overrated: Kingdom hearts- i'm sorry but this is the worst cross-over idea EVER. I cannot describe how much i hate this game... (it's just so gay!!)

underrated: Pulseman- I'm going as far as to say this is the most underrated game of all time, it's so underrated Pit looks like Mario in comparison!. And if it were'nt for the internet, you'd probably never even know about it... Gamefreak makes more than just Pokemon you know... play it now, and find out what you've been missing out on!.

Over-rated: Final Fantasy VII. Sure it was good and all, but it just doesn't deserve all the hype and fanboi/girls that it's recieved:
"OMG!! I <3 VINCENT HE SHOULD TOTALLY SECKS CLOUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Under-rated: Live-A-Live. It's true... Not every game crapped out of Square Enix's ass is overhyped. In my opinion, this game just didn't recieve much attention.

.

I agree.:-)

Zelda twilight princess is pretty overrated, its not as good as OoT but its still good:-) people think its the best Wii game out there.:-(

Overrated: The original Final Fantasy. Got it for my GBA. Bored me to death, so I just started on FFII. Yes, I know JRPGs as we know it wouldn't exist without it, but all those fanboys who did happydances about its release on the Game Boy Advance had the beergoggles of nostalgia on. (There's a lot of Square games on here...)
Tetris. Not that it's a bad game, it's just that... you can get it nearly ANYWHERE cheap/free these days, and people STILL shell out money to play it on their DS.
Pokemon Ranger. I've seen a lot of people talk about how much they love it on here and other sites, but really, where is the fun in drawing circles around Pokemon sprites? I mean, really, I can do it FREE on Paint.
Mario Kart: Yes, it's a good kart game. And a nice way to kill some time. But come on, people, it's a racing game. Nintendo didn't break any barriers by releasing it (actually, they inadvertently did us a big misfavor- how many Crash Bandicoot and Pac Man racers does the world need ruining people's lives?)
Any sports game that comes out every year (Madden, etc): For the most part (well, ever since EA bought all the pro sports licenses), it's pretty much the SAME GAME every year. Yet people keep shelling out $50 for a few new players and maybe improved throwing physics.
Halo: Yes, I know it's Halo. But people act like it's the first FPS ever made or something, or like Bungie CREATED the FPS. They didn't, guys. I won't argue it's a good game, but come on.
Underrated:
Bust A Move. Really, really fantastic puzzle game. Don't let the cheesy name scare you off.
Drill Dozer. You know, Game Freak makes more than just Pokemon, you guys.
Pokemon Puzzle League (and any other Tetris Attack variation). Yes, it WAS an anime cash in that never saw Japan, but you know what? It was a GOOD one.
Guilty Gear. FANTASTIC 2D fighter, assuming you've got a high tolerance for bizzarre Japanese games. Also, one of the few fighters on the DS.
Chibi Robo. Anyone who DOESN'T like cuteness will disagree, but this is just a happy little game with a cute little robot and a beautiful soundtrack that's like playing a Pixar movie or something. Why oh why didn't people play it?

I agree with most of those you said Neku, but I don't know if I want to call Pokemon Ranger or Halo overrated. (Not because I don't agree, but) because Pokemon Ranger generally got pretty Meh reviews (Though I probably would have rated it less) and I'm not good enough in FPS to say that Halo is overrated. (Because to me, it's not much different from any other FPS)

I do think that Tetris is overrated by far, I very much have always preferred other puzzle games like Panel de Pon, Bust a Move, and Puyo Pop. I even find modern games like Meteos and Lumines better.

Right now though, the game I find truely the most overated is New Super Mario Brothers. That game really does not deserve all the sales and points it gets.
*First off, it is called by the fans as a spiritual evolution of the first game, which is really nintendo's excuse to not try on the game.
*Second it re-uses many of the models from Super Mario 64DS, which I would have been perfectly fine with if they put new content into it. Really, Nintendo must have funded this game like a budget title.
*Third, it recycles minigames from Mario 64DS. It's almost like they thought the content they had wasn't going to fly so they just tried to jam as much as they could into the cart with out upgrading the size.
*Fourth, it is basically the Worst Mario game in the entire series, granted one can argue that it is superior to the first game by current standards, but it really isn't and even compared to the GB Super Mario Land games, this game fails in comparison.
*Fifth, it's advertised as a touch generation title in all territories despite that it is not. It still requires gamer knowledge and skill to pass, and even though Mario has always been a series that can show how to play video games, this still seemed more like an advertising ploy to sell more games! (I mean, if Nintendo wants to use that logic, then games like Pokemon and Advance Wars can be advertised as touch generation more than Mario as they don't require the dexterity that mario does)

Overated:
* Ico
* New Super Mario Bros
* NiGHTs into Dreams
* Final Fantasy VII
* Elder Scrolls Oblivion
* The Halo series
* Twilight Princess
* Elite Beat Agents/Ouendan
* Sims 2
* Nintendogs
* World of Warcraft
* Phoenix Wright series.

