He’s not really in love with Misa. Light closes his eyes and repeats this mantra in his head, over and over, because he is Kira and Kira does not do love. Just because they live together and sleep together means nothing. She’s a useful tool and he likes keeping her close. It is self-preservation and nothing else.
Misa smiles at him from the bed as she writes in her Death Note, her Shinigami eyes faintly red. Ryuk chortles and munches on an apple from behind her back. She’s wearing a new negligee, kind of a peach color this time, and he quashes his emotions because it’s just lust. Her hair is pretty and blonde and soft, and he likes running his hands through it. She has cute breasts too, all natural, unlike some girls he could name. Her body is his, and she doesn’t mind him using it.
All he has to do is say ‘I love you’.
Misa knows that Light doesn’t really love her, but she can keep on pretending. Light is nice, and he’s Kira, and he did save her and avenge her parent’s murders. Besides, sometimes, when she catches him looking at her, she thinks that maybe Light is too scared to admit he’s in love. That’s all right. Misa is patient.
Ryuk thinks humans are silly.

Considering the number of crack shippings out there, I’m rather surprised that no one actually made it a theme. Perhaps it was too obvious? I would like to point out that although Light x Misa is canon, the way it’s treated you’d think it was crack! Damned *rabid* L x Light fans…
