A few months ago, I came across a (japanese) website that had the entirety of Toshihiro One's Myutsuu no Gyakushuu manga adaptation script typed up.
(http://syabadaba.hp.infoseek.co.jp/dengeki1-1.html ) The site seems to be down now, and I didn't think to save my babelfish/Googletranslate results.

While I have the images, I 'm definitely not able to translate 'em! Therefore, If anyone happnened to back up any part of this website, or to save anything from it, I'd be grateful to hear about it. Moreso...if anyone feels like giving me a rough, rough, very rough translation,or referring me to someone who might, I'd be more than happy to edit and produce a scanslation.

also...
A) does anyone know where I can purchase backissues of CoroCoro Comic Magazine?
B) Does anyone know where I can purchase the 'mini release' of this book? I know it wasn't included in any of the tankubon.

Ono did write the manga, but it preceded the creation of "Myutsuu to ai", the mini-film. It was a twenty-five page manga story which ran two issues in Coro Coro Comic Magazine and was (I believe) published as a single issue book. It focused on Doctor Fuji's relationship with Mew, and Mewtwo's relationship with Fuji. I had it roughly translated (and lost that translation...darn it!) but basically, we see Mewtwo's challenge to the trainers (delivered in person at a tournament, rather than through dragonite-air-mail) and their departure from the dock. Then, we cut to New Island, where Joy is monitering Mewtwo's health. He goes to sleep, and we see, in flashback, Sakaki and Fuji, the mission to find Mew, and Mewtwo's creation. Instead of destroying the lab in a fit of rage and (presumably) killing all the scientists, Mewtwo goes into training with Sakaki, and Fuji remains to care for him. Fuji is apalled by Sakaki's lack of respect for his creation, and his plans to create an army, and begs Mewtwo to destroy the facilities, and therefore all traces of the experiment. Fuji plans to die in the process. At first, Mewtwo refuses, saying that he cannot kill his "father". Fuji does talk him into it, telling him to think of his unborn siblings, and after a teary moment, the base goes kablooie. Then we cut back to New island and the present, where dull eyed Joy stands over the sleeping, weeping Mewtwo.

I like it, myself, as it's such a departure from any of the other interpretations. Mewtwo is really, really ugly, and somehow, Mew is, too. But Fuji looks good, and we get to see Mewtwo in armoured ski boots...XD

If anyone has a kanji enabled keyboard and would just copy it out for me, I think I could J-to-E it somewhere...

Hm. Interesting.

Could we persuade you to post the scans here? Or give us a link?

I had a link, but it no longer works. Here, I'll post the pages for you. For some reason, the page started numbering them at 12.

This is where the infamous "Joker-Giovanni" pictures come from. (does that mean that Domino is Harley Quinn? Because that would rock)

I'd love to see the rest of this sometime. Or further adaptations by Ono.

Anyone know, on a semi-unrelated note, if there's any adaptation for the second movie? I have one for the third and fourth, and I know there's one for the fifth (*kicks herself for not buying that issue when she had the chance*), but I haven't seen one for 2 or 6.

A lot was changed for the manga, or, rather, a lot was changed for the film. Ono's comic predates "Myutsuu to Ai", so the story really departs from the canon version.
It's a departure from the movie, anyway, giving Fuji and Mewtwo a parent-child relationship instead of one blowing the other up..heh heh...

The Misty design is the version Ono began working in after the second volume. Check out the Pikachu-runs-away issue, where her new look is introduced.

Blackjack, thanks for the pics.
Thanks very much!
I'm changing my mind about you. You're cool.

PS: Sorry for mistaking you with a man :)

Third and fourth? I'd be interested in seeing those.

I know that a Jirachi manga was made - in fact, that was supposed to be my site's "September Manga of the Month" (which I haven't, for various reasons, finished yet). I should hopefully have that done by the end of the weekend.

From the looks of things, the Myuutwo adaptation was released in the August 1998 issue of CoroCoro. Blackjack, can you confirm this? And does anyone know where one can buy back-issues of CoroCoro?

I can't confirm anything, as I lifted these off a Japanese site that isn't up any more. At least the link to where the scans were no longer works.

The fourth is where the picture of Bishasu punching Ash across the face comes from. I'll try to find one of those and scan it later.

Wasn't there a manga adaptation of the Jirachi movie that showed Butler with a handgun? I remember Murg or someone posting a scan from it back when the Jirachi movie was just coming out in Japan. It's not from the Jirachi movie manga that I have, but I'm pretty sure that I'm not making this up.

I think the comic may have actually run in May, 1998, though I can't get a confimation on that. I've been unable to find backissues for sale online, though I suspect it wouldn't be too hard to find a used manga retailor IN Japan. These things are so common and throw-out-able, it may be a real hunt to find one.

Actually, it is really difficult to find back issues in Japan; believe me, I've looked.

It's really like trying to find a phone book from five years ago...I mean, you *might* be able to find it, but it won't be easy.

How apt, considering that CoroCoro is larger than any phone directory I've ever seen.

True, but the Japanese comic industry is much more disposable than, say, the American comic industry. Over there, people throw away their manga anthologies the way we throw away TV Guides, while in the U.S. people strive to keep their comics in "mint condition" so that they'll be worth something one day.

Well, the US industry was stunted in a way the Japanese never was, too. the big "Seduction of Innocents" scare, coupled with the birth of the comics code basically locked American (and many Canadian) comics into a perpetual adolescence that still hasn't been fully "outgrown".

In Japan, war and tragedy were what tried to crush the manga industry (er...among other things...), but it flourished and grew in adversity, rather than retreating or buckling. This allowed it to mature and diversify in a way that US comics didn't. Manga isn't a ghetto art there, either. It's THE mainstream form of entertainment. "Contemporary visual culture".

*waves a copy of her first book around* Go Indy Publishers!!

For this particular thing, the problem seems to be that it wasn't collected into a tankubon volume (that I've come across) so it has just faded into obscurity. It's frusterating that the webpage went down and that I didnt think to save my translation. GeneChild offered to translate, but found these scans too blurry to use. Argh, argh, argh.

Thanks to whoever found/ressurected this topic by the way.
