So would anyone be disappointed if this match were to happen in the League?

It's just whenever we mention these two, it usually tends to be in the aspect that they're both Ash's rivals. And I generally tend to see people talking about Ash facing both of them come time for the Sinnoh League.

The thing is though, the events throughout all the recent DP episodes have made this a very plausible match up waiting to happen at a big time.

Seeing as Ash has already beaten Jun, he has nothing really to prove against him anymore. He's imparted his own beliefs on how to raise Pokemon, which, to Jun, may be very credible after having lost to Ash. Nonetheless, it's there for Jun to take or leave depending on what he wants, but Ash has still beaten him, and that puts away any doubt or question about their match up.

So what about the idea of using Jun as a measuring stick against Paul to show how strong Paul is before facing Ash, or even using Paul as a means to show that he's improved?

They could even take it a step further by having somehow shown that Jun's learned from Ash's ways, and if he makes the match close, this could act as a trigger of confidence and belief in Ash regarding his own methods of raising Pokemon (considering Paul may have just crushed them). In turn, this could start the questioning on Paul's side, all while some interesting interaction occurs between Jun and his one time idol in Paul.

I don't know, I just think there's a lot of great development that could get done if they have this match up. There are so many ways you can spin it, and it all makes for an amusing plot piece, if you ask me.

They do things like this all the time in other tournament arc anime, and I think it could be pretty cool. Additionally, it kind of seems like the anime has set it up as a pretty good possibility.

Thoughts? Opinions? Sorry if this is rather ill-written, I'm kind of distracted by different things as I type this up. Hopefully it comes across coherent though.

Jun: Hey, I know you. You're that guy who looks jsut like Paul!
Paul: I am Paul!
Jun: I forfeit! I cannot go against my hero!

I really like Trainer's Insomnia's idea. A Satoshi/Jun match in the league wouldn't really be all that exciting since we've seen it before and know Jun wont win. While we also know Jun wont beat Shinji, it would much more exciting since Jun is in love with idolizes Shinji. Maybe that's why the writers have held off on having the two interact?

Everything except for the "I forfeit" is going to happen. I lol'd when I read this.

I shall now expand:

Jun: Hey, I know you, you're guy who looks just like Shinji!
Shinji: I -am- Shinji.
Jun: NADATTENDAIYO? You're not Shinji!
Shinji: But I am Shinji.

-argument of whether Shinji is actually Shinji ensues for several hours-

...Yeah.
I really would prefer Jun vs. Shinji now `-` <3

This would actually be a ridiculously awesome match up. Jun gets crushed by his idol; Satoshi goes on to defeat that idol; Jun can join Satoshi in Jouto BF arc :D Aaaah, what a nice set up!

There's one problem.

Ash and Barry had a 3 on 3, and Ash barely won. Had the battle between Ash and Barry gone to a 6 on 6, Ash may have lost.

Why? Because Barry's Roserade managed to knock out Chimchar and tie with Gliscor, Roserade was a powerful Pokemon.

And if we assume Barry's future Snorlax will be anything like Ash's Snorlax, then really Ash would have an extremely tough time against Barry.

I really do not like 3 on 3. It's great for elimination matches, but to prove someone true strength. No? 3 on 3 is just crap in determining who is stronger.

While it may be predictable and obvious Ash beats Barry in the league if they go up against each other. I would still like Ash to battle Barry.

Because let's really look at it here. I don't want brand new characters in the league for Ash to beat (those could be the 3 on 3). I mean look at Katie, she seemed like someone whose story really needed to be told, because she was strong. But she only served as a stepping stone for Ash to beat. If Ash is going to have 3, 4, or 5, 6 on 6 matches in the league. I'd like to know who these people are.

I missed the point on this. Could you re-explain it please?

Hmm...I wish I could see Barry vs. Paul as well as Barry vs. Ash but that's not going to happen unless they take the Johto route and do something similar like win 2/3 battles or something. And even so, that's 3 vs. 3.

I think it would be interesting. Barry getting insulted and thrashed by Paul would be something to see since Barry idolizes him. At the same time, Ash vs. Barry at a 6 vs. 6 battle would be exciting imo as well.

I always thought Barry and Paul would meet before the league and Barry would see how much of a jerk Paul is and then we have a Barry vs. Paul and Ash vs. Barry at the league but who knows...whatever's more exciting I guess.

If Paul was able to defeat Ash's pokemon while only losing two of them, then he should defeat Barry a lot more quickly.

Would it really matter? He'll have at least 5 or so people to beat to beats the League. Adding Barry as another casualty for Ash wouldn't be all that good. At least with Paul, it'll give him some character development.

I dunno, I really want to see Ash and Jun have a huge 6 on 6 battle.

I can see Jun not battling Ash, but I believe he will. Ash always has 2 major rivals per league and having him battle Jun would be nice.

That being said I'd love to see a regular ep where Jun and Paul battle.

Now that's something I'd love to see. :D I don't know why, but somehow the idea of Barry and Paul battling really appeals to me. Maybe it's just because I want the two to finally meet already to bring out my inner Coldcoffeeshipping fangirl

But yes, a Barry vs. Paul match is a must for me. :3

It would be a great matchup, even better than Ash vs Barry. Think about it, there's nothing that can be accomplished by Ash beating Barry a second time. By not battling him in the league, it leaves more chances for future battles between the two. Just beating him here kills the excitement. Paul battling Barry has a lot of potential for character development (for Barry).

I reckon Paul underestimates Barry and uses a team of reserves with maybe one or two from his "main" team. Barry surprisingly puts up a great fight and almost wins but eventually goes down. This would be a great scenario imo.

Jun does have Staraptor though, I could imagine a Staraptor Vs. Staraptor match in the league.

Also what about Jun's Heracross? Imagine if Ash brings back his Heracross, and they do a Heracross Vs. Heracross battle?
