Because I have to know for something: How old do you suppose Paul is? If he's just starting out, that would make him 10 however there have been characters who started their journeys late in the past and he seems like he should be Ash's age at LEAST.

He talks and acts like someone in his late teens but he's uhm. Short.

Thoughts on this matter?

As a random aside, I have a sneaking suspicion Paul may be related to Cyrus but that's probably not the case (anyone else ever wonder about this?)

Oh boy, you're going to get bashed for *that* one, especially by anti-Diamondshippers. Although I saw this one in a fanart once.

Although to answer your question, I think Paul's whatever age Ash is.

.

.......I have NO idea what Diamondshipping is. :D

Anyway, I got the theory when I remembered Paul was from Veilstone, home city to the Galactic Energy Company. Him and Cyrus have the same eyes, too, and same "Pokemon are Things to be Used" outlook that Silver has. So maybe Paul is his son though I'd never be so bold to say that with any amount of certainty.

I agree, Blackjack.

It looks that way to me too.

And since Ash is either 15 or 16 (in my opinion), that would make Paul 15/16 as well. That makes sense actually, given the way Paul acts and his attitude towards Ash......

EDIT: Yay! I have 5,000 posts now! ^_^

Agreed. Since Satoshi, in my mind, is 14/15, it makes sense for Shinji to be too. Because NO 10 year old has a voice THAT deep.

And the Akagi+Shinji are related theory is one I dislike, though it makes a bit of sense.

Ash's age in canon is 10. When are people going to get that into their hands?

This theory depends on how far the writers are going to go with the Silver comparison. It has merit but we'll have to wait until we get to Veilstone City to see if the writers hint at it any further.

I don't see why people are acting like Paul can't be 10. If they have no problem accepting that May and Dawn are 10 year olds, why can't we have a guy who seems older but is 10 as well?

Ageless. I mean, it does make the most sense that he'd be 10 since he's from Sinnoh... but at the same time, Harley is from Hoenn (where we first saw him) and there's no way he's 10. So ageless, with 10 being by far the most likely possibility.

10 would throw me for a loop to be sure since he has that whole "You look/act/sound/walk like a little kid" thing going on. And he has sunken raccoon eyes of sorts.

I have no idea how old he is, just throwing that thought out there.

Well, as much as some of you hate it, Pokémon is ageless anime, therefore Ash is still 10 year old. So, if Paul is in Ash's age (which he sure seemed to be) then he is 10 year old too. End of the story.

It isn't REALLY though. Somewhere in the Johto season didn't they say it's been two years since Ash left Palette or did I hallucinate that?

YEah, they did, plus in the Pokemon 3 short, they say that that is Ash and Pikachu's one year anniversary, so Ash is at least eleven.

Also, we know that it is two months until the Pokemon league begins in the gloom episode, which means that pokemon has some concept of time, also that Ash finished his Kanto badge quest a bit earlier than the time allotted by the annual pokemon league.

I believe that once a kid turns ten, they are able to get a pokemon on the next day that starters are given out in certain towns as alloted by the Pokemon league. There is no way that four trainers from the same town all turned 10 on the same day.

Yeah, that was a pointless rant.

Anyways, the anime acknowledges that Ash is at least 11. Now whether or not Ash has found the eternal fountain of youth (he should give a heads up to Jack Sparrow) to keep him this age forever is left to be seen.

Pokémon doesn't seem to be an ageless anime though, seeing as they regularly state "only any-number-of months/years/etc." and that some things happen annualy. These are not just dumb 4kids/PUSA rewrites either, they're stated in Japanese episodes as well. (well, some of the "annual" contests in Hoenn were dumb 4kids errors, but still.)

Jesus, this again. Yes, the anime acknowledges that multiple years have passed. This only proves that the characters are ageless. How?

~Ash was 10 at the beginning of his journey. He says so.
~May was 10 at the beginning of her journey. She also says so.
~As many of you have pointed out, canon states that several years have passed between when Ash started his journey and May started hers.
~And yet, the official website (the Japanese one) says that they are the same age.

The only way that Ash can be 10 years at the beginning of the series, and still 10 years old several years later, is if the anime is ageless.

Sorry, I forgot like half of my post.

I don't think that Shinji is ten, I just . . I don't think it would make sense.

Rosae, I believe it. It's just, while it might be ageless, it's not timeless, which I was getting mixed up. However, maybe, somehow, Pokémon characters have the ability to GO THROUGH PUBERTY EARLY!?!?!

That doesn't mean anything. The Simpsons have celebrated many yearly events (like when we entered 2000), but they're still ageless.

Granted people can argue the kids look older, but sorry, it's bull. Satoshi looking the same age as Hikari makes no sense. He should at least be Takeshi height if anything, but heck--Takeshi still is considered a kid to Team Rocket. I don't know why people even try and argue this, you can say Satoshi has aged years, but phsyically he hasn't done anything. It's called switching animation and animators people.
