I'm interested in setting up my own Pokemon series similar to the one on tv. Ayone interested or am I in the wrong place

We have three characters similar to Brock, Ash and Dawn (May or Misty) who have same or similar aims and go around catching pokemon to meet their aims

But why write about OCs that mimic canon characters? Why not write about the canon characters?
