Link and Mario (and many more).

This brings up an interesting question: what styles would you like to see video game characters drawn in? It has to be a style that they haven't been drawn in. You can also suggest an artist to draw a video game character they don't normally draw.

For me, there are quite a few possibilities:
1) Mario (NOT Baby Mario) in Yoshi's Island artstyle. The only glimpse on this is found in Super Mario Advance 3, where you can see Mario and Luigi in that style when you select Mario Bros., but an official art for that would be nice.
2) Metroid in Silicon artstyle. What do I mean by Silicon artstyle? Take a look at this Mario Party 3 official art. Basically the 3D in the official art is primitive, but has a nice gloss to it. Metroid would fit because Samus is already wearing an armor, which would not look out of place for it.
3) Digimon as drawn by Ken Sugimori and Pokemon as drawn by the artists of Digimon. Would be a nice juxtaposition from two unique monster-raising series.

Well then, what are yours?

Thanks for reading.

I would like to see just about anything as interpreted in Kazuma Kaneko's style. He's one of the show-runners of the Shin Megami Tensei series, and his style has this sort of... "blocky" look to it. I still haven't found a good word to describe his style. Everything this man draws, including people, has the appearance of being really "solid" to me, almost robotic or mechanical (and in that way, he reminds me just a little bit of HR Giger). I'm gonna stop attempting to describe him and give some examples.

(Very big images below, sorry. It's the only way to do Kaneko justice! :p)

Just type "Kazuma Kaneko" into Google Images for more. It took me more time to prepare those samples than it should've because I have such a good time just looking at this man's style. Funnily enough, a DeviantArt user by the name of Henry Ahtom has created this image below, which I think is a good attempt at trying to reinterpret a Pokemon (Blaziken) in the style of Kaneko.

Notice how much thicker and stoically-posed Blaziken is in this interpretation. It's a funny way of trying to capture Kaneko's style.
