Ok, as I mentioned earlier Paul is my favorite character. I am opening this page for those who have something to say about Paul. What I mean is this is to discuss him as a character, his battles, his rivalry with Ash and things like that. Those who hate Paul don’t just say he’s a jerk or something like that. I am just looking for a healthy discussion about one of the most controversial characters of the series. So, just back up your opinions with well thought out facts to make this a conversation that we can all get something out of. Eagerly awaiting the first person to respond!----Paulisthebest

Paul is an excellent rival for Ash to have. Ash has always taken his training philosophy of love, friendship, and respect for his Pokemon for granted. But Paul is hard, cold, indifferent, uncaring, seeking only power in his Pokemon...in short, the complete opposite of Ash as a trainer. We saw people like him before, but they were minor characters and clearly several cuts below Ash as trainers. But Paul is a different story. When he battles Ash, he has a habit of coming off better. Now Ash has to prove his training philosophy true.

Definitely the best rival until now.

Just beat him already, we have been waiting for this 4 years. (forget the pokeringer).

I like Paul's drama, but him as a person, is a straight up jerk.

Can't wait for Ash to take him down.

I personally think Ash needed a rival like Paul. I mean, think of it.
Gary was a good rival of Ash, but when Ash lost to gary times before the Johto League, Gary never made Ash want to prove him his way of training as much for Paul. I mean, Paul MAKES Ash thinks hard on his choices. I mean, remember Ash first battling one of the ELITE Four from Kanto, and Ash made the quick attack mistake? Well, sorry from spoilers, but in Japan, it shown ash battling Flint, and his infernape. Buizle and ash's soon evolved Infernape lost easily, due to Infernapes power. but Pikachu lasted 3 minutes to infernape, putting up a good fight, but lost eventually. If Paul never existed to Ash, would ash think hard as he does now?

But I agree on this- Paul is a major Jerk. The Jerkiest. But he's strong o.o

I adore Paul. He makes me laugh.
It's my deepest wish for Gary and Paul to have a confrontation.

My only problem with Paul is his character is so one-dimensional that it feels like he barely changed at all through DP. His interactions with most characters is also fairly dull.

He is a great rival though, and the league match should be great.

Makes me wonder how he'll change when Ash beats him. I hope he doesn't get all buddy buddy with him, and retains some of his surly attitude but in a somewhat friendly manner.

I've said that I just see him walking off into the sunset and him never being seen or heard from again.

i highly doubt that. if getting totally annihilated from a BF brain, and the champion of the sinnoh region didn't change his opinion on life, then what makes think that losing to the guy he completely disrespects will?

Then what makes think that losing to the guy he completely disrespects will?

It's Shonen. The main character almost always turns a character around from their "evil" ways. It's cliche as hell, and probably going to happen.

true, i have seen plot device used several times

but you never know, they could surprise us. (or not)

Maybe somewhat. It would show that Paul's METHODS are wrong, not that he got outgunned by super-powerful trainers and Pokemon.

i like paul for the mere fact that he acts the way most of us do, when we play the video games. were always looking for he best stats, iv training and such.

If Ash beats Paul the only thing I can see happening is the evidence Ash's methods work In the long run but Paul's method of training give Immediate Impact. Swords Dance or Choice Band. Nothing more.

Not in the least. I rarely catch more than one of each Pokémon (the only time I can think of that I did that was when a Shinx got Run Away), and I have a lot of difficulty switch up my team late in the game because of how attached I am to the guys that I have.
