Old CoTD that should've been brought back to showcase new Pokemon

Johto suffered from CoTD syndrome more than anything, but what bothers most people is that they could use CoTD multiple times but never do. Or overlook them when it would be more opportune to bring them back, to showcase new evolutions or new Pokemon that would've matched up perfectly.

Case in point, Duplica. The Pokemon trainer who loves mimicry and to perform. We get an episodes about Pokemon that are good at mimicry (Perap, Bonsly, Mr. Mime, Sudoowoodo) but we have more random characters instead of using old ones. Or for that matter - remember Mikey? Wouldn't he have been the pefect candidate to show off happiness evolution back in Generation II?

Or Smeargle. Instead of actually brining back in a main character who loves to draw to write the episode around, we get an episode about Smeargle feauturing yet another random character.

Pokemon is definately the series of missed opportunities.

Oh well, at least we can be fairly certain the next time we see May and Drew, we're almost certain to see Leafia or a Glacia and Roseraid.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. If anything though, the second Johto season in particular seemed to emphasize meeting old characters again. We got the returns of Ritchie, Suzy, Duplica, Todd, Squirtle Squad's Officer Jenny, Team Wartortle's Captain Aiden, and Aya, as well as Lapras, Charizard and Squirtle. There might've been others but I forgot. Then we had repeat performances for Jasmine, Morty, Casey, Sakura, Professor Elm and perhaps Chuck.

I don't know why they didn't do that in the Kanto Redux. There were so many damn opportunities. Why didn't we get a Sabrina episode instead of that ghost town one? It wouldn't have been a waste since the gym leaders have been on viewer's public radar since FRLG came out. I haven't tracked the second Kanto season that well, but it was disappointing from that perspective.

Yeah, it's so ironic to me how the show will not let go of Brock, but Lt. Surge, Erika, Sabrina, Koga, Blaine, and all the others do not get any more episodes after Ash has beaten them.

Pokemon is definately the series of missed opportunities.

Especially BF...

Hey, i ENJOYED CoTDs from early Johto! The Sentai/Kamen Rider- alike rocked xD And 4kids called him "Mr Parker" xDDD

Seriously, when BF was announced to be settled in Kanto i was sure that we would see old characters. But noo, noone ever heard about them.

IL has EVEN MORE CoTDs! (comparing to number of episodes)

If they have a Regigas episode and Jindai doesn't appear with his Regis, I think everyone will slam their heads into the wall until something breaks.

Oh yes, definitely!

I'm all for old Johto characters making a reappearance!

Duplica was really cool!! ^_^

Personally though, I'd love it if Lily were to return with the evolved form of Murkrow. That would be awesome!!

And yeah, don't mind me. I'm just very obsessed with that late Johto filler that probably no one else liked. ^^o

I think a major reason for not bringing back old characters is due to the fact that a good chunk of DP's audience is probably not even old enough to have seen those old episodes.

I was quite surprised when Tracey didn't get a Smeargle, I thought that was a let-down. I also find it a bummer that Ash's rivals and other gym leaders have very rarely made future appearances.

But I can think of one case where a new Pokémon was brought to the limelight by an old character. Misty recieved an Azurril from Tracey, and Azurril was part of the featured generation. So it's not 100% of a let-down.

Personally though, I think Hikari or even TR should get the new cat Pokémon of 4th generation, and have it start a chain-reaction of love or fueding with Meowth, instead of just one episode. :)

You know, it just occurred to me: if
Regigigas
is featured in the anime, Brandon/Jindai better be the one to unleash it.

But, you know, they would get interested in reruns, don't you think? And that woul make higher ratings for reruns.
