Hello Art Gallery!! :bulbaWave:

In the dead cold of the winter months, we wanted to bring you all something fun and sweet to indulge in. Thus, we've cooked up an art exchange to warm you right up!

Welcome to our Palentines Exchange!! Its pretty simple: come up with some prompts based on characters (canon and OC), Pokémon or even a ship you like. Then, we will match with another user (your Palentine!) and you will draw one of their prompts!

Sign ups are open Now through January 7th. From there, you will receive your Palentine and their wishes no later then January 14th. We will check in with everyone around January 24th and February 4th to make sure things are running smoothly on your end. Then, on the February 14th (no earlier then that!!) everyone will reveal their gift to their Palentine by mentioning them in this thread! Yay!

Before we begin, we do have some guidelines we'd like you to follow with regards to the exchange:

  1. All gifts must adhere to Bulbagarden's Global Forum rules as well as Art Gallery's rules. This means specifically:
    1. Gifts must be SFW in nature.
    2. Generative AI usage is not allowed.
  2. When sending prompts at least one prompt must be General in nature. Ships will be allowed considering the season, but not everyone is going to want to draw ship art! Please be mindful of this when putting together your prompts.
  3. While there isn't a minimum criteria for this exchange, We ask that you please put some time and effort into your gift. Think about the amount of time you would want your Palentine to work on your gift and follow suit. My recommendation is at least one hour of work at the bare minimum. (This is not a requirement, just my advice!)
  4. We understand circumstances can change quickly and you might find that you don't have the time to complete your gift. Please let us know as soon as possible if you cannot complete your gift. This is so we can contact a pinch hitter and give them ample time to work on a substitution.
  5. Please make sure you respond to our check-ins! If you don't respond to either check-in, you will be dropped from the exchange. (No hard feelings, this to make sure everyone gets their gift in a timely manner!!)
  6. All that said, if you believe you need an extension please let us know! The deadline to request an extension is February 7th.
  7. Please do not post your gift until February 14th. We will mention everyone in the thread when it is time to post. This is to keep everything a surprise for all participants. c:

Now a quick FAQ for all your burning questions:

Question: Can I submit a fanfic for this exchange?
Answer: No, this is for Audio/Visual media only. However! if you are interested in a Crossover Exchange of All Time (re: Art Gallery x Writers' Workshop) seriously, let us know. we want to sooooo badly u have no idea. i am clawing at lisia's office door rn.

Q: Do I have to draw something digitally for this exchange?
A: Absolutely not! If you want to paint, sculpt, take photos, animate, compose music, do some interpretive dance etc. etc. feel free! Almost all types of art can be submitted. (If you're unsure, feel free to run it by a mod first!)

Q: I need clarification about something related to my prompt, how do I go about asking for this?
A: Send your questions to me or another Art Gallery mod. We'll serve as the intermediaries between you and your giftee.

Q: Can I ask for feedback on the gift I'm working on?
A: Please feel free to PM a mod if you need an extra set of eyes on something! Just don't post any WIPs publicly until February 14th.

Q: Can I include my OC in the prompts?
A: Yes but please make sure you link to some references!

Q: Can I request something non-Pokémon related?
A: Sure, but lets keep it to one Non-Pokémon request.

what exactly does it mean by a "General" prompt? how general does it have to be?
also, is it okay to include non-Pokémon-related requests as long as sufficient references/resources are provided?

General means art that isn't related to ships or shipping characters. For example: "Blue Oak doing research in the field with his Eevee" would be considered general. You can also specify that a prompt with two characters is general Ex: "Erika and Misty buying tea at Celadon department store [General]" Basically: what you define as general in the prompt would be general. If that makes sense?

okay i just remembered another question i had - how detailed do we have to be with the prompts? like, do we have to describe a particular situation, like in the examples above, or can we let the other person come up with the details? (e.g. just "Blue Oak" instead of "Blue Oak doing research".) i'm not the most comfortable requesting specific scenes so idk whether it's okay to just provide the character info and let them interpret it however they'd like.

The prompts themselves can be as simple as you want them to be (heck, honestly preferable imho!!) I would try to be specific about what you do and do not want though.
 
YAY i've been waiting for this :ayeaye: question: what if i don't have strong feelings regarding "do not want to see/create"? is that required for the PM?
