Basically, I hate how Paul keeps owning Ash. I mean, Ash's team right now is kinda pathetic, except for Pikachu who's been toned down a bit.

I say, if we assmebled Ash's dream team, you think Paul stands a chance?

Magmortar
Torterra
Electabuzz
Ursaring
Honchkrow
Weaville

vs

Charizard
Snorlax
Squirtle
Sceptile/Bulbasaur (you pick on this one)
Pikachu (hesitant since it's being shown as weak, when it should destroy all of Paul's pokemon due to experience)
*Take your pick, could be Donphan, Tauros, Heracross, etc.)

Just wanted to know who wins?

...

A little more than that please.

Like for instance, who would battle whom etc.

Paul's Torterra might have the advantage over Bulbasaur and Sceptile (though with Sceptile, I doubt it since Sceptile is ridiculously quick and would cause a lot of problems for the slower grass type), but it's not going to beat Charizard.

Magmortar would possibly lose to Squirtle, then again it's a tier 3 so it could win. But it loses to Charizard who is one of the strongest in the series right now and has a lot more battling experience.

Electabuzz would probably defeat Pikachu in the anime. But under normal circumstances, it should be stomped on by Pikachu who holds about the same amount of power and experience as Charizard.

Ursaring and Weaville both lose to Snorlax, who is roughly equal to Charizard and Sceptile.

Honchkrow loses to Pikachu due to type advantage.

squirtle vs honchkrow (squirtle wins)
squirtle vs torterra (torterra wins)
snorlax vs torterra (snorlax wins)
snorlax vs weavile (snorlax wins)
snorlax vs magmortar (magmortar wins)
pikachu vs magmortar (magmortar wins)
sceptile vs magmortar (sceptile wins)
sceptile vs ursaring (ursaring wins)
staraptor vs ursaring (staraptor wins)
staraptor vs electabuzz (electabuzz wins)
charizard vs electabuzz (charizard wins)

ASH WINS!

I have waited for just this topic. Thanks, Slipstream! And kudos on the phrase "Ash's Team of Win". Please forgive me slipping into my eccentric, long winded mode.

So, these two heated rivals get ready for a final apocalyptic throwdown-possibly in the Sinnoh league- both bringing their best Pokemon and fully intent on showing the other that their way is the true path to victory [maybe Ash's lovely "Fight" banner could return?]. But who goes home the winner, and who goes down like a Snorlax in the tour de France?

I would choose Sceptile over Bulbasaur though just barely, and I don't think it makes a big difference in the end, and would actually pick Glalie for slot six-it was a powerhouse in his brief presence. My other choice would be Swellow, though I think Glalie is better for this one. I will cover both Swellow and Bulbasaur, however.

Who fights whom is hard to tell, since Ash doesn't switch as must as he ought to, though he mostly seems to avoid completely ludicrous matchups nowadays so it's unlikely he'd send Pikachu to face Torterra.

With this lineup, I give Ash a win, and a fairly solid one.
With Glalie, he's easily the best choice to take Torterra, and is also good against Honchcrow and tough enough to fight most others. Magmortar would be incredibly risky, however, but I give him good odds against any of the others. He was able to overcome a type weakness to beat Metang in the Hoenn league, showing he's capable of fighting uphill and triumphing.

If it were Swellow, his flying is helpful against Torterra, and bad against Electabuzz [/Captain Obvious]. Ironically, his entirely physical arsenal doesn't impair against Magmortar and Electabuzz as much as most Pokemon since getting burned or paralyzed would trigger Guts, and if Ursaring is any indication, it would change Swellow from "Tank" to "Sweet Arceus it just won't go down". Plus, he's showed impressive resistance to electricity for a Flying type. He's also got great hitting and staying power to the point I affectionate refer to him "Snorlax with wings", though that's obviously an exaggeration. Combined with high speed and agility, and Swellow is quite a powerful little player. If it comes to a Flying fight, Starraptor can beat Honchcrow, and I personally think Swellow atleast on the same level [or above], so I believe he could take it as well. If you want a gutsy fight, I also see his speed letting him eventually take down Ursaring.

Pikachu is either a powerhouse or practically useless. Putting him at a middle road, he can probably handle Honchcrow. I think he did pretty well VS Magmortar til he got burned, so I think he'd stand a chance there with better luck. I'd also give him a decent shot against Weaville. At his best showing [which I call Pikachu Prime], I still see Torterra [immune to his best attacks and a tank] or Electabuzz [Pikachu is consistently poor against this whole species] bringing him down one on one but nobody else; Pikachu Prime does insane stuff like tank being hit into a cliff face and digging a minicave in it, then emerging in stable condition, or one-shotting a Regice. Low performance Pikachu ties with a Pelipper; he'll find a way to lost to whomever he fights in that form.

