Tons of character debuts this time around, though not all of them were introduced in a way that make them appear important - yet.
The new villain Bellamy makes his debut, and though he sounds more rational in the dub than he should, he still comes across as one of the biggest assholes in the entire series (making his eventual defeat oh-so-satisfying).

Zoro's voice seems to be getting better.
Usopp's voice seems to be changing for the worse, though, but he wasn't in this episode a whole lot.

No eyecatcher or preview, though, what's up with that?

Notable cuts:
Most of the Bellamy/Roshio fight, where Bellamy cocks his gun, kicks Roshio, then fires several shots through him and the window (seen from outside the window) before kicking Roshio through.
Sarquiss licking his bloody knife after hacking down the guy in the bar to steal his seat (actual hacking is not shown in either version, though, but the bloody knife makes it obvious what had actually happened).
Zoro sticking his katana in Bellamy's face is in, but the shot of it from behind Zoro (where we actually see where it's pointing) is cut.

Though those might be cuts insisted by CN. Hopefully they are.

Though I have a question, if these pirates don't trust grand campuses what do they use to navigate the Grand Line?

Yeah, the TV broadcast version has cuts for violence insisted upon by CN. But the DVDs will have all of the footage uncut. As for the previews and eyecatches, it seems CN is being random with playing them.

This was a killer episode. Blackbeard's crew was great, and the argument between Blackbeard and Luffy was classic.

The highlight of the episode was surely the scene in the bar, it was very well handled.

Eh, I don't think Bellamy sounded mocking enough at the end of the episode. In the dub, he's mostly "haha, people actually believe that crap about Sky Island?", while originally he was more "People like you chasing stupid ass dreams like Sky Island are exactly what's wrong with the world today. You little shits were a complete waste of effort for me to care about, you're worthless little specks polluting the glory of piracy, and you utterly disgust me."

He needs to work on coming across as a bigger asshole, that's what made his defeat so satisfying.

Thanks for making this thread for me...I would have done it myself, but the Internet at my apartment decided to stop working Saturday night my time.

The stupid edits are disappointing...I mean, even though FUNi told us that they were going to edit punches to the face with flashes, it doesn't make it any better when we actually see it in action.

The Next Episode Preview was gone, but that's probably due to the fact that Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo's final episode ran late. I'm sure it'll be put back in place in future airings.

I've seen a lot of complaints about the number of edits to this episode and how CN is playing favorites with shows like Naruto. Here's something I found on Toon Zone that was originally posted on the Arlong Park forums:

re: CN being "unfair" to One Piece

Remember folks, One Piece has waaay more messy history to deal with. Children, and the parents who care, are used to One Piece being Y7 "child friendly." Stupid, but child friendly none the less. CN simply ripping that image out and replacing it with unedited TV-PG goodness is a double edged sword - please a lot of in-the-know fans (us), displease a lot of moms (and for the love, please let there be no insults or cracks made at the expense of these diligent parents who care what their child is watching).

I'm sure things WILL change, as they did with Naruto when it first showed up. For now we're stuck in family friendly limbo while the wide view of the show gradually shifts. And all things considered, it really doesn't sound like the edits made this week were all that bad. At least we have good voices and great writing.

You know, One Piece shows at 10pm my time on saturday night. Young children shouldn't be awake at that time, even on a saturday... move it to a TV-PG and treat the show like it should be treated is what I say.

That's the problem with the US and it's time zones, though. While it's 10 PM when you're watching it, it's 9 PM here, and 7 PM over in California, so Californian children will probably be awake at the time.

They have a west and east Cartoon Network, so there is no reason why California kids would be seeing it at 7pm unless they had hacked dishes.

for some reason, Dish Network and I think some other satellite providers only give us CN East here in California. Don't know why, but on the upside, Adult Swim can be seen a helluva lot earlier. ^^

Most children I know stay awake past ten on Saturdays... :P

I'm wondering...when they get around to redubbing old episodes, how many versions will be made? Will they just do uncut versions of those ones or will we have THREE different dubs of episodes 1-142?

They'll do what they're doing now...make an uncut dub and then just edit it from that.

And the thing is...4Kids skipped around 40 episodes. So there will be a LOT of new-to-the-US content in the FUNi releases.

FUNimation says they're not going to bother releasing any edited DVD's since the uncut versions always sell more.
