from IGN: "Too many HMs"

ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Overall though, OR/AS have done well.

Kotaku review basically implied that the ORAS Post-League story is gonna be more then just ORAS when it comes to canon. I dunno if I should start building a fort, or daydream about what could be.

Red battle on a Soar island with his post-E4 team? (Maybe before he released/boxed Mewtwo?). A guy can dream :p

Eh, I don't think they would take it that far, meant more like just having Kalos at the root at everything. But it would be pretty snazzy if they do that, and make Origins canon. Imagine, origins design+Mega Charizard X. That would be enough for me to accept whatever they throw at us.

From that Kotaku review...

Suffice it to say that players will find a ton of things to do once the main story is done—there are many Pokémon to collect, new places to battle, mega stones to find, and story things to tackle.

Wow, 7.8'd by IGN. Different reviewers and all, but that's the lowest score a mainstream Pokemon game's received from them.

Kinda sad to hear about missed opportunities being an issue again, but at least it seems there'll be a decent post-game.

I am not why you want that to happen. Mega Evolution is not the be-all and end-all of the Pokémon world, or at least it shouldn't be.

Since Kotaku calls the story silly, I don't think that the post-game revelations will be all that satisfying. It's probably another case of Game Freak giving us material to ponder about.

Well its not megas, but the whole concept of there being wars in the past thatcaffected history. I'm still adamant it ties into Unova btw. Anyway, small clips up to Lavaridge, including the trick house. Music sells me on the game alone.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ur1GIVrPMJI

IGN gave ORAS a 7.8 for the dumbest reasons. there are no more HM's in this game than in other ones, and R&S had just as much water and had a much higher score.

IGN is just being their usual self

I agree with the HMs, not so much with the water thing. While these games are remakes, that's no excuse to innovate some things like the usage and management of HMs. If she took points off for that, that might mean that Rock Smash and Flash are HMs again(despite being TMs in newer gens) and that Strength could require multiple uses.

Not everyone uses HM slaves, or like making the trip back and forth to the PC. Unfortunately this might mean I might have to use another Tentacruel in Hoenn.

Also why are you guys so upset over the score? Was this review the only thing stopping you from buying the game? I'll buy ORAS, and enjoy it.

And thus my Sharpedo will ultimately have a moveset of Surf/Dive/Waterfall/Crunch.

Well, a remake is a remake. (I never used Flash in RS anyway. Just memorized the layout of Dewford Cave/Cave of Origins/Victory Road.)

You cannot be serious about there not being more HMs than usual. Have you ever played 5th or 6th gen? They cut out most of the less useful HMs and there's only a few spots in the game where they're necessary for completion. Compared to the original, they might be the same or less but from a modern perspective there's a lot of them.

This. It's ridiculous to expect them to do much about the water short of completely overhauling the game, but they certainly could've done more about the HMs. Rock Smash is still an HM in this game and it doesn't really need to be, and if they didn't tone down the HM usage in places like Seafloor Cavern and Victory Road it would be very annoying to traverse those areas.

I also agree GamesTM about the Hoenn Dex, it really needed a significant expansion. After having several games with larger variety and better balance between types, the Hoenn Dex feels outdated and more limited. Certain types are lacking in options, and it really shows when trainers have to repeat certain species (Phoebe and Glacia don't even have enough for a full team), and several areas only have a handful of Pokemon in them (especially some of the areas surrounding Mt. Chimney like Rt. 112, Rt. 113, and Jagged Pass), use duplicate species or Com Mons, or don't have anything unique (Rt. 123, Seafloor Cavern, and Cave of Origin). I'll even disagree with IGN and say that they actually don't have enough Water types to the point where most of the water routes are just Tentacool and Wingull (and their evolutions). The region is simply too large for 200 Pokemon.

I think with the HMs they're referring to how (I think) pretty much all of them were optional in Gen V. After that, I can see how it feels unnecessary to allocate the necessary moves to certain pokemon on your team.

I think this is ridiculous, IGN giving OR/AS a 7.8 when the original Ruby and Sapphire got a 9.5, and for real pointless nitpicks like there being "too much water", even though that's one of the things that made Hoenn special, then again, recent regions like Unova and Kalos barely had any water routes at all. Of course, this is IGN we're talking about, known for giving quality games poor ratings and being very biased while giving any game that has an M rating (Call of Duty comes to mind) high ratings like 9/10 and such.

Now, one could say that OR/AS isn't perfect, but it's a known fact that IGN is sometimes bribed with money by companies like EA and Activision to give their games high ratings, which is what results in their constant bias towards games like those from Nintendo and such.

7.8 isn't exactly bad.

While I do find reviews to be a useful reference, once I start playing ORAS, the only opinion that matters is mine.

Seems like the average rating for ORAS is higher than IGN's though, so I guess it doesn't matter too much? (I will get the game regardless of ratings and I think a lot of people here will)

Aside from that, I kinda get the water and HM part, but though the latter is easily solvable (5 HM's would probably have been better), but the water routes are such an integral part to the region and the plot, there's not a lot you can change about that (plus as soon as you've reached all towns, you can simply fly around and get wherever you need to go without problem)

But it's nice to see the game is so well received by critics so far (and even a 7.8 is not exactly bad either)

My only problem with the IGN review is the "too much water" thing. Did they not play Ruby and Sapphire at all? You had to Surf slag near everywhere in Hoenn when Gen III was released, why knock points off for that now? It doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

But it doesn't really matter, either. I'm still buying the game and reviews be slagged, I'll play it.
