It is has become increasing clear that Poke'mon such as Yanmega and Blissey are being constantly used in Wi-Fi Battles around the world. This isvery annyoing as 9/10 times you'll end fighting a Yanmega that can be killed in one shot and is pritty pointless, i find it boring using the same team and fighting the same pokemon. Come on Guys mix up a little use magikarp or something :)

There's more Legendaries are just used even more, i have had to fight atleast 4 full teams of legendaries in one week. It's ok to use maybe 1 or 2 in your team but 6? Come on! Anyone else agree? :bash:

Well there IS a reason that theyre in the OU teir on smogon :p
I detest using legendaries.

I have EV trained a infernape to defeat Yanmega. It knows Blaze kick, Slack off, Feint, and Close combat. Feint is for detect which is usually predicted first turn. May i ask what OU means?

It's because Yanmega is easily countered, with a 4x weakness to stealth rock.
These people with a team of 6 Legendaries are either "Ubers" players, or "twats".

(They probably have a Wonder Guard Spiritomb, too)

theres nothing wrong with using ubers as long as your fighting a team full of ubers :)

i particularly dont like cresselia and latias, i dont think they should be ubers :/

Heheh, I see what you mean there. It seems even Pokemon is not immune to group-think. It's basically like fighting games. When a new one comes out, a few people will start playing. Soon they'll get used to a particular character (usually one who's easy to combo with and has good attacking power and techniques), then other people who soon play the game would use those characters too. Pretty soon, when the game's already gained some popularity, you have a whole boatload of people who play the game, but the characters being used? With a game that has around maybe 50 characters selectable, around less than 10 (or sometimes less than 5) would be used by the whole population of players.

It's this kind of mentality, where people don't wanna try someone new, that made me set a rule for myself to always learn how to use anybody in any game I play, to the best of my efforts. This rule also carries over to my Pokemon playing, where I make sure that everyone has a chance in my team, even if its just for support roles (if the Pokemon really wasn't built for fighting).

As for using a lot of/nothing but legendaries in the team, well that just sucks. It reeks of noob through and through. I don't care if some legendaries have lower stats than others, I still always make sure to inform firsthand my opponent if I wanna use some in my team (which is pretty rare), so he can also carry an equal amount. I also expect my opponent to do the same for me when he carries legendaries. I think it's only fair, and honorable in battle. (Yeah, I still swing that way, heheh...)

Looks like i have raised a series issue. All poke'mon deserve a chance i've seen a amazing baton pass stragey to magikarp and it just sweeps but suicune using calm, you get this in every other game. I geuss some people are playing for easy wins and some are playing for fun thats the diffrence.

I agree.

I think it's just sad when people can't come up with unique teams. See, when I watch battles, I always see Lucario, Garchomp, Milotic, Blissey... crap like that. Yeah, they're good, but they're just boring o_o.

When I battle, I use Pokémon that aren't... really... overused. For example, when I battle someone, I use " crappy " Pokémon like Tangrowth, Mothim, Wormadam, Delcatty, etc.

It is a bit of a shame when there isn't much uniqeuness in teams anymore and your team can easily pick off the others.

I personally find it a bit disgraceful to pick and choose Pokèmon off of a tier list, unless you're going for the less common ones. Otherwise, picking Pokèmon that have become so common on teams to the point of having huge populations of them is just old.

Though I never expected a Pokèmon like Blissey to be that common. Must be the HP.

I have to disagree with you saying Tanglegrowth is crap it has a good spc.Attk and EV trained it Sp.Attk can result in a good amount of damage, And i use baton pass with Ninjask to help that. You might say Ninjask is over used, yes it is, but i dont put it on a Garchomp, or Samalance i put it on tangrowth. I think it's important to use your own stragey. And i rarely use ninjask and Tangrowth together, and i do double battles so i don't tend to realy on baton passing. I use a shuckle with accupressure and toxic and then attempt to build up a sweeper :)

Yes, definitely. A lot of trainers nowadays are too scared to take risks. All they care about now is the win. Where's the thrill of winning if you very well know that about fifty other guys use the same Pokemon and tactics as you? I'd prefer a win that happened unexpectedly, with a team that that voice in your head kept saying was going to lose.

Also, using an unexpected team gives you an edge, too. An opponent expects to fight this, but gets that and laughs. You, however, have the advantage of knowing what his same-old team might do, but he has little to no idea what the heck you'll be doing with a team like that.

Who's laughing now?

Hmm, this seems to be a good place to post this idea:
I really want to get a Tournament up, in which competitors can only use Pokémon that can evolve, but are the first stage of their respective families. I hope people are interested ^_^

And people want to do well, so they pick the best Pokémon. Although winning with lesser used Pokémon is more satisfying. I use everything from Garchomp to Gardevoir.

You can arrange something like that. Set up a Social Group in this forum for the purpose, and send an invite to anyone who asks to join. That way, you'll know that like-minded people will be competing.

That's a genius tactic. Out of curiosity, does anyone here commonly use a Pinsir or see one often on people's teams? I have grown to like them, and I do think having Padro go up against a Metagross would be a true testament to his abilities (Mold Breaker is one).

But, while going up against a person who has a common team with your unexpected team, if you have a Pokèmon that has a move that causes it to be announced as having that move or something, like the above-mentioned Mold Breaker, then don't they usually have someone on their team to counter it?

Perhaps, but not always. For one, Mold Breaker is only available with the Cranidos evo family and Pinsir, so it's pretty pointless to set up a counter that works well only with 2 Pokemon out of 493. I think you can rest assured that your Pinsir would stand a chance. My cousin trained a Pinsir, and even I was toying with the idea of putting it in one of my teams (though I personally like Heracross better, so I may train it first). It seems formidable enough.

That does make sense. Standing for the masses seems to be more beneficial than catering to counter a tiny decimal percentage of the entire Pokèmon list. Well, if my little brother gets Wi-Fi, maybe we'll try some online competitive battling.
