I know that maybe this might not be the place to put this here, but I want to express my opinion and thoughts about this game. I think it'll be amazing. Despite the fact that I'm quite attached to this forum and my love for pokemon is skyhigh, I'm not one of types who criticize remakes of old games, because it won't be "as good" as the previous ones. I have played GSC (All of them), and they're awesome. And I have no doubt that HG & SS will impress me, because when it comes to pokemon, it's not very hard to impress me. I like how Game Freak is recreating the old games from 10 years ago and making it new. I defenitely want to travel through Johto and Kanto, fight the gym leaders again, catch new pokemon again, and of course, beat the crap out of Red. Plus, I'm already loving the BGM they remixed. The Goldenrod City and Dragon's Den remixes are my favorites (So Far). I absolutely cannot wait for this game, and I definitely want to use the POKEWALKER! Hopefully they'll sell it in the US.

Graphically its top of the line. Story wise its just as good as GSC.

Some of the minor things... eh, not really important.

I wrote a long blog entry (Not here) about this, but I'll just make a tl;dr variant.

Crystal looking and sounding pretty, with expected add-ons and changes, fleshed out plot, and fluff, alongside with some egregious tacked on features. Didn't improve on the originals as much as it could have. Johto still plays second fiddle, except now not only to Kanto. Kanto doesn't sucks anymore.

Good game, but very far from the best ever, lol. It doesn't replaces Platinum either.

It's mostly unneeded, save for the fact that it allows easy access to many pokémon for the 4th gen games. Specifically past starters and legendaries (There's now no need to Pal Park any Pokémon.)

However, despite being superfluous, it's pretty well done. Kanto doesn't suck anymore at least. Perhaps I'll be able to train some guys I've been meaning to train for a very long time now.

My opinion is;

It's well done. Some nits and picks here and there but overall it's impressed me.
Johto had always been my favorite region and I'm glad it's been remastered here. Also; No, not because of nostalgia, but because it had a certain charm to it, as well as its heavily eastern/asian themed locations which I enjoyed - no other region had that.

Kanto's nice too, and stuff. :V

Most likely it's going to replace Platinum for me.

Although I despise Johto and think of GSC as overrated by most of the fandom, I have to say that HGSS are good games that look awesome and they stick to the formula of well done remakes.

Sadly, even with the new features and aesthetic changes they didn't impress enough to switch my main version, which currently is Platinum, as this game is so well suited for training Pokémon even without full touch screen controls with things like the Pokétch, Vs. Seeker and the Battleground. Nonetheless, HGSS introduced new Move Tutors, egg and level-up moves which I find pretty useful (Muddy Water is finally widespread!; I love 2-on-2 battles) and thus they still serve an additional purpose for my causes. You can also buy TMs that were one-time-per-save file obtainable in DPt, and via Pick Up you can now find PP Max and Grass Knot.
About the music, the Johto and Kanto Gym Leader remixes, as well as the Rival and Shinto Ruins theme were the best in my oppinion. I still don't like what they did with the Battle! Ancient Pokémon theme of RSE but I guess the actual issue is with the DS sound hardware and not the music itself. Overall, I continue to esteem highly the RSE music than any other Generation.

There were some additional things I wanted for those games, none of which were included by Game Freak in the final product. I don't see any point in mentioning them again, so my final stand about HGSS is that they are a fresh addition to the current Generation, and anybody who liked the Generation II versions will find outstanding remakes in these games. There aren't many changes from Platinum, but having more crisp graphics and details as well as touch screen controls add more points to the experience. Additional moves on some Pokémon and new ways to get items will be appreciated by people who already have DPt and train for competitive reasons. Anybody who doesn't have GBA games will enjoy being able to catch and/or get the Legendary and starter Pokémon that were exclusive to Pal Park before. And after some thinking, the PokéGear isn't that tedious to use.

I think it's a nice jumping off point for Gen V. They wouldn't want to add a whole lot of changes to a new series right off the bat, so they add some to a remake that has familiarity. When some of these changes turn up in the next gen, it won't be a shock to anyone, and the games will sell.

I think HG/SS are excellent remakes, excellent remixed music, and I am loving every second of my Japanese copy of the game.

I think they are good games, but are not perfect or the best. As Orion said, GF could of improved on them more and it also doesn't replace Platinum for me. Then again, I'm probably biased since I thought GSC were pretty bad. It's much better than the originals and the graphics are fresh, it's nice to see Kanto again and the eastern feel of Johto. The gameplay is pretty good as well.

Story-wise, not so much. I wasn't a big fan of Team Rocket rising back and end up being disbanded again by kid story. I liked the Ho-Oh story a lot, but it was very vague and brief. I was hoping it would expand on that, oh well. Plot-wise, I prefer DPPT over HGSS. Overall, Platinum and HGSS are about equal.

How? I doubt they could've done any better, graphics not really being an option, and the new extra features are shaping up to seem actually quite cool! But meh, opinions, opinions, opinions.

They're the first games where I've been on this forum during their release, which was pretty exciting. I'd come back and check new info every few hours. Can't wait for the next games!

I think they are good, as they have no battires, but i dislike some of the remixes (prefer the 8 bit versions) and also, i also like the improved graphics.
