After a week of breathless waiting and suspense, the new Mega Evolution of everyone's friend Malamar has been officially unveiled in a special cinematic reveal trailer released via Pokémon's various official YouTube channels. Sadly, the trailer was marred by the inclusion of slanderous claims that the outpouring of love for Malamar over the past week was due to the Pokémon's hypnotic capabilities, rather than the true heartfelt feelings of Pokémon fans the world over.

You can see Mega Malamar in all its glory in the video below!

A second video released roughly 15 minutes after the initial announcement shows additional in-game footage of Mega Malamar in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. I'm sure you're all as envious as I am about how many Malamar friends the trainer shown here has!

Mega Malamar
Malamar’s brain has become enlarged as a result of Mega Evolution. Greatly enhanced psychic power overflows from its body, emitting a bright glow. This vividly colored light further amplifies the Pokémon’s hypnotic abilities, allowing it to freely overwrite the personalities or even memories of others—a terrifying power that can make someone seem like an entirely different person.

Its glowing, undulating tendrils are able to pick up on the feelings of those around it. It prefers battling with efficiency, using its powerful intellect to analyze the situation with levelheadedness as it fights. Mega Malamar views others—even Pokémon Trainers—as its pawns. If it disagrees with an order given to it by a Trainer, it will sometimes respond by hypnotizing them, making this an incredibly difficult Pokémon to interact with.

It appears that Mega Malamar has recently been spotted using its hypnotic abilities on citizens of Lumiose City, creating the boom in popularity for the Pokémon recently observed in a special video and across the Pokémon social media channels. For a special report investigating the truth behind Mega Malamar’s recent activities in Lumiose City, please visit the official Pokémon YouTube channel.

Trying to steal the show from Malamar, Nintendo also announced a new Nintendo Direct presentation via their Nintendo Today app. The Nintendo Direct will air on their official YouTube channels, this Friday September 12th at 6:00am (PDT) / 1:00pm (UTC) / 10:00pm (JST). But unless they're going to surprise us with an announcement that their new company mascot will be Malamar-io, that presentation probably won't include Malamar, so there won't be much point in watching.

To be honest, I love how they did this reveal. I think that they realized most people don't really think about Malamar on a regular basis, or that it might get a "really? you chose to give a Mega to Malamar?" reaction. So they did a week where the whole Bit is saying that everyone loves Malamar. That way, it was at the forefront of our minds for the Mega Evolution reveal.

Shame on them! Trying to drag Malamar's name through the mud!
I think this is one of the most fun "event" they've ever done. Malamar is definitely not on the forefront of everyone's mind so starting, what grew into a fandom sized RP to hype up the reveal for days, was incredibly fun, and will likely leave a lasting impression!
