Does anyone download the scanlations, watch the subbed eps from kaizoku-fansubs, or watch the FoxBox "version"?

All information which is past the current English airing should be in spoiler tags.

i don't like the fact that they changed Zoro to Zolo i know about the l-r mixups with most anime, but this one was just bad

Most times in One Piece there will be (in the anime or manga or both) the name actually written out. Like "Franky House" is written, so you know it's not "Flanky" ^^;

Luffy's dub makes my ears bleed. But I can forgive that because then opening is a CHEESY RAP SONG. <3

Maybe it's Zolo because Zoro might sound too close to copyright infringement?

To what? Zorro is a legendary name. That's like saying "Robin Hood" is copyright infringement, no?

Also, I just read the latest manga chapter, 345. Unfuckingbelievable

Yeah, I just noticed that too. Guess they figured since the anime of it had his name that way, the manga should as well.

Personally, I have no issue with it. I think it's great, and Luffy is adorable as ever (there's nothing wrong with his voice; He's supposed to sound innocent...).

And I think that "Zolo" sounds a whole lot cooler than "Zoro" ever did.....

yeah but Zoro makes it sound more like a swordsmany name!
*Glomps ninjas with Lady Shinsei* :-)

:Bump:

Anyone else? :O

I bought the first 20 volumes from Sasuga Books, they'll be here in a few weeks ^^

Enjoy it. It's fantastic. ^_^

The 20 volumes are here, I'm way too excited about it.

:opens up Breen dictionary: let's roll >D

They kept Arlong's name - good
They'll butcher this arc - bad

Yeah, I'm happy they kept Arlong's name too (It would be incredibly crappy if he was called Allong, Alrong, and Arrong, lol what a cheesey pun: Alrong is All wrong)

I still don't get Zoro's name chance, my bro told me it was probably because of copyright issues, but I still say BS to that.

The CD with my copy of Episode 81
(where they meet Dr. Kureha)
messed up halfway through, so I'm having to "reaquire" that episode again. So my watching of One Piece is being postponed until that finishes up.

The name change was done to avoid potential lawsuits. You know that if they had left it as-is, SOMEONE along the way would have tried to sue 4Kids for producing a show featuring a swordsman named Zoro, regardless of how little he actually resembles Zorro.

And besides, changing one letter (which isn't *really* a change, since r's and l's are interchangable in Japanese) in his name is no big deal. Just be thankful they didn't call him "Bob" or something like that.

Double post!

I should be able to resume my watching of the Alabasta Arc either sometime tonight or tomorrow.

So anyway, the Arlong arc started on 4Kids TV today. I didn't get to see it (I don't get 4Kids TV here at college) but from what I've heard, all the mermen have this weird effect added to all of their voices.

And while I'm talking about the dub, the dubbed version begins its run on Cartoon Network's Toonami starting this week, airing from 10:00pm until 11:00pm. They'll be doing two episodes a week for the forseeable future.

I saw what I guess were the first two episodes in the series last night on Toonami. It was insane. I love it.

The Arlong Arc is currently airing on 4Kids TV, and today was the two-episode flashback to Nami's past.

Or rather, the whithering husk of what used to be the two-episode flashback to Nami's past.

Basically, 4Kids combined the two episodes into one. Genzo and the doctor's plan to escape by ship, and then having that plan fail when the Mermen sink their ships was completely cut. We get the typical Marine --> Navy shit, and the Mermen's overuse of the term "Pewmans" (Pee-yew + humans) as well.

But the biggest change was Bellemere's death. In the original, she gets her arm crushed by Arlong's foot, and then eventually gets shot. In the dub, her hand doesn't get hurt at all, and then Arlong points his finger at her (instead of his gun) and tells her that she'll go to his dungeon for the rest of his life. Then, when Nami is being carried away by the Mermen, 4Kids edits in scenes of Bellemere from earlier in the episode to give the impression that she's still alive.

And, of course, throughout the entire episode, the terrible voice acting and constantly shifting music ruined any emotion the original may have had.

I had always tried to stay away from joining the "the One Piece dub sucks!" bandwagon. But after this episode, I've lost all hope for it. I'm just going to wait for the uncut DVD's and hope that they don't botch THAT up too much.

Oh. My. God.

Sorry you had to put up with that =/

If it makes you feel any better, the manga chapter that was released on wednesday is fantastic, entitled "Sogekingu"
