Ready to discuss the best-selling manga of all time? Welcome aboard!

Some general stuff:
Sub fans:
* All the One Piece episodes (except for DBZ crossover) are available on Crunchyroll for free. (limited regions)
* You can also find the subbed episodes on FUNimation's website.

Dub fans:
* FUNimation has been (re)dubbing the show since 2007.
* So far, first 384 episodes (along with movie 8, Strong World and Film Z) have been dubbed in English.
* Season 7 (385-456) has now been licensed and 385-396 (Season 7 Voyage 1) will be out July 14.
* OP is also a part of Adult Swim's Toonami block. Currently airs at 2:30 a.m. on Saturdays (technically, Sunday).
* One Piece Broadcast dub is currently in talks, according to Josh Kocurek (FUNimation's brand manager for One Piece).

Manga readers:
* One Piece, along with other series, gets a simultaneous English release in VIZ's WSJump.
** The official version is translated by one of the best translators around, Stephen Paul. He is also a regular guest on the One Piece Podcast and talks about some behind the scenes translation stuff for the chapters.
** If you're interested, Stephen started working on OP from volume 65. He did work on one chapter for volume 64 for testing purposes.
** Alexis Kirsch is the current Editor for the English One Piece.
* Why do they still use Zolo? An annoying issue and VIZ is aware of it. However, there is some licensing issue behind the whole thing. It was Zolo even before 4Kids licensed it. However, FUNi somehow managed to get permission to use Zoro.
* Overall, Viz's translation is pretty good (Stephen's is definitely the best English translation that you can find).

Already a fan/new One Piece fan and want to support the series?
* For English fans... FUNimation is handling the series in North America, Manga UK in UK and Madman in Australia.
* If you haven't started buying the series yet, then:
** For anime people - Collection Treasure Chests (from FUNimation - 100+ episodes)
** For manga readers - Go for One Piece Box Sets (23 volumes per box set)

Please feel free to ask, if you have any questions.

Re: One Piece - Welcome to 'Thousand Sunny'

I'm actually just starting the pre-Skypeia stuff myself. I'm currently watching the Rumble Ball episode starring Chopper and Robin.

Re: One Piece - Welcome to 'Thousand Sunny'

I am done with the whole Eneru and the Bell thingy. Can't say I am happy with the way things ended.
The arc took more than 40 episodes and the ending wasn't satisfactory at all, referring to the way they got rid of him. Wholeheartedly disappointed.

Re: One Piece - Welcome to 'Thousand Sunny'

I dropped out somewhere during the Skypea arc. due to CN not airing the episodes any further, but I might start back at the Skypea arc. I originally had decided to start back at the Impel Down Arc. because I read the manga during that part a while back. I probably should backtrack and start at the Skypea arc. Plus I like watching the English Dub and if I watch steadily for a while I'll eventually catch-up.

Can't wait, probably gonna start back when I get home today. I guess I'll start when episode 175, "0% Survival Rate! Chopper Vs. Ohm, the Sword Wielding Priest!" since I vaguely remember that being the episode I last saw years ago.

Re: One Piece - Welcome to 'Thousand Sunny'

From what I heard, Skypiea isn't exactly the best arc. And I'm still stuck in Episode 156/Volume 27 until I get off my possibly two-month long hiatus...

Other than that, I really like the theme "We Are!", though I can't decide between which of the five versions is the best. My other favorites are "Brand New World" (which got me into the series), "One day", "Fight Together", and "We Go!". For the endings, I only heard "Memories" and "RUN! RUN! RUN!". Also, I find Luffy's theme "Wanted" quite hilarious and fits his character. Bink's Sake is pretty catchy too, I haven't had the chance to listen to the other themes (aside from the openings). Don't get me started on the instrumentals.

Re: One Piece - Welcome to 'Thousand Sunny'

I'm about to complete the G-8 arc (filler)... Without a doubt, it's one of the best filler arcs.

We Are! and Hikari e are so far one of my favorite OPs, I did not like the 2nd opening song "Believe". Currently, Bon Voyage is being used as the OP. Its Japanese version is MUCH better than FUNimation's. Other than that, I really like the FUNimation dub.

