A horrible coordinated terrorist attack took place in Paris, France today. 120 people dead, with some estimates higher. The attacks took place around the city, though the worst incident was at a concert venue, where a hostage crisis was involved.

Attack sites:
  • Bataclan concert venue, 50 boulevard Voltaire, 11th district - hostages held
  • Le Carillon, 18 rue Alibert, 10th district - gun attack
  • Le Petit Cambodge, 20 rue Alibert, 10th district - gun attack
  • La Belle Equipe, 92 rue de Charonne, 11th district - gun attack
  • Near Stade de France, St Denis, just north of Paris - reported suicide bombing near venue as France v Germany football match played
  • Reports of gunfire at at least one other site
Paris attacks: Bataclan and other assaults leave many dead - BBC News

France has declared a national state of emergency, mobilized its armed forces and shut its borders. Truly horrifying.

The question now is what comes next. Witnesses reported at least one of the attackers mentioning that this terrorist act was in response to France's participation in the anti-ISIS campaign.

Condolences to the families of the victims of this tragic incident.
Do the authorities know of the identity of the perpetrators of these criminal acts?

That is shocking and horrific. I can't believe something like that would happen! I feel sorry for those who lost loved ones to the attack and I wish the survives a quick recovery and hope the victims get justice for this terrible crime.

I really don't know what I can say anymore. Thoughts and prayers aren't going to do a thing. Action needs to be taken instead of drumming up yet another media circus.

My heart goes out to those who lost loved ones in Paris. I am fearful that the far right (including the far right here in Australia) will milk this to promote their hatred.

My cousin and his wife were in Paris at the time of the attacks, but they are both okay.

Just heard about this. Sad end to a great day with Jihad John dead, and Kurdish forces taking back a city.
I think it was a revenge attack for Jihad John being killed.
I feel for France. Also, euro 2016 is being held in Paris next year so attacking a football match in Paris kinda makes sense.

They're going to. They always do. Newt Gingrich already made the stupid "this wouldn't have happened if more people were carrying" argument.

A terrible incident. France is becoming a terrorist hotspot. I dont think the french people can take much more. No doubt the pro french groups will use this for propognda.

I watched this news around 9 am and my expression was both shocked and full of sadness. IIRC, France got attacked twice, however this is the worst.

Damn those terrorist, why they provoked peace although we did nothing to them?

May all victims and citizens of Paris are given integrity and will power to outstand these incidents.

Heard about it last night and couldn't go to sleep until I knew the attacks had stopped. This is far too upsetting, the amount of terrorist attacks that have happened this year is disgusting. I hate this year.

I'd imagine ISIS has targeted France due to it being easy to transport weapons to and its relationship with America, Britain and Germany. If ISIS hit them it'll rile us up. The fact that they targeted a stadium where Germany was having a match proves they want to get as many people to get involved. With the Russian plane in Egypt getting bombed that's another addition to countries that are getting involved. This is ridiculous.

No one is safe from ISIS, not even other Muslims. ISIS wants everyone to die so they can become martyrs, they'd even kill their own family.

CAn we just not speak about those ogres known as ISIS? The fact they were dense enough to piss off Russia of all countries means this recent action's only going to bring the germans into the scrap, and the combo of the russian no-bullshit attitude and Germany's badass army means these cultists are all but boned.

I doubt the loss of JJ would affect them much either. This was probably planned for months and executed coincidentally with that menial hit to their morale.

Instead of spewing forth hatred at the attention seeking cultists who want people to be angry at them, we should focus our emotions towards sympathy and support for those affected by this atrocity. Let the russians roll over the terrorists who were stupid enough to attack them.

My condolences to the victims and their families, as well as France as a whole. France will make it through this and become even stronger and more resilient as a nation. They've had their share of woes, but they've always bounced back.

To the people of France, I have a message I would like to deliver on behalf of myself and other New Orleans area residents: Vive la France.

My thoughts goes to the victims, their relatives and loved ones and the people of France. We all share your pain in this dark hour.

It is scary how far these people are going, and from what I know France is a peaceful country.

Did they purposely plan for it to be on Friday 13th by the way?

My thoughts to the people of France. :(

We had a minute of silence today at college to commemorate the tragedy.

I was at my board games group when it happened. One of the guys there saw the news on his phone and told us that there had been shootings in Paris. The rest of us were completely nonplussed because there are shootings all the time in this world (sad but true). It wasn't until the next day when i saw the news that i realised just how serious it really was.

Probably not. I doubt ISIS even recognized that the day was supposed to be "unlucky," and it was most likely just a coincidence. People in general don't place much emphasis on Friday the Thirteenth as well.
