So, I'm on Season 1 (Episode 42 to be exact) and I just looked at an XY episode to see the changes between the two seasons and I got a shock stronger than Pikachu's, so many details were added compared to Season 1 and I'm sure that all you XY-watchers will also find a shocking difference if you look at Season 1.

So my question is... Which one of the two do you guys enjoy seeing more, I personally think the oldest animations made it better to watch, just my opinion.

Vote away/

Newest animation. The digital coloring is easier on the eyes and the special effects are less cheesy.

Newest animation. Personally, I prefer the sharper details of the digital animations and how much better the animators make the use of angles, rather than the 2D style of the old animation.

I don't understand why people would vote for the older animation besides "MUH NOSTALGIA". Watching the Indigo League nowadays, the animation can be downright painful to look at sometimes... though I guess that was true of a lot of pre-2000's anime. Needless to say, I find the newer animation a lot easier on the eyes - and it helps that the characters look quite a bit older now.

I like new and slick, there's a reason anime doesn't use 1995 styles any more.

I've said this before and I'll say it again... The newest animation is slick and standardised to the point that only Iwane's distinct style still stands out, which means every episode is quite good. However, even though Kanto at its worst (and most of the rest of the time :p) was rubbish, when it was good it was unbeatable and created some of the most iconic visual scenes the show has ever had.

I prefer the new animation as well. I just wish they would actually animate stuff like fire and water and not revert to CGI effects.

I believe Akihiro Tamagawa's style is still pretty distinctive as well.

Animation style and quality? The newest of course.

But the show overall? I prefer older.

The older animation certainly has its charm, but I love the detail and fluidity of the newer stuff.

If you had asked me in Unova, I would have said original series animation easily. Unova was defined by its lazy stock animation for me. I know Gen I had its fair share of stock animation as well, but it was nearly every single time in Unova. At least Gen I did take the time to animate most of their scenes fresh and as other people have said, it has a special charm to it that I can't really put into words off the top of my head.

But Gen VI animation blows me away. It was just such a massive jump from the previous season. Not only is nearly every move animated individually, it looks absolutely gorgeous every time. I never thought I'd see Pokemon look better than a lot of other shounens.

I prefer older, but I prefer the older seasons of the anime in general anyway. Call me nostalgic, but I feel as if it had much more heart to it. I'm okay with the current animation style, and it's certainly easier on the eye, but it feels stale and plastic-y to me at times.

I go with old. Team Rocket mottos are pretty much always stock footage with very little variations in terms of footage since Best Wishes and CGI is occasionally used (which I don't like because it always looks out of place to me). However, I do agree that current animation looks easier for the eye.

It's kinda hard to watch the old episodes, both animation and plot-wise. I prefer the newer one.

Newer animation. Not only is it easier on the eyes, but it looks more lively, bright, crisper, and smoother. Also, the more unique styles of the various animators comes out more. I almost feel a bit odd watching old episodes like DP and AG due to the vast differences in styles between then and now. It's starting to feel like a real anime now.

Also......... FINGERNAILS/TOENAILS!!! *eyes shift back and forth before hiding for random comment*

One thing I still do wish they did in the newer episodes is perhaps individually animate Team Rocket's motto. They basically just reuse the motto for every appearance, and I wish that they animated each one to suit each situation like they used to in the older episodes (Advance Generation and Diamond and Pearl).
