I have searched around and have found no mention of this error that I seem to have run into. I recently purchased FireRed with the specific intention of importing Kanto starters into my Pokemon Pearl through use of Pal Park. However when I try to do this it doesn't even recognize that I have FireRed and then deletes my saved data in FireRed. If anyone could please help me with this error I would be extremely grateful.

Sounds like a dodgy copy of FireRed to me. I had a similar problem with a copy I got of Ebay. Where did yours come from? I believe that a legit FireRed should be a solid coloured game cart, redish orange is the colour. The one I had was a clear-reddy type (like Ruby). Is yours like this?

Also, you should be able to google the images to compare a ruby and firered. As you will be able to see firered is the more solid colour cart. If your firered looks more like ruby, I think that it could be dodgy. However like I said, this may not be correct info - it just is a similar situation to what I had.

I got a fire red from a legit store, but it did not work, but it was pre owned, if it had been pre owned it might have a chance of not working, but I managed to get another one, which was also preowned and it worked fine.,
If you have a copy of Sapphire/Ruby, if the fire red is legit, it will feel slightly lighter than ruby/sapphire cartridges, but I can't gaurentee that being a good way to test if its legit.

The game works fine otherwise so I think it might be legit, however the previous owner still had a save file on there and that file had Mew... If he somehow got that through less then clean means would that possibly screw the whole system up?
Maybe if your able to get another Gen III game and two GBA and a cable, maybe you could see if the pokemon trade from your FR game, that might help, you could pal park the pokemon from the other game, but thats only if you can do it.

I have the same problem with a used copy I got off Amazon except it was leafgreen and it would work on rare accasions
