Pretty interesting. I've only saw a picture of it. Pretty interesting, showing a Pokemon that could've been (I don't remember seeing any of those clips in the actual movie, US or Japan). Worth a look.

To give credit where its due, I found this looking around the Shipping Pictures thread:

A personal thanks to ii kanji for this.

I'll always wonder what in the world the intent with the "future Misty" scenario was. XDDDD Something they had planned for the movie or something they felt like plugging in just because?

That second cloud looks pretty "Gold and Silver beta"-ish. I wonder if that thing ended up being devloped into an actual Pokémon.

Also, TRio on a warship is awesome.

And to think, Pokeshipping could have become canon if they had gone this route...

Anyways, yeah, I've seen it. I'm actually wondering if it would have been better for them to go this route.

The explanation on the vid actually makes sense!
Think about if the anime did end.
I wish Tajiri would comment on this trailer.

If only..... If only.

I'm wondering who that other girl was next to Misty... Dawn?

It looked like that lady from the harbor, with the accent.

God, I really wish they would have stuck to their original plan and ended the anime after Movie1. The series really jumped the shark when they reached Johto.

But what role did she play? Did she even have a name?

Her name was Miranda.

Keep in mind, this is a very early trailer. It's entirely possible that when they released this, the original plot for the first movie was something completely different from what was eventually released, and this character might have played a different role altogether. Maybe she was originally going to be Misty's mother or something.

Pokemon obviously became too popular when it started, why would they end it after one season?

They even rushed through Kanto that they had to create Orange Islands simply to buy time till GS came out.

This makes it look like "Pokémon" was going to be another one of those anime series that stays primarily lighthearted throughout most of its run, then suddenly does a 180 and turns all dark and gritty and dramatic at its finale. I'm sure that 1% of the fanbase who wants an adult-centric spinoff would have been thrilled.

How far in advance of the movie was this trailer released? The movie itself came out in July 1998, a little more than one year after the show's April 1997 premiere. People say this trailer makes it look like the movie was originally going to be the series finale (and they're right, it does), but how far in advance did the producers realize that Pokémon was a hit and would be around for a long time? I know the Gold and Silver video games were being talked about as early as 1997, but they missed their release date that year - was there ever a point when it looked like they'd abandon the franchise?

The show was on hiatus from January to April 1998 thanks to the Porygon thing, and there was apparently talk of cancelling the show - was this early version of the movie prepared as a result of that possibility? There's quite a bit of anime history there that I don't think has ever been discussed.

Just because the trailer has footage that wasn't used in the movie doesn't mean there was an alternate movie. I know for a fact the second and third movie trailers featured scenes that weren't in the final cuts. I can't recall, but other movies might have done so as well.

The trailer in question advertises the movie as hitting theaters in July. So the trailer had to have come out in late 1997 or early 1998.

In any case, I love how everyone automatically assumes the girl is Misty's daughter when there's nothing in the video that proves that.

Yeah. Of the top of my head I can think of Mewtwo in a Movie 3 trailer and Ash riding a Pigeot in a movie 10 trailer.

Wait, where are the 'could have been Pokemon'?
The second cloud that appears above Misty's, Miranda's and the little girl's heads... between Pikachu and Jigglypuff.

From that interview WPM did, the guy said the show was never in danger of being canceled because of the Porygon incident.

Although its funny to think of how different the anime would be if they didn't miss out on that 4 months. Kanto could have been about 20 episodes longer, or Orange Islands could have been 20 episodes longer.

We lost a potential 20 episodes during the Kanto/Orange era because of that gap of 4 months.

All I can really 'say' is:

ಠ_ಠ

I don't honestly believe the whole "it's misty/ash's kid" but... whoa... difference. It is weird to see something so different than what happened. Huh.
