In a recent interview with Barbara Walters, Palin mentioned that "more and more Jewish people will be flocking to Israel in the days and weeks and months ahead". Now of course, hey, nothing wrong with immigration (ahaha ha hahaha ha haha), but she seems to be hinting very specifically at something.

Now, most Christians don't put themselves into this category, but I've read in several places of Christian groups who not only think the so-called "Rapture" is upcoming, but that just before the second coming of Christ that Jews will return to their homeland in droves.

Now, sure, I'm not against anyone's beliefs. Have at it, think that the world's gonna end in 37 months. Whoopee. But a person like Sarah Palin, who seems to have captured the votes of quite a large amount of Americans regardless of if she runs in 2012 or not... to think that the end of the world is coming? That just doesn't sit well with me. To have any sort of power and think the end is coming... it's just gonna make you want to force it to come if it's not coming fast enough.

Now I know, hey, if Palin does get elected in 2012, she'd not be in office until early 2013. The electoral votes are officially counted on the Monday before December 21, for all you conspiracy theorists out there. So nothing coincides with that date.

But really... for someone who has the potential to be in such a high position, and who is able to make a chunk of the population jump if she says to? I dunno... Just makes me feel uneasy.

That seems like a incredibly large stretch, the talk was about expanding Israeli settlements to handle the increasing population of Israel. She could easily and most likely have been talking about how that since Israel will have immigration and need to expand, they will need to have the settlements expanded.

That said those on the far left who take anything Palin says and try to twist it around does make me laugh. Everyone remember this crap next time the Far Right decides to demonize Obama for something stupid he has done.

Edit: Here is the exchange

WALTERS: The Obama administration does not want Israel to build any more settlements on what they consider Palestinian territory. What is your view on this?

PALIN: I disagree with the Obama administration on that. I believe that the Jewish settlements should be allowed to be expanded upon, because that population of Israel is, is going to grow. More and more Jewish people will be flocking to Israel in the days and weeks and months ahead. And I don’t think that the Obama administration has any right to tell Israel that the Jewish settlements cannot expand.

WALTERS: Even if it’s Palestinian areas?

PALIN: I believe that the Jewish settlements should be allowed to be expand.

This honestly looks like religious flamebait, but It's too topical to report.

Not flamebait, just an honest question.

She said days and weeks and months, not years. Sure, I consider her a moron, whatever, but... she seems like she's specifically pointing toward the return of Mr. Chosen One himself and the end of the world.

I'm just saying that this treads dangerously close to turning into a theology argument which can get really, really nasty. As a religious person myself, I find it difficult to post back without spending a lot of time on it, which I'm sure wasn't your intention.

So in good conscience I'm just going to say I can't really answer this post effectively because I can see what it will devolve into.

Okay, sure, maybe it'd devolve into a theology-based discussion. This is the Soap Box! We're supposed to do that here.

Can you honestly, though, say that someone in power who thinks that the end of the world will hit at date X by doing things Y and Z, and has the ability to force Y and Z to happen before date X...

Well, would you trust them with that power? I wouldn't... Beliefs should remain in the area of belief, not in reality. Did anyone believe the last seven hundred people who claimed to be Christ's second coming? What if one of them was?

So Palin is a poor pollie just because she believes the world will end? The world will end at some stage, whether it is due to the Sun becoming a supanova or America/China/North Korea unleashing some megaton bomb onto the whole world... ;-)

(Another day, another TTEchidna religion snipe thread. Its getting old mate. You should be focusing your energy on the Texas gay marriage thread.)

The Sun is not going to go supernova. That happens when stuff goes above about 1.38 solar masses. We're, obviously, around a star that has only 1.0 solar masses. It's gonna go red giant and then planetary nebula. And that's not for five billion more years.

Also, this isn't a snipe at religion, unless you consider everyone who thinks the end of the world is coming religious. It's just when religion gets involved in the world-ending prophecy and people start taking it seriously that I have a problem... especially people in power.

It seems even political leaders are looking toward the end of the world, whether it be to end all their problems and to be done with life in general, or just cause they're just another one of those people think that the end of the world is near. Personally I think instead of hoping and anticipating the end of the world people, even political leaders need to think pro-life(not talking about abortion) not pro-endtime. I think people out to get those end of the world thoughts out of their heads and actually try to make the world a better place to live in and to keep helping others. Would that happen you ask? I'm kind of hoping it would and trying to come around for that change, but knowing the world today people are so damned worried about themselves, though I'm not saying you can't be caring for yourself, but try to take time to help others and such.

Ehh. A lot of our political leaders are christian (most, probably), and they all hold a belief of the rapture. Honestly, I think it's stupid.

However, the problem here is that she's obviously a Zionist, and is trying to force her preconceived world ending upon us by setting up the circumstances for her end times. Allowing of Jewish expansionism will upset the Palestinians. This will end up causing great strife, so that foreign military action will end up happening. The great army from the north, so to speak. She's trying to set up the the scenario exactly as it's described in Revelations.

Honestly, I don't believe a damn thing will happen aside from bullets fired and blood shed. But the Zionists keep marching on.

President Ahmadinejad says hi! He says it's his personal duty to hasten the Final Judgement of mankind~

I highly doubt Palin believes the world is ending in the next few years. I mean really, Obama-worship falls into the same category and that makes me more uneasy than this.

She's an idiot. Do we really care what crazy stuff she says in her interviews?

Not a chance. No one in their right mind is going to vote in a woman who quite being Governor only weeks after losing the election for VP. I have no faith in a quitter like that.

I wonder with such a small brain does she thinking getting voted at least for President of the US, if the world does end(which it won't) she would get herself a position in heaven?

She quit months after the election after returning to Alaska and finding Democrats targeting her with numerous of screwy and pathetic lawsuits, causing her to spend more time fighting lawsuits than governing.

And do not underestimate her chances, she has 2 years to rebuild her image, and if things keep going as this year, she has the populism vote and the "Anyone but Obama" vote.

And also you seem to forget, that it is topics like these, it's the left's foaming irrational hatred of her and desperate desire to turn every word she utters into pure evil, that makes her sympathetic to a growing and growing group of people. I wonder if TTEchidna realizes that stuff like this, actually helps Palin.

As a Jew, I really disliked Palin speaking like she knew Jewish issues.

My God, she was asked a question on Israeli settlements, she has every right to answer such a question.

Do you even realize how much that makes you look like you are grasping at straws? Yes she says Days, Weeks, and Months, but that doesn't indicate any hidden motive or belief, that indicates she was just listing off different frames of time off the top of her head while trying to justify why Israeli settlements off the top of her head.

Edit: And just to demonstrate, I could easily make a thread right now saying Obama sees the only use for US Troops as props to help him. Why? Because it came out today that he said “You guys make a pretty good photo op” while meeting with soldiers. It would have about as much basis, if not more of a basis in reality than this thread.

Palin is a dolt. It's not surprising that the large dolt contingency in America would support her.
