I was wondering where everyone stood on the subject of cheating. Everyone knows about gamesharks and all that. I'm just wondering: Does anyone see anything wrong with cheating to get the various tickets (in RSE) to obtain the legendary pokemon?

Since I'm not actually cheating to catch the pokemon in question, I don't see anything wrong with doing this. But hey, it may be taboo around here, I don't know. I think it's pretty dumb that it's now impossible for me to obtain a lot of the legendaries from RSE because I either missed the nintendo event or was never close enough to one.

Thoughts?

I think that it's okay to get legendaries through cheating devices
since a lot of tournaments won't accept legendaries.

It's their game, they are not doing any hyarm to me, why should I care really. And before anyone says wifi battles, half the people who did admit that they were gonna hack for perfect IV pokemon didnt even seem to know how to create a usable moveset so I doubt that they are that much of a threat.

I beleive using such a device to aquire tickets is justified simply because Nintendo didn't do much (here in the UK anyway.)

I don't see anything wrong with cheating on video games, unless you're cheating to give yourself an unfair advantage against the opponent. I don't usually like to cheat on games (not as fulfilling) but once I used a friend's gameshark on my Ruby version, and I didn't lose any sleep over it.

But it's up to the individual. Some people feel that it's wrong to play the game or obtain legendaries any way besides the one Nintendo intended, and others feel it's justified because (like some people have already said) Nintendo didn't make it easy for them to obtain certain pokemon and items.

Am I the only one here who thinks it's wrong no matter what?

I'm completly against any forms of cheating. I ether get my Pokemon the fair way or no way at all.

Yes, that includes hacked tickets.

I don't mind as long as the end result is legal. So yes, sharking for events/good IVs on Pokémon is fine with me. Also, they need to be as legit as possible; not some 2 year old codes.

Just because I'm not against it, doesnt mean that I do it either. I just hate the people who are against these things and start bashing the hackers for hacking. Why should we look down on them when they are not doing any damage to us?

It really amazes me how there are 7 replies and no one went around bashing the thread starter, you dont get this in a certain other forum I go to.

I dont hate people for cheating, but I only dislike it if they cheat and they use those cheated pokemon in online play or if they brag about how they got more pokemon than me even though they cheated to get them.

I guess I'd be annoyed if someone beat me with a
Pokemon with 999 to all stats and an unnatural moveset.

In-game cheating is fine as long as you don't care about cheating yourself, but online cheating is just plain stupid. If you have to cheat just to beat someone, I'd have to say you're just plain pathetic.

Keroppi: I think I avoided getting bashed because of the way I phrased the question. I took a completely neutral position, asking someone ELSE to justify an action which I have not yet taken.

Anyway, I wouldn't cheat to get perfect IVs, to capture multiple legendaries, to duplicate masterballs, or to get pokemon that are hard or impossible to attain in one version. I'm only planning on cheating to get the appropriate tickets so I can legitimately catch, most likely with an Ultra Ball, a Mew, Deoxys, and the other Lati@s.

I'm happy to see most people seem the think this is all right.

My opinion on cheating is that I don't believe in it. If someone wants to do it to their own game, that's their own decision... they'll learn that cheating takes a lot of fun away from Pokemon. I believe though that if they battle someone with cheated pokemon, that's wrong. And it's even more wrong to put cheated pokemon up on the gts when people expect legit pokemon, and it's also wrong to trade one-on-one with people who expect the real deal. That's just my thoughts on cheating.

Indeed. As I have stated, what someone does with their own game is up to them. That's the beauty of owning your own property... you should be able to do with it as you please. If you hack your game and don't harm others, be my guest. If you want to hack your game to get things that were given away and you were never able to get it yourself, more power to you.

I do not like when people cheat to have higher stats and such, but I think it's ok to get some Pokémon by cheating (I used the Mew glitch at Green version). Since Nintendo makes it too hard to get certain pkmn, almost impossible, I think the cheats are ok. To have Deoxys (or another pkmn, I don't remember) you must have a limited edition of pkmn Colloseum. A limited edtition that is not sold any more. Jirachi is easier to get, just buy pkmn Channel. Lugia and Houhou in colloseum and gale of darkness ( i think). Mew and Celebe, I don't know. I don't know any cheats for them either (except game shark). An Celebe in Crystal is not availabe in the US version, so they can cheat if they want, since there is no other way.

Seeing as most places I go to now, some people consider the GTS clone glitch a cheating device. What are your guys' opinion on this?

Some legendaries are obtained differently depending on region. In the US, Mew, Celebi, and Deoxys were obtainable by going to some event (notice that the three of them have the very last entry for each region's Pokedex), usually Journey Across America or some kind of event like that. Jirachi was obtained through a Pokémon Colosseum bonus disc that you get by pre-ordering Pokémon Colosseum. Ho-oh is legally obtainable in Pokémon Colosseum by purifying all of the Shadow Pokémon and then completing the Battle Mode's 100 Trainer Battle Mode using a team from Story Mode, and Lugia is also legally obtainable in Pokémon XD for obvious reasons. You can also get a legitimate Mystic Ticket from JAA which takes you to Naval Island in FR/LG/E where you can catch Ho-oh and Lugia. The Eon Ticket is also obtained legitimately through several different methods. As for Japanese and European events, I don't know much. If anyone wants to expand upon this, go right ahead.
