Now, I know there is a Safari Zone/Battle Frontier thread here, but that's full of speculation and whatnot and this actually serves a more useful purpose. However, if anyone moderators feel that this thread is unnecessary, I will relocate to the speculation thread.

In light of Serebii's new discoveries about the safari zone, I felt we should include a place to discuss it.

In case you don't know what they are:
There are 12 default maps, all of varying kinds. All information can be found here

Now, not only do we have so many areas in the Safari Zone to discover, we also have this:

After you have done the Warden's second task of bringing him a Sandshrew, he will allow you to start bringing Blocks into the Safari Zone. These blocks can be placed anywhere in the Safari Zone just by pressing A when you're playing through the Safari Zone

However, these blocks are not superficial and just for aesthetics, these items have the ability of drawing out certain Pokémon in each area if you place them right.

You can place up to 30 items in each of the six Safari Zone areas so use them wisely to get the desired outcome for the Pokémon you wish. We'll gradually compile a list of what item draws out what Pokémon. You can then see if the items have lured any Pokémon in the tile customisation computer

So, as was speculated and then supposedly disproven weeks ago, the areas of the Safari Zone are customizable, to the point that you can attract pokemon you would normally not see.

Picture example:

*All from Serebii

So, in conclusion, it seems that GF has worked amazingly hard to make the Safari Zone much, much more than just an optional visit every now and then. I can see thousands of players getting addicted to trying to draw out their favorite pokemon or whatever it is fans do with customization on this scale.

So, yeah, discuss I guess. In my honest opinion, this is amazing.

You're gonna make an impossible maze out of 30 items and the natural safari zone elements? Dude, send it to me.

Call me a plotfag but

WHAT THE FUCK?!

A Trainer comes and changes the landscape. LOL.

It makes no motherfuckass shadow of sense.

Their slogan should be "Johto Safari Zone - our Customer is our God!"

I think the move the zones concept is pretty nice, but the placing objects is just too much, it's like the whole safari zone is your secret base! 0.0

I like the idea of not having to wade through hundreds of Wooper to find that one Arbok. Any idea on what Pokémon will be in it?

• There are 12 unique, default maps in the Johto Safari Zone to switch around and explore for Pokemon. Each map has six zones. You switch around the maps on the computer outside the Safari Zone and can even make your own, though we haven't explored this yet. In HeartGold, we can confirm Lapras, Geodude, Graveler, Magnemite, Magneton, Misdreavus, Murkrow, Magmar, and Kangaskan are capturable. Some of the Pokemon are encountered more often on specific maps. For example, you can find Koffing, Weezing, Grimer, Arbok, and Ekans far more often on the swamp map. On the planes map, you encounter Girafarig, Rattata, Abra, and Smeargle more commonly than anywhere else (perhaps exclusively for some of them). This information is subject to change as we play through the Safari Zone.

I also have photographic confirmation of Larvitar, as well as rumors of Slugma and Houndour.

There are literally dozens of Pokémon in the Safari Zone. We're hard at work trying to catalogue them since they arent listed in the encounter tables (which is why they're not visible in the Pokédex) but I would not be surprised if most Pokémon were obtainable

You can find 3rd & 4th gen Pokemon in it with these items

Geez! I wonder what kinds of pokemon are attracted to sign posts.

evryone is talking about sending each other safari zones, but has it already been confirmed that you can? (if so, source please)

I think I remember that part from the August issue of Corocoro.

yes, it was confirmed that you can send safari zones to your friends.

Honestly, I don't care too much about something like this. I don't want to have to look at a guide book or go online just so I can custoize my safari zone to catch the pokemon I want. I go to the Safari Zone for catching pokemon, not for customizing each and every little detail.

Did you not read the part were customizing comes in handy for summoning new Pokemon?

Sadly, it's worse. You have to wade through hundreds of Rattata to find that one Larvitar (it can appear in the mountain area; appeared for me without any items). Good luck catching it, too. And don't even THINK about going there at night, or else you'll literally sink in Zubats and Golbats.

See, serebii is right here in this thread, and I can't troll in any way, shape, or form because I hate this rendition of the Safari Zone so much. Even if he wasn't providing info, I still wouldn't be able to do it. I think I'd actually prefer to see another holocaust happen before another pile of irritating bullshit like this! That's how much I hate it!

Also, while we're here, the initial zones actually seem to vary. I had the Saharah, Savannah, and Mountain areas initially, instead of them being unlocked via the challenge.

I really hope that, with all the post-Johto Pokemon like Houndour and Murkrow being added to the Safari Zone, they'll do the same to Pikachu, but I can't help but think that they're just gonna force you to either wait until Kanto or use the Yellow Forest event instead.
