I am pretty sure that Paul is the positive character in anime. Some of people think he is brutal and negative person. But he isn't. IMHO Paul pushes his pokemons mostly because of his brother. Because his brother gave up after loss to Brandon. That's why he is angry and his roughness is just a mask.
I am sure he will warm up after league. And Ash will be the main reason for it.

I had a chuckle about Paul being dubbed positive. :D He of the 'Yeah sure, you KO'ed the opponent, but they only hit the dirt 0.2 seconds after your attack hit, I call that WEAK! *drags out grindstone*'?

There definitely has got to be some kind of resolution by the end of the D/P where Paul is concerned. I'm hoping not to see some sort of 180-degree Redeemed!Paul, but I'm fairly certain he will 'warm up' a bit. Brock did say something along the lines of 'I think Ash is getting to you' to Paul recently.

Yea is SUCH a richard at times that he gotta believe the writers will soften him up at the end of the arc.

Shinji, a positive character? Really?

I admit, I loled. Now I'm going to headdesk a little for good measure.

I kinda laughed when I read that. He shouts at his pokemon when they don't do well and at gym leaders or trainers he beats easily "Pathetic" and the things he said to chimchar when he let him go come to mind and thats positive how?

Paul is NOT a positive character in any way right now. He may get results from his brash way of training, but its like doing steroids...you may get instant satisfaction of winning, but in the end you're not bettering yourself in the longrun....(plus your balls shrink)

I'm hoping the Brandon eps shed some more light on Paul's past, assuming the family aspect is confirmed.

Except of confirmation on whether or not Brandon is Paul and Reggie's father, I seriously don't think there's anything else to learn about Paul
He acts the way he does because he thinks Reggie failed and don't want to act like him and fail too (it's ridiculous to say Reggie failed while he has all these badges, but that's Paul's opinion)
I think from now on, we'll begin to see a gradual change in Paul and the epiosdes from now will focus on Paul beginning to understand he's wrong
Of course, he'll truly change only after the League (final battle should be Ash: Pika/Infernape VS Paul: Electivite/Magmortar, Ash win) but even then he'll probably keep his cold attitude

The fact he's likely to keep his attitude is why I so want him to join the group
Imagine Paul patting/playing with Pikachu and then once Ash/Dawn come to Paul he all of a sudden become cold again and Pika is confused XD
But I know I should be ready for Paul NOT joining the twerps, too bad... but I can dream...

Paul being positive is like saying Brock is gay or ash is smart.

Richard III allusion FTW! Please tell me that was a Shakespeare reference?

Something tells me it was more of a Richard=Dick thing, at least that's the first thing I think when I hear the name Richard used in that context. But then again, I'm a fail!nerd xD

Eh... Ash IS smart
Are you stuck in the past of the original series? AG/DP-Ash is an experienced trainer and shows a huge improvement from his stupid early days
I hate it when people act like Ash is still the same stupid he was at the beginning... he's not

If Paul is a positive character, how come I still get infractions for insulting people? That's supposed to be allowed right?

If Paul can be a jerkass, why can't I?

BA-ZING!

To the debate at hand:
As Brandon would say: NOOO!

But in all seriousness I don't think so. He's even let his pokemon go because they weren't to his expectations. I think people twist his bulntness about things into meaness. Which I don't think he's mean if he's telling the truth. But for the most part I think he's negative. Hopefulley as others said episode 128 will explain his attitudes.

PAUL is POSITIVE?! XD LOL...no, he's mean. :< But...maybe he'll get better later on. Hopefully.

Lets also not forget how he used to treat Chimchar...x_x;; Ahh...maybe he has some issues...you kinda have to feel for the guy a little....hmm...

*shrug's for now* Time will only tel...lol