Underrated:
* Majora's Mask
* Any Monster Rancher (except III)
* Sonic and the Secret Rings
* Drill Dozer
* Pikmin
* Dewy's Adventure and Elebits
* Okami
* Steambot Chronicles
* Chibi-Robo
* Viva Pinata
* Gotcha Force

Overrated:
I agree with everyone about Halo 3. I bought it and while it IS a very good game and well worth the money, it is NOT worth the hype that fanboys have been tossing each other off about (brownie points if you get the reference.)
I also borrowed my friends copy of Bioshock and I just could not see what all my friends were talking about.
And truly, with all the hype leading up to D/P around here, you'd have thought it was the second coming.

Underrated:
Blazing Angels for the Wii. I don't know how this didn't sell more on the Wii. I mean, yes, it's an awesome game for 360, PS3 etc., but on the Wii the control system is amazing and yet nobody has a clue about it.
Mystery Dungeon was very underrated, I thought. I mean, I can see why people don't like it, but it was actually very fun for me. I certainly don't think it was worth all the bad reviews people gave it.
And finally, Yoshi's Story. This would have to be one of THE greatest N64 games there is. The instant I saw it on the the Shopping channel I bought it. It is so much fun, and the nostalgia factor is through the roof.

Overrated: Twilight Princess (though I still love it); Halo (multiplayer mode on all three is kinda fun...but aggrivating like whoa)

Underrated: Viva Piñata and Jet Set Radio Future

Somebody said Elebits was underrated...interesting...

Overrated:
Halo. If not for the multiplayer, I would have called it a waste of money (and I got it for half-off).
Sims. Though I blame that on my dislike for games lacking objectives.
Worlds of Warcraft. So much walking...and for what? Nothing.
Grand Theft Auto. I just...I don't get it.

Underrated:
Monster Rancher. All of the PS1/2 games, at the very least. Especially 4.
Jade Cocoon. Not 2, though. 2 was lacking, and the monsters were awfully Pokemon-ish.
Harvest Moon. They may not change much from game-to-game, but when you almost nail a perfect game the first time...what can you expect?
Guild Wars. Always overshadowed by the MMOs.

Overated:

* NiGHTs into Dreams

I don't see how Nights is overrated, it was an awesome game and it set the standard for the analog controlled games we have today. Without Nights, we probably wouldn't have analog controllers now. Plus it was one of the few truly great games released for the Sega Saturn. I'd say Nights into Dreams is more underrated than overrated; I hadn't even heard of it until I got my Saturn a year or so ago and I was looking for games for it.

And as for my list:

Overrated:
Halo - What a boring game. I don't really see what's so great about it. Oh boy, it's just another run around and shoot random things game, not to mention the fact that the controls are a pain in the ass, but that may be due to the very poorly designed Xbox controller.

Grand Theft Auto - Oh my god, it's so edgy and violent and graphic, I'm such a badass for playing it. There's really no point to the game, it's just boring.

Guitar Hero - I love Guitar Hero, it's one of my favorite games and it's really fun to play. However, it's just a rip-off of Guitar Freaks, albeit with better songs and more buttons on the controller. It's not really that original or ground breaking considering Guitar Freaks had been around for years before. I'm still going to get Guitar Hero III though.

Metroid Prime - What a great way to completely destroy a classic game series, turn into a first person shooter. Tons of people had never heard of Metroid until Prime came out and now they think that the Prime series are the only Metroid games out there, completely ignoring the far superior classic 2D sidescollers.

Underrated:

Megaman Classic and Megaman X series: Every one of them is great, yet not a lot of people play them. The classic series was one of the best series on the NES, and the X series was a great series that spanned several consoles.

Pokemon Ranger. I've seen a lot of people talk about how much they love it on here and other sites, but really, where is the fun in drawing circles around Pokemon sprites? I mean, really, I can do it FREE on Paint.
weird, I was about to put Pokemon Ranger in the underrated list
It's not just circling sprites, you gotta do it really fast and the sprites are more lifelike.
And when you capture the sprites, you can use them as tools
I'm a huge fan of Pokemon ranger
Overrated -
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon - this is mostly because I want humans in my Pokemon games
Zelda Links Awakening - I dont know where it's status is but it's probably overrated... also, it's the toughest game I have ever played (I still haven't beat the third temple boss. I'm a senior in high school and I got the game when I was in........coughthe4thgrade)

Underrated -
Majora's mask

U kidding? Link's Awakening is heavily ignored compared to the other games.

I wouldn't say Link's Awakening is underrated, it's just not really famous. But those who have played normally praise it.

Overrated for me:

Halo series.
Elder Scrolls games.
and FFVII.

Underrated:

Uh... I dunno. One I'd say is MS Saga on the PS2, it took a lot of bad reviews, but I thought it was a pretty cool mecha-RPG.

