Johto suffered from CoTD syndrome more than anything, but what bothers most people is that they could use CoTD multiple times but never do. Or overlook them when it would be more opportune to bring them back, to showcase new evolutions or new Pokemon that would've matched up perfectly.
Case in point, Duplica. The Pokemon trainer who loves mimicry and to perform. We get an episodes about Pokemon that are good at mimicry (Perap, Bonsly, Mr. Mime, Sudoowoodo) but we have more random characters instead of using old ones. Or for that matter - remember Mikey? Wouldn't he have been the pefect candidate to show off happiness evolution back in Generation II?
Or Smeargle. Instead of actually brining back in a main character who loves to draw to write the episode around, we get an episode about Smeargle feauturing yet another random character.
Pokemon is definately the series of missed opportunities.
Oh well, at least we can be fairly certain the next time we see May and Drew, we're almost certain to see Leafia or a Glacia and Roseraid.
