Opposite-colored mascots - a new trend?

As we should all know, Pokémon Black and White are the first games to feature opposite-colored mascots; Reshiram is white but is the mascot of Black, and Zekrom is black but is the mascot of White.

I was wondering, does anyone think this trend will continue in a later generation? For example, if the main Gen VI games were called Orange and Purple, would the mascot of Orange be colored purple and the mascot of Purple be colored orange?

The purpose of this was the thematic representation of being opposite colours. I doubt this is going to continue unless thematically relevant.

Maybe! If I get used to it. I got White the day it came out and since I have Zekrom, I keep wanting to say I play Black. I kind of liked the idea with gen 5, I hope they do it again!

I liked this feature, but I'm sceptical about that becoming tradition. That was only because of Yin/Yang theme of B/W.

No, it will not be a new trend. It was just kinda cool for BW. They probably won't touch it again for a while.

I don't really think it would work in other versions - ones that could possibly be based on bright colours. Something about having a bright orange background on the front of a DS box with the game mascot being bright purple doesn't seem right - it seems to bright and too much of a contrast for a Pokémon game. It worked nicely with Black and White, though, because those are colours that people are used to seeing together, next to each other, and it actually means something (the whole Yin/Yang theme, as mentioned).

The reason for the opposite mascot thing is that a completely white Pokemon against a completely white background and the opposite just isn't aesthitically pleasing.

As far as I know, I don't see any trend to begin with. For there to be a trend, it must be three generations long. We only have one.

I don't think this "trend" will repeat in the next generation. This "opposite-colored mascot theme" is reserved for the fifth generation. That's just my thinking.

That's a lame excuse considering the backgrounds have never been a single solid colour. Take the predominantly orange Charizard on the orange background or the mostly green except for some yellow Rayquaza on the green background for example. The opposite colours were for thematic reasons. That special artwork in which Reshiram and Zekrom's tails glow and cause part of their body to reflect the colour has much more differentiation in colour than Rayquaza would.
