Charges likely to mount in trunk incident

Noblesville -- Five children remained in protective custody Monday after police say their parents put two of them in a car trunk and drove away.

Jerrod Keith Griffin Sr., 32, and Khonda Irene Griffin, 29, both of Noblesville have been charged with neglect of a dependent, a Class D felony. On Monday morning, Vicky Dunbar, Hamilton County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman, said each likely will be charged with another count of neglect because the incident involved two children.
Dunbar said a neighbor called police around 4:20 p.m. Friday reporting that the Griffins placed two children in the trunk of a black Pontiac Grand Am and drove away. When officers arrived at the mobile home park where the Griffins live, at 23050 Ind. 37, the couple couldn't be located.
Dunbar said Deputy Todd Rees returned to the Griffin home Saturday afternoon and found the parents and five children, ages 8 months to 9 years old.
According to the police report, the parents told the officer that three of the children were asleep in the back seat of the car. Because there was no room for two more, the 9-year-old and 4-year-old were put in the trunk.
According to jail records, the Griffins posted $10,000 bond each at 11:45 p.m. Saturday.

Seriously, why are people like this allowed to reproduce?

wtf. *shakes head* Stupid people. Maybe having a bigger car would help? Or they could just take turns driving??? sheesh.

How did they get to whare they were going in the first place?

Ack either there is something wrong with me or perhaps because that crap happened to me. I don't see what the problem. My parents would go shove me anywhere in the car, it didn't hurt me. They're going to take away the children for what I consider is pretty minor. Thats just stupid. These parents made a mistake obviously, but who hasn't been shoved on the trailer of a quad bike, placed on a boar being carried along in a car, put in the trunk because your old Granddad was too drunk and couldn't drive him home. It happened to me, and I didn't care and I certainly didn't think I was abused or neglected or any other thing someone could say.

Aw, come on, it's no big deal. I remember it's alright in there, unless it's a REAAAALLY hot summer day and you have a screen over you. Then you can suffocate (though I remember being more annoyed by my sticky melted chocolate and being drenched in sweat, ha~). Personally, I've always liked the trunk, especially if you're not alone. It's fun and there's more room than if you're stuck on a seat.

But otherwise, this is just over-protective and weird. At the same time, though, a FOUR year old? Couldn't they put an older child in the back? Yeesh. Poor thing.

A bigger car would definitely help, though.

...You're joking, right? Most trunks over here are like suitcases.

In general, we tend to look down on locking kids in trunks in the States. Safety concerns and all.
