I'm new so I apologize if this has been asked...but I saw the Japanese "High Touch" opening, and Misty, Tracey, etc. are featured.

Is this just an ode to the former characters or will we see them make appearances during this part of the anime??

I hope Misty returns.

One word: Spurt.

It doesn't mean we will, doesn't mean we won't. We'll almost undoubtedly see Tracey after the Sinnoh League since they'll probably go to Pallet. Misty's less definite, but the writers remember her so we'll probably see her at some point.

The second or third opening of a region usually always has a montage of the older main characters in the anime. This is nothing new, the last Hoenn opening and the Battle Frontier openings did this as well.

Yeah, though what is new is that this time around, Misty seems to be grouped with May and Gary (Both of whom appeared in DP and was directly related to a portion of the plot.), whereas in the past openings, she's usually grouped with Tracey, Professor Oak, or Delia. I mean, even you have to admit that this is something that hasn't exactly happened before.

That doesn't mean anything.

Both May and Gary are past characters, even though Gary is traveling in Sinnoh, we hardly see him.

Or it could go by order of importance, I think it was Tracey, then Max, Misty, then May, and finally Gary.

Is hopefully rotting as we speak.

:D

I'm kinda hoping we can go all the way through DP without a single full appearance by Misty, just for the hell of it. I try my best not to let annoying fanboys influence my opinion of a character or series, but all the Misty love in the fandom has seriously turned me off the character. Not to insult anyone, but that's the way it happened. '_'

At the most, the only return Misty will ever make is a few episodes in between leagues. There's nothing else they can do with her character. It's the same situation with the others. Now, Gary's a special instance in that he is actually still traveling, though not as a trainer. But most of Ash's traveling companions are either at home (Misty, Tracey, Max) or traveling (May). I truly believe the only reason they put the old characters in the intro is to show, for lack of a better term, they're "gone but not forgotten."

Gary might have went to Sinnoh to do something in the Team Galactic arc because really, I don't see a reason for him to have went there other than that. Maybe he will train Ash before the league and teach Pikachu how to overcome Paul's Electivire's protect(Since his knows it too.)

May might meet up with Ash at the end of Sinnoh too. Maybe when Ash and co. are on their way out of Sinnoh, May will be making her way to Sinnoh. I could see them meeting up on a dock right before Ash gets on a boat to Pallet Town

Max could get an episode in the battle zone. There could be some kind of contest and Norman would take him there to watch as "preparation" for when he becomes a trainer

Tracey will show up when Ash returns to Oaks as will Ash's mom

As for Misty, she might be at Ash's home to greet him again like when he returned from Hoeen. I'm really hoping for a bigger role from her though. Maybe another water pokemon showdown like the Whirl Cup in a filler arc. Crasher Wake does appear in the Battle Zone, I hope he holds a water pokemon tournament and Misty comes out to compete as well. Ash would be using his reserves since he usually does in the filler arcs, he would have a pretty good roster of water types this time. Squirtle, Kingler, Totodile, Corphish, and Buizel/Floatzel. Dawn could pimp her penguin a bit more and Brock could bring Ludicolo and Marshtomp back.

To answer the question:Sadly as much as i would like that Misty appears or even better returns this opening is probably just reference to older characters showing they arent completely forgotten, nothing more.

We will probably see Misty at some point, but when only time will tell.Im only hoping that her return wont be because of Togekiss. This would be predictable, uncreative and almost the same like her cameo appearance involving Togetic in Hoenn.

There's nothing else they can do with her character.

This isnt true.Misty as a character has lots of untapped potential laying on,and is left unfinished in many ways. She and her goal were never fully explored, for example we dont know too much about her past, parents, etc. There could be easily developed subplot on this, the same goes with her goal and ambitions.Writers could always come up with backstory involving her return to make further progress in achieving her dream of becoming water pokemon master, which is just one idea in sea full of options for her.

Possibillities are endless, but the fact is that writes rather want to continue replacing female characters with new ones, instead of focusing more on older characters.

It's highly likely (heck, it's just about guaranteed) that all these characters will be seen again at some point. If there's another lot of Chronicles then they'll get their own episodes - if not, then they'll probably be seen at a turning point in the show i.e. between the league and whatever Ash does next.

Misty has never appeared much since she left. Looking back, AG went on for a span of 191 episodes and Misty only ever appeared in 4 1/2 of those episodes. She got 2 eps in Hoenn to evolve Togepi and then only the last 3 minutes of the Agatha episode, and the 2 after that.

The only reason it seems like we saw her more is because of the 4 hoso specials, but now that those specials are dead they obviously won't be making any more of them.

It wouldn't surprise me if the writers themselves lost interest in her as a character. After all, if you put yourself in the writers shoes, how do you think they view a character they haven't written for since 2002 in a main role?

To be honest you might get your wish, Lil Brother. Now that Japan is at Snowpoint, the only real chance for her to cameo is in the eps between the 7th and 8th Gym. If she doesn't appear then, its fairly obvious she won't be in an ep until after the leagues.

Misty hasn't made a cameo since 2005. The last time she was in an episode was when she and Max got lost together in Mt. Moon. Even between the transition of May to Dawn, there was no Misty appearance, and on top of that May was brought back first to cameo in DP instead of her. On top of the 116 DP eps so far, she wasn't in any of the 65 Battle Frontier eps either, so its been nearly 180 episodes since Misty last appeared.

To be honest with the popularity of contests in the anime as well as May and Dawn's impact on the series, it pretty much leaves Misty as the odd one out. It honestly wouldn't surprise me if May gets another cameo sometime toward the end of the DP series, if the writers want to do a final Contest tournament with all the shows coordinators before the 5th gen starts. Perhaps during the Ribbon Society after Sinnoh ends, while Ash is at the Elite 4 matches.

I have honestly no clue why anyone ever thought the writers favored Misty over May or Dawn's character, because if you actually stop to think about it, the writers have turned this show against Misty in almost every way possible. She's been treated as another Tracey rather than as an important character, and it honestly feels as if the writers no longer care.

Part of me doesn't believe she'll return on the basis that she's not redesigned in the slightest unlike Gary or May.

The next time Misty might show up is a non-speaking cameo of her watching Ash in the Sinnoh League and even then I'm not sure if they would do even that.

For me, Misty had her time in the anime.