Charizard is good for pretty much anything most of the time, but could lose to Electabuzz thanks to his Flying type [though its far from guaranteed: Blastoise and Golem, anyone?]. As is, he could shred Torterra or Weavile. I also see him winning a firefight [Pun intended. Sorry] with Magmortar. Honestly, I don't see any of Paul's Pokemon handing him a win one on one unless something goes horribly wrong for Ash.

Sceptile's resistance makes him pretty good for Electabuzz, but his favorite move is Leaf Blade, which could prove troublesome. He'd have a slight advantage against Torterra thanks to its ground element, and is of course also very fast and quite powerful. His close emphasis and weakness to fire puts him at a disadvantage if he faces Magmortar. Honchcrow also has an advantage, though considering he beat an Altaria, and a Scizor, it doesn't guarantee anything.

Bulbasaur, as opposed to Sceptile, has abit more ranged ability, but he's not quite as agile or powerful, but still quite quick and strong, and has used Vine Whip creatively once or twice. Compared to Sceptile, I think he'd fare better against Electabuzz [less contact to potentially get stunned]. Plus, I think he's used Sleep powder before, which can be VERY effective. He also has Leech Seed, which has proved quite good in the show at times. His most recent battles VS Brandon show he's still got a good deal of endurance and power, so I see him doing fine against most anything. I wouldn't be too fond of his odds against Magmortar, however. Against Honchcrow, his ranged abilites could prove quite helpful.

Snorlax? I don't think he's EVER lost a one on one. Heck, going down after only ONE win against Claire is his single worst fight. I don't see him starting to go down like a wuss now. Like Charizard I see him beating any of Paul's [also, didn't he used Ice Punch before? That would help cover Torterra and Honchcrow]. That thing is a complete monster with incredibly hitting power and insane durability, plus Rest. He's also far more agile then you'd expect, though not quite "fast" by any means. As you said, he's probably on the same general level as Sceptile and Charizard. I would personally like to see him teach Ursaring what a real juggernaut is, and that seems as likely a fight as any. He'd also work on Torterra; get close and Ice Punch into submission.

Squirtle has some great moves [Hydro Pump] and a very solid combat record. He's the weakest one here, IMO [unless Pikachu is in one of his weak modes], but he can probably handle Magmortar atleast make the others know they were in a fight. Obviously Electabuzz and Tortetta would be very bad choices to face.

Paul, of course, won't just let Ash pick on his type weakness'; however, Ash's team here is so powerful they don't need one to get wins. Assuming everyone is at reasonably good form, I see Ash claiming a solid victory.

If everyone is at their very utter tip top best, I see him crushing Paul into the dust, at which point Paul might just cry like a small child. Paul's a very good trainer and has tough Pokemon, but most of these guys are super powerful. Were Ash vindictive and cruel [I.E Like me] he would deliver an agonizing and crushing speech at this point.

Of course, Ash could still lose if some or all of his Pokemon are playing at very low levels, something almost all of them have done atleast once [only Snorlax and Swellow haven't, as far as I can remember].

This is, of course, all 100% pure opinion. Yours may vary and I'm sure many others have different opinions on the best choices, who could face whom etc. :)

Pikachu (hesitant since it's being shown as weak, when it should destroy all of Paul's pokemon due to experience)

i absolutly hate when people do this and say somehting like " Pikachu should kill everything cause it is so experienced"

it is true that with more experience a pokemon gets better in battle but at some point depending on the pokemon type experience has to platue. You cant have a little pikachu with powers of a Ho OH or somthing just cause it was trained for a million years,

also experience doesnt directly translate into pure skill or power...

ok and about the subject.. ash's best team in my mind is
squirtle
sceptile
charizard
snorlax
pikachu
staraptor, swellow, and donphan all tie here for me

and i think this team would kill paul's but the fact that ash will not trade out his pokemon durring the league cause he will want to use his sinnoh pokemon in the sinnoh league just like n hoenn.... The writers dont want to make the mistake like they did in the johto league by taking the credit away from that leagues pokemon

First of all, I'd definitely take Bulbasaur vs Sceptile. And I really don't see how he's the only one in contention when Buizel's shown to be a very strong water type.

Anyway...

Ash's Kanto 4 + Snorlax and another would absolutely destroy Paul.