Syaoran, you're really not in touch with old-school gamers, are you? Seriously, how can you be under the impression that practically anyone who was alive in the '90s never touched a Mega Man game? And I think Zeta has a right to call Nights over-rated. I never played it myself, but nonetheless, I see people hyping about it, several of whom believe it's the sole reason to own a Saturn (though, I can name a shitload of other games which interest me, personally.... I need to get around to buying a Saturn). I'm not saying the game looks bad, that I'm turned off from playing it due to all the fanboys, but I am saying there's a fair chance it won't live up to the expectations I kept hearing whenever I do get around to finally playing it. Assuming Zeta did play Nights, he could have had the same impression. Remember, "underrated" can hardly mean a game is outright bad (though, it sure as hell seems to be thrown around the internet a lot in such a context). It simply means it's hyped up to be more than it actually is.

Jade Cocoon. Not 2, though. 2 was lacking, and the monsters were awfully Pokemon-ish.

YOU WILL DIE FOR THAT COMMENT!!! [cough] Um.... I mean..... uh.... whatever, just an opinion, right? I'm... just gonna go about my merry way.... or something... yeah.

In all seriousness, I prefer having established things in my game than complete and total customization (especially when the fusions can end up looking like shit -_-). I also think Jade Cocoon 2 deserves MAJOR points for using such a unique battle system, one the likes of which has never been seen in other monster-raisers, nay RPGs in general. Plus, unlike Jade Cocoon 1, it didn't have that shitty movement control which I hear actually plagued several early PS1 titles.

U kidding? Link's Awakening is heavily ignored compared to the other games.

actually, so far as I'm concerned, it's among the most critically-acclaimed games from the 8-bit portable era (as expected of a Zelda title). The only reason it's ignored now is because it's never seen anything like a remake or a release on a Collector's Disc or the Wii (why the hell won't Nintendo provide downloads of Game Boy games?)... not counting Link's Awakening DX, which still stands as a relic from two generations ago, the days when Nintendo still used cartridged-based consoles and battery back-up.

Anyway, I just wanted to throw this out here: while NIS America seems to have been doing a good job getting their name out there (much more than Atlus ever did), and their games tend to get pretty good reviews, they tend to be listed with some rather unfair "flaws". In particular, I've noticed several of the major reviewers getting on Atelier Iris for using "dated graphics". What a bunch of assholes. Can't they see that those sprites are pretty damn high-quality, something that one couldn't dream of accomplishing with the SNES, or possibly even the 32-bit generation (well.... Atelier Iris might be possible on there.... Odin Sphere on the other hand)? 2D is a genre all its own, and it too is still capable of progression. However, the mainstream media's just gotta be a bunch of dicks who believe it should die off and let everything be in 3D, and that really makes me sad.

You know, I really gotta commend the Japanese adult gaming industry.... not just because I like hentai, but because they prove there's not so damn much of an emphasis on 3D over there as there is here. I mean, text adventures.... aside from the rare localized hentai, we don't even fucking get that genre over here. Mind you, I have yet to play a text adventure for myself, but I sure am interested in experiencing whatever story's being constructed behind that beautiful CG art (and yes, I have heard it's just a cheap excuse for fap fodder in most cases, but some of these stories are highly praised as well.... Key and Type-Moon games, for instance. That and, OMG, there're some text-adventures that actually aren't ero, some of which you may recognize being mentioned on Smash Bros. Melee trophies). Being made aware of the hoard of 2D RPGs and other such games being made by doujin circles also gives me a warm feeling deep inside. ^^

Overrated: The original Final Fantasy. Got it for my GBA.

Oh, but the original FF isn't available for the GBA. What you played was the worst remake in the history of the game, that, while oddly popular, I can't understand how anyone could possibly enjoy. No, no, the original FF1 is a great game. The crap you played on the GBA isn't.

Oh, and adult game wise, Tsukihime is a fucking amazing game everyone should play. And you can turn off the sex scenes if that's not your thing, so don't let that keep you from the game.

No, I played the original Final Fantasy. It really IS overrated crap that people only remember fondly due to nostalgia. The series didn't really get decent until FFIII.

Oh, it's a great game alright. But a lot of people remember it as some totally fantastic, Earth-changing game that can never have sequels or remakes because it's just that perfect. While it IS pretty good, it's not the end all and be all of video games and lots of things in it could certainly use some improvement.

Syaoran, you're really not in touch with old-school gamers, are you? Seriously, how can you be under the impression that practically anyone who was alive in the '90s never touched a Mega Man game?

I'm an old school gamer myself. I didn't say that no one has played Mega Man; I'm aware that it's big in the retro game scene. I'm saying that a lot of gamers these days who weren't playing games in the '80's and '90's don't seem to care about the Mega Man series. Also, whenever I see people talking about great old school games they're always talking about Zelda and Mario and Final Fantasy and other overly discussed games, yet they tend to ignore the Mega Man series, especially the X series. That's why it seems underrated to me.

Overrated: Half-Life series, people hold it in high regard, I don't know why. It's not that good.
