--albeit not that well. Or often.

Soooo, since failing my recent Art exam with just over 20% of the maximum marks, I've pretty much lost all confidence in myself when it comes to drawing, which is probably understandable. I never used to draw much, but I've started drawing something every few days now for a reason that I have yet to find.

And my deviantArt page is still pretty empty.

My drawings used to look awkward and plain, but over the past few days, I've been working on changing my drawing style to look more busy (my friends describe it as "slightly creepy").

A couple of my most recent things:

Eeh. They're not great.

Re: I can do art, too--

well for one, the people are VERY thin, and the head is more of an oval shape with the hair looking like a beehive style.

i also notice the guitar on the second picture is very large compared to the human.

although, this may just be your style, and it sure is creepy. kind of reminds me of the nightmare before christmas, and how jack (or whatever his name was) was very skinny. looks a little bit like slenderman too.

That's all pretty much what I was going for. The last time I drew a realistic human shape, I just couldn't get the proportions right at all, so I decided to change to this kind of thing. I noticed the bass was way too big on the second picture, but it was 5am, and I really didn't want to change it.

EDIT: And no, that's not just an excuse I'm making to cover my ass.

Re: I can do art, too--

I got very bored earlier and did this. Have some more terrible artwork, Bulbagarden!

Re: I can do art, too--

I hope this can make you feel better about your drawings: It's terrible.

LOL JK. You got some style, if I may say so.

Re: I can do art, too--

I'm liking the style. It's decently unique in a world of flat tones, thick outlines and happy, cheery settings. I'm reminded of Tim Burton-esque, gothy/punky kinda art which you never see anymore.

*stamp of approval*

Re: I can do art, too--

I love it especially the first one. Try doing something in the background to give it a more eerie feel. Overall I love the idea.

I love the things he does - exactly what I was going for. Thank you very much!

I was planning to do something with the backgrounds at the time, but then I looked at the clock, realised that it was 5am and I hadn't slept, then though "oh fuck it", and went to bed. Thanks. :)

Re: I can do art, too--

wow i really love your style of drawing... its kinda original in its own way :)

Re: I can do art, too--

Pretty cool stuff here! I like when people put in lots of little details: like you did with the hair. Shows that you took time. Also, adding differences in the shadows to than to the actual person looks pretty cool! Nice work! I'm not sure why you think you can't draw....

The hair, actually, takes almost no time at all. Every time someone asks me about the hair, they expect it to have taken ages to do, but it honestly takes around 5 minutes for me to do. I like drawing hair like that. It looks really detailed - I'm actually surprised myself with how detailed it looks considering the amount of time it takes.

This. I really like your style, and I couldn't have put it better myself.

Re: I can do art, too--

Thanks, Pyradox. :)

I've not actually drawn anything in that style for a while now, which is a shame. I haven't really been in the mood for art lately. However, I started something earlier, which I then raged at and quit. But then I started on something new, and discovered something. I draw best when I'm annoyed/angry with something/someone. Spoilered because, while it's not really "inappropriate", it's not really that appropriate either. I could probably not spoiler it, but I'll do it anyway (plus, I like having my images in spoilers - it looks professional).

Red is for just seeing how things look, and blue is for where I'm planning to shade later on. Lots more to do.

Re: I can do art, too--

Oooooh, is dat sum Vriska I see |D

Very nice! The proportions, especially on Vriska there, are fantastic. o_o

Re: I can do art, too--

Yeeees, that ish some Vriska. X'3

Awh, thanks, Itsuki. I'm glad you think that - I usually have trouble with proportions. I thought her head looked a bit small on her body, but after starting her hair, it started to look okay.

This is it as it is right now.

vriska3.png

EDIT: Okay, I'm done for tonight. Here's what I have so far.

vriska5.png

It's not looking too bad. Some lines need clearing up before I do anything else tomorrow, so I'll do that first thing. The colours look okay, but I could probably make her robotic arm a little lighter. Overall, I'm really happy with this so far.

EDIT2: Some changes.

vriska6.png

I changed the colour of her arm - made it lighter. Redid all of the lines, made them neater, and changed some stuff around.

EDIT3: @Itsuki @Kyumorph @HKim @Pyradox

vriska11.png

Finished.

You're too hard on yourself. :p That's a great drawing.

Re: I can do art, too--

That's a really well done Vriska!! I can tell you're improving!

Don't let your official art scores bring you down. Art school is notoriously difficult and people are far too harsh grading it. I can tell that you're improving greatly! So forget the haters, and focus on how well you're doing. :)

I'm always happy to help where I can, so if you'd like something redlined, just let me know. Vriska's hands look a little small to me - hands are big - and I can try to give other critique if you like. :)

Re: I can do art, too--

Like how you showed the process! Nice finished product! I like it! Keep up the good work! (geez, that's a lot of !'s.....)

Re: What's in the thread, Jack?

.3.

So, I just did this quickly for someone because I'm bored. It took maybe 10 minutes. Thoughts?

It's pretty good for ten minutes.