Fav. Endings: RUN! RUN! RUN! and Free Will (it's sooo relaxing... idk why)

Re: One Piece - Welcome to 'Thousand Sunny'

If 4kids's crappy version doesn't count, I only watched Impel Down and Marineford (Funimation has official subs)

I thought the show was painfully slow (compare DBZ), so I decided later to read the manga instead
And I love it. Its popularity and praise are well-deserved.

Re: One Piece - Welcome to 'Thousand Sunny'

Yeah, Dragon Ball's filler is quite the mixed bag. On one hand, there are some brilliantly-done filler episodes (mostly earlier on), but on the other... well, let's just say "five minutes" ISN'T that much of a stretch in the manga.

Anyways, I'm not sure how to feel about the Rainbow Mist filler arc. I like parts of it, but Chopper and Sanji went out in totally lame ways...

Re: One Piece - Welcome to 'Thousand Sunny'

I just recently caught up, and am now up to date on the anime! Just less than a week ago I "finished", I started somewhere in September, then stopped watching at all for almost two months (by then I was in the middle of the Alabasta arc), then went back to watching.

Now, I loved all the back stories that were given to the characters, but for me Nami's is the best by far. I'm glad they made HD special from it.

Re: One Piece - Welcome to 'Thousand Sunny'

I forgot to note about the movies.

So far, I've only seen Chopper's Kingdom on the Island of Strange Animals, The Cursed Holy Sword, Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island, The Giant Mechanical Soldier of Karakuri Castle, and Strong World. Most of them aren't exactly the best (or canon), but my particularly favorites are Baron Omatsuri and Strong World. (I'd add Z, but I haven't seen it yet. But judging from the trailers, it looked pretty epic. From what I heard, it's being released in several Asian countries, so I really hope they show it here too.)

Re: One Piece - Welcome to 'Thousand Sunny'

i'm still a newbie at one piece. i started to watch it last week end and i'm on ep 30 i think

Re: One Piece - Manga/Anime Discussion thread

Watching One Piece Film Z right now... So far, the movie looks better than Strong World, plot wise.
The scenes in the bar where Robin dances to some kind of classical music... That dance and her dress, in my opinion, she has never looked THIS beautiful before... <3

Oh, and this hot spring scene: (18+)
It's nice to see Zoro and Sanji 'getting along' once in a while :p

Re: One Piece - Manga/Anime Discussion thread

For those of you who are caught up in the manga, I was just wondering what your thoughts are on the current Dressrosa Arc. Personally, this is quickly becoming one of my favorite arcs in the series.

Doflamingo trolling the entire world with his fake resignation was awesome, and the tournament has introduced a lot of great characters like don Chinjao and Bartolomeo as well.

I think this is easily the best new world arc. Let me know what you think.

Re: One Piece - Manga/Anime Discussion thread

Dressrosa is definitely turning out to become a very great story arc. So far it's established a lot of its own plotlines which indicates that it could end up turning into a longer arc, maybe as long as Fishman Island. What's got me interested is all the characters that have been introduced into the tournament as well as the ones that have been reintroduced, another thing that kind of made me laugh was how popular/hated Luffy has actually become after the events in Marfineford and I sure hope he can get the Mera Mera no Mi back.

Really I guess I'm biased since the tournament is the only one of all the plotlines I'm looking forward to aside from the fight against Doflamingo.

Re: One Piece - Manga/Anime Discussion thread

I agree that it could easily turn into a 50+ chapter arc which is amazing because it is still a set up for the larger plot against Kaidou. The thing that interests me the most however is what exactly is Doflamingo's relationship with the WG and the void century as he was hinted to have strong ties to both. I love the whole mystery surrounding the void century and I think this arc will reveal some more info about it.

Re: One Piece - Manga/Anime Discussion thread

Yup... Dressrosa is turning out to be a great arc. I love how Oda is keeping everyone busy with their stuff. The Doflamingo family has real potential.
I am still waiting for BEPO! and Law's remaining crew to appear... It's been a while now

Re: One Piece - Manga/Anime Discussion thread

Today the new opening came out and it also has a 15th anniversary marker to honor the fact that the One Piece anime is 15 years old (while the manga is 17 years old).:-D:-D
