As the fourth installment in this series encroaches, it's time we reflect back on the other three games. What do you think of the fourth, though? They dumped the Pixls, and returned to the TTYD format, rather than a sidescroller. So far, there's a Chain Chomp partner, and a green Toad. Interesting approach, with both of them.

I can't say much, given that I haven't played any of the Paper Mario games so far, but I could see myself getting the 3DS one if I have the money to spare. I've heard a lot of good things about the series, but I have to admit I wasn't really interested too much by what footage I did see from the earlier games.

Super Paper Mario is the only game in the series that I've played, so I'll probably be unfamiliar with the format of the fourth one. However, since I loved Super Paper Mario so much I'm determined to play TTYD and the original as well as the new one, and see if I end up liking any of them more than Super Paper Mario.

Thousand-Year Door is easily the best of the series imo, SPM felt a fair bit too platformish for my liking (that is to say, the attempted hybridisation didn't work out so well); I prefer full-on RPGs.

Yeah, I wish they had made SPM more like it's predecessors.

Thousand-Year Door was my favorite (Paper Mario was good, Super Paper Mario was just too platform-ish). So, going back to that format makes me happy. Overall, I'm very excited; can't wait to play! :D

Paper Mario TTYD is one of my favorite games. Fluid gameplay that never gets boring, environments not seen in a Mario game more than once, a killer bonus dungeon to spend time in, loads of humor and personality from the characters that the first PM seemed to lack, a beautifully-constructed story that could be further dove into if one wished, it just seemed to strike a perfect balance. I've seen some people say that the inclusion of the Superguard in TTYD made the game easier and somewhat less exciting than PM, but I thought the SuperGuard made for unique "no-damage" esque challenges to try.

There was only one thing that I disliked: Endless Play. I can certainly understand the point of an endless play mode, but not being able to fight the Shadow Queen again and end the story again made the game instantaneously boring to me.

Still looking forward to Paper Mario 3DS though.

I'm a big fan of the series and I've actually done a Let's Play of the first one and I'm currently doing one of the second.

I'm hoping the Chain Chomp is only beta cause I'd hate a Chain Chomp partner. I'd LOVE a group like this: Shy Guy, Hammer Bro, Penguin, Boo(or Bomb Boo), Crazee Dayzee, Yoshi, and a Ninji.

I played all of the paper mario games, I love each and every one of them. The gameplay is simple but fun and the characters are actually interesting and sometimes funny. The first 2 bring a strong sense of nostalgia to me and the third one was so much fun to play...I need to get a 3DS :p

There's supposed to be a Toad partner too... I wonder how that'll work out?

Well, there was Goombario (Paper Mario) and Goombella (Thousand-Year Door). So, it might end up in the same vein.

I'm so excited for the new Paper Mario game, I didn't like the change in feeling that happened in Super paper Mario, so I'm glad they are going back to the RPG style. I also think it is good that they are using the Mario creatures rather than the pixls, because I never quite felt the same attachment to them that I did with the creatures. Not only that, but I think the 3D can be rendered very well in the Paper style.
