Pattern with the story arcs?

After the Diamond and Pearl arc, the Black and White/Best Wishes arc was introduced and some people including me noticed how the BW arc was reminiscent of the Original series/Indigo League because of it's similarities. (Ash's beginner-like battling skills, Lighthearted story tone, Iris's personality being similar to Misty's, Ash's outfit having the sane colors of his Original series outfit etc.)

After the BW arc was over we were introduced to the XY arc for generation VI. The XY series has a few similarities to the Advanced Generation series. (Ash traveling with siblings, Ash having no rival (As of yet) and Serena being somewhat like May.

When the XY series is finished, I imagine the next arc be like the Diamond and Pearl which focused more on story, Ash's battling skills being semi close to Red's, Ash having a convoluted relationship with his rival etc.

I really hope so since the DP arc is the best arc in the anime IMO.

Never thought about this but I do like how he has no rival currently in XY, thank you for bringing that one up.

Hmm...this implies that the arc after the arc after the XY arc is going to be terrible. Worrying. ;)

I don't think this is the case.
They switched to an entirely new team for the XY anime, which is why XY is so distinctly different from other arcs.
I don't see why you feel that XY is similar to AG-- it's not meant to be this way.
XY is not meant to be similar to anything at all.

The "switch to an entirely new team" was just a rumor. The screenplay writers are still the same, and I'm not sure, but I think we did get a couple of new animators, but I could be wrong.
That said, one thing that definitely changed was that we did get a new series director, Tetsuo Yajima who replaced the director for DP and BW.

XY seems to be amazing so far (if a bit filler heavy) so I don't mind one bit its direction. I can only hope that as this new series director progresses, the show becomes less focused on filler and more on continuity, recreating the plot of the game (loosely or accurately, I don't really care) and moving along the characters and Ash's battling ability.

I agrre with you, It's a thing many fans have observed.

We'll get a saga similar to DP eventualy, as it's a very popular and well-recieved saga even 5 years after it ended airing...or maybe not, seeing than XY is even more in the "safe side" than BW. Or who knows, maybe the final arc of XY will have many surprises and twist and will end up closer than DP on retrospective.

I kind of agree with this and kind of don't. Even though i don't think there are enough similarities between OS/BW and AG/XY, I do feel that XY is a continuation of Best Wishes in the same way AG was to OS. It's still following Ash's reset in Best Wishes instead of going all the way back to Diamond and Pearl and continuing that. Also XY has continued the trend Best Wishes started of not using any TV series music from Diamond and Pearl and earlier.

I wish that this would be true, and if so can they bring back the real deal Shinji next time? :-p

Like they take scripts of older episodes, edit and change them to fit the current region and cast of characters for some episodes?

Yes, Yajima took over beginning with XY Episode #1 the 監督 (Kantoku, literally 'director' but in the case of a television series I would say 'series director' fits better). Sutou Norihiko had been series director for Advanced Generation Episode #170 through the end of Best Wishes. シリーズ構成 (Series Kousei, literally 'series composition'; essentially the head writer) is still credited to Tomioka Atsuhiro, who took on the role beginning with Diamond & Pearl Episode #1 . Asada Yuuji was credited as series director for Diamond & Pearl Episodes #1 71-191 alongside Sutou. Asada was also the episode director and storyboard artist for an impeccable five out of those last twenty episodes ( Episodes #1 72, #1 77, #1 87, #1 88, and #1 91).

The kantoku credit seems to be a little different with Pocket Monster compared to other series. Pocket Monster also has a 総監督 (Sou-kantoku, 'chief director') in Yuyama Kunihiko. Yuyama has been the chief director of the animated franchise since Episode #1 of the 1997-2002 animated series. He has also personally directed every film. My guess is his role is to set the tone of the series and then passes the role of actually overseeing the execution of the series to the kantoku, Yajima Tetsuo in this case. Yuyama is otherwise too uninvolved with the series these days for me to gauge just how much influence he directly has, though. Yuyama used to occasionally storyboard episodes, but he no longer does that, presumably due to his age.

Still, my guess is that Tomioka Atsuhiro and Asada Yuuji are the ones to thank for Diamond & Pearl. They wrote and directed nearly all of the important episodes of the series with their output only lessening once it came time to do Best Wishes.

I would say it's more of rhythm since the new series also add their own twists and turns to the series. Pretty soon by Generation VIII or IX, people will be seeing patterns from the Kalos Saga.

Ash wins 8 badges
Fights in the league
Loses

Seems similar to me... those lazy bastards!
