Well, do you think that Paul will be somethink like Gary is? A sub-main charakter, who will appear in some after-sinnoh episodes? Or do you think he will disappear? Or will he eaven get more involved in the show? Or do you think he'll chance his personality at the end of sinnoh, like silver in G/S?

I hope he appears after Sinnoh and become ashs rival in the next couple of generations, like gary did. Im not sure but i hope it continues to have Paul in the mix!

Depends if Ash beats him in the Sinnoh league or not.

Paul's story seems directly tied to Chimchar's development, once that's over, and if Ash beats him, I can see Paul receiving closure.

The problem with most rivals is they're directly tied to a story, once that story ends, said rivals don't really have much of a purpose anymore.

Since Shinji isn't directly based off of a game character, I think he'll be sticking around for the long haul. I don't see why the rivalry has to end just because Satoshi beats him once. Shinji may soften a bit after the Hikozaru thing is resolved once and for all, but there's no reason the writers can't have Shinji continue to be jerk who treats his Pokemon more like tools than friends.

Shinj is a great character since he's Satoshi's shadow and he has strong pokemon rivals always get my respect....

If I had to guess, I would say he will stay around. However, I see either way possible, and wouldn't be surprised if they retired him.

Paul may as well appear after Sinnoh, which I'm hoping he would appear to challenge Jimmy to make other Jimmy fans to go off and fap about.

Well, I gotta say this: He better. XD

Besides that, I think he'll appear after Shinou a lot if Satoshi doesn't soften him up. If Satoshi does soften him up, Shinji may still appear, but less often.

After the conflict between Ash and Paul gets resolved, would Paul be worth keeping around? That conflict between them is the main draw. If it were gone, would Paul be as interesting then as it his now?

Hey, we could ask the same question about Ash even being in this series. They kept him around, despite his already having won the Orange League and Battle Frontier (and they hinted in regards to the latter that it was probably about as strong as, if not even stronger than, the Elite 4). Since he has already accomplished enough to be considered a Pokemon Master, anyways, winning a game league or not, is it really worth keeping him around?

On topic: If this is a choice, only the future can actually tell.

As long as he doesn't turn up too good. That'll just kill his character.

He could appear like once or twice a region or something just for lulz and nostalgia, but I don't see him with an actual purpose outside of Sinnoh, since I hope they'll resolve his plot by the end of it.

If the story gets dragged on too long, everyone'd be bored of it by the time his backstory and whatnot is revealed.

Yeah, if Ash does beat him, it would probably be best to wrap up his character.

I'd rather see Paul go out after his arc ended rather than to see his character needlessly dragged out to the point where we wonder why he's still on the show.

I guess we'll see.

I disagree that Ash has proven himself to be a Pokémon master. And even if he had, he still hasn't participated in every league yet. Taking a real world examples, when you become a master of a martial art, or chess, or go, or even a trading card game, do you just say "yay I'm a master" and quit? No, you go around competing and practicing to get even better. The same applies to Pokémon. Even when Ash wins a competition (keep in mind he has won only one league), his conflict is not over. However, if Paul and Ash ever make up or have some big resolution, what are they going to do? They have to either retire Paul, or degrade him like Gary.

LMAO. Tyson won the Hoenn league, did that make him a Pokemon Master? No, he went off to sail to a new region.

People win the leagues every year, that does not make them masters. You probably have to go off winning a number of leagues and beat most of the Elite 4 to be considered that.

Honestly, the closest thing we've probably seen to a Pokemon Master is either Lance or Cynthia, and even they still say they have a lot to learn.

That's pretty much what it implies to be a master of anything. There doesn't have to be only one, and it does not mean you are perfect, or able to stop working, or else you would get out of touch and lose your master-like skill. I would probably say Cynthia is a Pokémon master. Lance very possibly as well.

Please explain why Bulbapedia made it seem as though even becoming a Champion doesn't even make you a Pokemon Master in the Anime? Besides, when I or other people see goals, we see them as like... you know, you end it once it's completed, both with Long term AND short term goals.

She would not be a master because she is a champion, she just would happen to be both.

With no intent to sound rude, you are showing zero evidence of understanding the concept of "master." It is a term that applies to the real world as well as Pokémon, and it is not just some trophy or other award. It is a level of ability, not achievement. A master is not perfect, and as part of being a master, must constantly try to get better. If you just stop, you start sucking. Why, perchance, would Ash, after devoting his entire life from the tenth year on to Pokémon, just give up Pokémon after he becomes a master? Why wouldn't he keep training? Especially if he wants to best other masters, or pass his knowledge onto younger/inferior trainers.

Why would you quit something you love just because you're good at it? That's all the reason not to quit.

Well Paul/Shinji just appears to be a great rival, his rather dark character is the Perfect opposite for the carefree, energized and optimistic Ash/Satoshi (kind of reminds me to Naruto) and therefore I believe he will be kept for some more time. At the other hand I don't think he will be much more implemented in the story so I decided to choose the "Gary/Shigeru" option for now if he stays for another gen and this poll would come up again near the end of it I would probably choose he gets more involved in the story.