But to keep it fair, since we only know half of Paul's team are vets, then I'd put in only half of Ash's, saaaaay:

Pikachu
Bulbasaur
Donphan
as the Vets, with
Monferno
Buizel
Staraptor
from Sinnoh

Charizard and Squirtle would be a gimme, but Monferno and Buizel are two of Ash's stronger Sinnoh Pokemon, while I don't see Grotle being anywhere near Bulbasaur's level. Pikachu I'm slightly hesitant about, but it's Pikachu, and I'm sure it could come through. Staraptor's fully evolved, and powerful, so I see no problem keeping it. And the Donphan slot is interchangable.

Charizard
(Snorlax/glalie/muk/swellow)
Sceptile
Pikachu
Donphan
corphish/kingler (Snorlax/glalie/muk/swellow)

he should use these pokémon, and snorlax might be risky because it sleeps all the time and thus can be replaced. Squirtle and bulbasaur are pretty weak, so he shouldn't use them. There is about an even chance if Paul or Ash would win, but the writers would let Ash win of course

i'd like to see a surprise pokemon brought in on ashes part, like in the elite four.

perhaps muk to take down torterra, or kingler for magmortar?

and come on guys, isnt it obvious it's going to finish with a pikachu/electabuzz final match

and a charizard torterra match would be epic :)

Pikachu
Charizard
Sceptile
Snorlax
Swellow

These 5, ppl, should ALWAYS be in his best team.

I mean, Pikachu is teh starter, Charizard and Sceptile... no comments since they're so obvious, Snorlax has in almost every battle it has been in KO'd 2 pokemon in a row (Greta, vs Harrison, vs Gary...etc). The exact same thing goes for Swellow; it killed off 2 of Katie's Pokemon and 2 of Tyson's Pokemon before going down itself. It's a true powerhouse, much more powerful than Staraptor. Excluding any of these from his best 5 is a mistake and a waste of potential.

As for the sixth spot, I deem it as a tie between Squirtle, Bulba, Monferno, Donphan, Heracross etc. Whatever is best for the situation, really.

screw that, what i wana see is all of the legendaries ash has ever helped in his team

so he'd have a team of

mewtwo
lugia
dioxys
latias
jirachi
giratina

i'd like to see paul take on that ;)

Even if Ash uses his current team I think he would win if he evolves Monferno and Buizel.

Pikachu.
Floatzel.
Infernape.
Staraptor (I know Swellow is Ash's strongest flying pokemon but Staraptor has more usefull moves)

Grotle and Gliscor are weak but Ash can make them strong if he uses some smart strategies.

No no no no no. The issue is this.

Pikachu took down pokemon such as Regice and only TIES with an eleckid? This same pokemon took down a Onix and even takes down ground pokemon, and only TIES with an eleckid? Obviously something's wrong here.

Magmortar
Torterra
Electabuzz
Ursaring
Honchkrow
Weaville

/QUOTE]
and paul has more pokes that just his

i think paul stands a chance, i think the real question is can ash beat paul with his sinnoh team....
Doubtful. Paul's Sinnoh team is stronger overall, even if all of ash's pokemon evolve. If Ash used his Kanto team, yeah... scary.

And to Trainer'sInsomnia,
The whole point is to NOT keep it fair as you put it. In fact, this is actually fair since none of these pokemon are banned from fighting. Paul still has NOTHING on Charizard, who could potentially solo the whole team however doubtful it may be. (Any of these he could take one on one though.)

But yeah, Paul want's to talk shit? He'd better back it up. He call's Ash weak. But I bet that Paul has NO idea of Ash's other pokemon, especially Charizard, Sceptile, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Snorlax.

Let's not forget, Ash has done something that Paul hasn't, and that is beating Brandon in the Battle Frontier.

>But I bet that Paul has NO idea of Ash's other pokemon, especially Charizard, Sceptile, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Snorlax.

And I bet you couldn't be more wrong. Paul probably studies records of as many league matches as possible to learn his opponent's styles and develop new strategies.

If he did, then he wouldn't have called Ash weak now would he? I mean, even if Paul is a bastard, which he is, he still has to admit that a Charizard beating a Blastoise is impressive.

Paul probably decided that was just a random stroke of luck based on the fact it lost to a Blaziken despite a type advanatage, and forfit against a Charmander due to its trainer's incompetance.

I think the only reason Ash lost to Blaziken, besides the fact that he didn't know anything about it, was that Charizard was probably tired after defeating most of Gary's Pokemon.

And look at how badly Blaziken was after that, he lost the first match afterwards he was that bad off. I think if there were a rematch, Charizard would flatten Blaziken no problem.
