Sinnoh shocked the hell out of me when they made Dawn lose in the appeals twice.

It also shocked the hell out of me when she beat May, although I was happy for her.

With that said, how did you like Dawn's journey?

I often feel like people don't give her much credit.

All her battles were done nicely, IMO.

I know people weren't feeling her rivals(excluding myself), but the battles were good.

My least favorite was Ambipom vs Prinplup, simply because it felt forced and rushed to give Kenny a win.

I did enjoy all of Dawn's others, and it was nice that they made Dawn human.

Dawn does have a great contest arc.

Combusken, Drew, and Harley weren't going to be around for every contest to come, since that seems like the only reason people liked May's, IMO.

It is often said that the clousure is the most important part of a story.

Therefore,I would prefer to wait until the GF to comment on her "journey",I do have enjoyed it thus far, throught.

PS: Aside from all that...fanservic-y stuff you nammed, what I liked about May´s joruney were the COTD,they made each contest interesting and different to me.

It was ok.
Some times I felt the writers/producers gave her cheat wins.
I mean, she was bad in the begining than randomly went hey I'm a champ?
Yah, her rivals were not my favorite this series.
Though, some battles were pretty good here and there.
The random contest characters were strange, one I thought was either Kenny's sister or female clone =/
Over all, yah its been a good arc for her.
Can't wait for the Grand Festival though.
Than we can say her arc is finished.

I love all 3 girls.

Dawn as a battler, is very underrated.

She poses a threat, IMO, and holds her own as a coordinator no doubt.

Hmm...
Well, although her contest arc was just not as interesting as May's, I'll give her credit for being more realistic--she doesn't win every time, and we had plenty of character development.

So, I sorta enjoyed it.

Overall? Yes, I did. Even though Dawn didn't have the benefit of an assortment of interesting rivals like May did, her arc stands up quite well on its own and is completely and utterly different to May's.

Yes, quite in fact. I liked how it was realistic, we had some good battles, Haruka returned for Mikuri Cup(and Harley's Pukurin got an epic flashback), Musashi is now a real threat and doesn't cheat. Though I agree, Eteboth vs. Pottaishi was very forced, rushed and crappy. And Eteboth being released was not best thing in the saga either(though I hate Eteboth's design, still she was a good character). I hope writers and animators fix that in GF and give us good battle between Hikari and Kengo.

I adored it. Then again, I adore Dawn. In regards to her contest arc, I like how the writers allowed Dawn to lose. To me, it felt more realistic, as she was a beginning coordinator and she had to struggle, train, get better and finally get it right. Also, I like how she had to learn to cope with defeat, because that allowed Dawn to get nice character developpement as she was super confident in the beginning, got shaken and had to grow up and become stronger.

Wallace Cup and Asatsuki Contest were my favourite contests, but really they were almost all great. As rivals, Zoey's ok while Ursula and Jesslina are super great.

Two points:

- Sandalstraw contest, well whatever the one where Ambipom v Prinlup was. That one was bad.
- Kenny and Nando combined have less personnality than a rock.

In terms of how her story unfolded, it's all been a vast improvement to May's. The recurring rivals and their influences on her and her pokemon, the lengthy crash in confidence during the middle of the journey, the constant (and completely realistic) losses during both battle and appeal rounds, the practise she puts in, the whole deal with Mamoswine, the 'Pikari' story that was referenced for what seemed like an eternity, the childhood friends. Those're all quality ideas, and shows what these guys can do when they get their thinking caps on.

Unfortunately, it all falls flat when the interaction, drama (ha!) and personallities shared between each of the characters (and their pokemon) involved bored, or indeed irritated, the ever-lovin' shuckle juice out of me. It's all well and good having good ideas, but what's the point when you couldn't give a damn about the cast?

In terms of the actual battles and stuff?
All her appeals have been painfully boring, thanks mainly to their repetetive nature, and battle-wise, the only ones I've truely enjoyed involved Mamoswine, though that admitedly puts her a step above May. However, with that said, unless we get a Mamoswine vs. Gallade finale (which even then isn't going to fueled by a rivalry as tense as May and Drew's), she doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of beating out Combusken vs. Absol.

Can't say I did. I'm not a huge fan of Dawn and I simply haven't enjoyed her contest arc. It bored me. I don't like her rivals, her appeals, or well, anything that has to do with her contests tbh, so yeah. I didn't like it very much.

I much preferred May's. I don't feel like Dawn has that much to learn about her strengths or improve much, she's a aleady pretty confident in herself. Where as May went on a journey with her contests, and I never judge contests or gym battles by the entertainment factor alone.

As far as the story and progression are concerned, I thought the writers did well, with an effort not to make a copy of May's contest journey. I liked her initial losses and subsequent depression as it gave good character development. Having her lose twice again showed how much she improved emotionally, not getting depressed but working harder.
I particularly liked the Wallace cup, though I did think May deserved to win (not just due to experience but based on the battle alone), the Hearthome city contest and the Lilypad contest (very amusing).

As for battles, I found them on the whole ok but not that exciting (with exceptions of course) and I found the appeals disappointing. Dawn mostly does the same cute 'n sparkly routine, and appeals nowadays seem to focus more on sparkles and shimmer that the actual moves and combinations.(Exception being the Wallace cup and final ribbon)

Rivals were rather dull until Ursula appeared, adding a little more suspense and drama. So overall, I found it well thought out and quite enjoyable, but lacking in humour and entertainment. I did prefer May's contests.

I was so annoyed at how she got to get her five ribbons. Yeah, she's an amazing co-ordinator, but beating May, even if it is by little points, was a tad unfair especially given May has never won a Grand Festival either. Dawn shouldn't have lost so many times but I guess the writers may have done that to make the Grand Festival for Sinnoh fit at the right time. I hope Dawn doesn't win the Grand Festival, she's already been given too much luck.
